37:46 Yes. Conjure Animals (PHB pg. 225) is a 3rd level Conjuration spell. It allows you to summon eight beasts of challenge rating 1/4 or lower (or less beasts of higher CR). Thanks for this reaction :) . You probably realised by now, but every character was a prominent youtuber cameoing. If you want another Jocat video, his 'Girls' video is short and sweet. Overwise, DoorMonster.
Side note: if you're really looking into trying out your first experience as a DM, I recommend throwing some creative situations at your players by creating weird and usual characters. Here's an example that's free to use: the party has been tasked to investigate a small village has recently become tortured by locals hearing voices in their heads with the grand reveal being that it's a Ghostwise Halfling with a few levels in Sorcerer using _invisibility_ to remain unseen. It's great because _see invisibility_ is an instant solution that more often than not goes unused.
A simple go-to if you're stuck for an "event" is a slave caravan coming through the area, selling off highly unusual "creatures" which are blatantly sapient but don't know the local language. A good or neutral party may try to free the slaves or ruin the caravan. A neutral or evil party may want to buy one, or even help the caravan owner. Either way, with a large amount (or just one bought one) of NPCs with communication difficulties and an unknown origin point, returning them to their home (for good, or to aid the slavers in getting more wares) sets out a simple adventure path, made as complicated as required by the DM. If they, for some Player reason, IGNORE the slavers, have the slaves be secret cultists or spies being smuggled in to cause a disaster, on the PRETENSE of slave trade.
If you're going to do the Monster Hunter vids from JoCat, you need to go off of the "official" playlist he made himself, because they need to be seen in the correct order. XP to Level 3 has a pretty entertaining series on the possible D&D classes (the Cleric is my favorite) which are pretty fun.
@@jonathanguajardo8430 I think their channel has a few too many videos to say that. A reaction channel could probably keep itself going with daily uploads for a year just with their animations.

As a first time dm, I don’t do nearly as much planning as others do. I just joy bullet points of what they’ll expect and maybe a few contingencies. Kinda helps that I’ve constructed the campaign in a way where they’re always on the move and time is of the essence
Spongebob didn't do a fantasy episode. That image is from the episode Mid-Life Crustacean. Specifically, the montage in which Spongebob repeatedly asks "Are you feeling it now, Mr. Krabs?" For that particular moment, he asks, "Art thou feeling now, Mr. Krabs?" Also Blaine Simple is a vampire, so he'll quickly regen any damage he takes from eating his knife.
Well, there actually WAS a fantasy-themed episode, the title was even a homage to RPGs (It was titled 'Dunces and Dragons'), in the episode Spongebob and Patrick go to a jousting tournament where they get knocked so far into the air they somehow end up in a fantasy AU.
I know this video has been out for a long time now, but I hope you see this. JoCat has an ongoing campaign called "Heart of Elynthi" and it is fantastic! Watch it in your own time, it is my personal favourite D&D series. I highly recommend it.
I've got notifications for it, and it's popped up in my feed, but I didn't know where to start since everything coming out now is far from the beginning.
@@Airier He has a playlist on his channel, which also includes the newest uploads which are unlisted. Just start right at the first video in that playlist and watch until you're caught up. I promise you you'll have a lot of good laughs with their shenanigans.
ok you asked about summoning 32 snakes. Here is what I found. (note this doesn't involve dice rolling, but it is what i found.) On page 225 of the players handbook is the druid, and maybe other class i didn't look, spell conjure animals. It allows you to summon 8 feys in the form of animals as long as the animal is 1/4 challenge rating. The challenge rating of a contrictor snake on page 305 of the same book is 1/4 challenge rating. (you can get 1 challenge rating 2, 2 challenge rating 1 or four challege rating 1/2 if you prefer but this is purely for numbers) As this is a level 3 spell it has the common trait of being able to get stronger if you use stronger spells, or as you might call them mage bullets. If you use a level 5 spell slot you get twice as many creatures. three times as many if it's level 7 or four times if it is level 9. Because of this if you use conjure animals with a level 9 spell slot it is entirely possible to summon 32 snakes in a single turn. There is also conjure minor elements that lets you do the same thing except with elementals, but it caps out at triple the amount for higher levels due it it being level 4 and the stronger ones using level 6 and 8 respectively. In addition to that there is conjure woodland beings which works the same as the minor elementals one except with feys instead of elements. All of them at their base spell use has the same amount of summons vs challenge rating. While not exactly what was shown in the video, as there is no dice rolling involved, it likely is what was used as it was 32 exactly which is the most amount of the weakest type you can summon.
Oh yes! I want you to look at animated spellbook. Awesome animations with some nice sense of humor and you learn about some of the mechanics and spells in DnD!
We see dice and our rational brain goes 'We don't need more dice!' Of course our goblin brain goes 'Ooh but the shiny rocks make wonderful clickity clack noises!' as we pocket MORE dice.
Jocat's numerous little elaborate bits + Airier's insatiable curiosity is what turns what would've been a roughly 25 minute reaction into an almost 50 minute reaction. Side note, the fact Airier has this natural behavior of over-curiousness means they would make a great Tabaxi ;)
I'm proud to say that I have DMed a game. It's given me insight into just how much work goes into DMing, and I respect people all the more for doing it.
41:05 I love how the "You can Certainly try" comment goes completely over Airier's head because he's never seen Critical Role. Very much highly recommend ......campaign 2, since they kinda start campaign one after already playing it for a year and then getting the idea "Hey's let's play stream this madness!"
You should definitely react to the Gobboventures. There are only two short vids, so far, but still. You could include them with the redacted versions of some of the D&D classes (I believe that it's just the Cleric and Warlock - the redacted originals should be linked in the descriptions). Also the Crap Guide to Monster Hunter videos since they were what really got JoCat popular in the first place.
To your question with the 32 snakes: yes. It is possible. There is a spell called Conjure Animals, 3rd level druid (and possibly ranger) spell, That allows you to summon a certain amount of beasts based on their challenge rating and the level you cast it. Example: with the basic spell you are able to summon 8 animals with CR1/4 // 4 animals CR 1/2 // 2 animals CR 1 // 1 animal CR 2. When you use a 5th, 7th or 9th spellslot to cast this spell, the amount of animals are doubled/tripled/quadripled. And that can be extremely broken. A little story: our party once investigated a cave full of spiders. After cleaning it out and destroying the spiders nest, the spider queen showed up. After rolling initiative, my druid decided to cast Conjure Animals and summoned 8 wolves, surrounding the spider queen. Because, Pack tactics. And when the wolves got their turn, they ripped the boss apart. The encounter was designed as a miniboss by our DM, AC 19, 90 HP and lair actions. And the encounter was over after 2 rounds. Back to the video, a giant constrictor snake has a CR of 2, according to DND beyond. So it shouldn't have been possible for that guy to do it, unless he has some sort of item that allows him to do it. If they would have been regular Constrictor Snakes, 32 of them would actually be legit because their CR is 1/4.
I've been waiting for this to give one recommendation: Cami-Cat "Life of a Bard." It's an animated full song adaptation based off the fragment of her "firbolg bard hits on Evilus Maximus" scene. She's actually done several original songs inspired by D&D as well as numerous covers and other originals, but this is a good one to go with here because it ties directly to this.
he introduced me to the "i cast fireball" memes (though if he hadn't i would have invented them myself with how my players were behaving). now that i'm a player not a dm i basically cast nothing but thunderbolt.
What the hell Airier!? Lord of the Rings was NOT an standard fetch quest! I was a delivery quest, with escort elements thrown in, thank you very much :D
22:56 to anyone curious the unexpectable‘s Is an actual RPG group performing a campaign on TH-cam. And they’ve got an Interesting assortment of people as the cast Takahata101 (yes the guy who does the voice of Cell in DBZA) playing an orc barbarian named Borcey. The Birdman is the Kenku Rogue name Greckles voiced Buy gaijin-gumba Takahata’s sister is the 3 eyed girl Who likes Goliaths and is actually the DM of their game. They had a guest character for a while, The surfer dude Triton that’s actually played by Jocat and a character that seems to have now become a staple of the campaign that’s actually played by the guy who voices Alastair from hazbin hotel
23:28 I admit I do this. But I do it tactfully. Half a page: the brief, what’s important for session 1. Three pages: more detail, offer plot books based on your full backstory. 15+: the backstory, the family, the extended family, the neighbors, the town, the main crops, the trade system, myths and local legends (I still haven’t met a DM who will let me have a pet Tarrasque due to the origins of the French town of Tarrascon), my rival/enemy… My latest character is a fairy. And you bet that I fully described the Feywild, the Fey crossing, how we kept outsiders out, why I left, the fact that my town is in a windy gorge with great updrafts… Oh, and no spoilers, but the DM and I looked up Feywild creatures with their details, and created an epic combat we could run. 28:45 That… is not me. I can catch the DM’s plotlines ahead of time every time (so far). But I have _never_ directly Metagamed it. The closest is asking the party what they think, or suggest mind reading the ebony-haired captive Princess deeper than basic telepathy, or similar things that get ignored until the party of 5 level 13 players has 2 downed members, a third in the single digits, and 50 HP split between the healthiest 2.
You saw that Gnome in the Crap Guide to D&D: Wizard. And they're a character of the Animated Spellbook series, which I'm also excited about that you're considering watching them. It honestly is a great series to watch especially if you play D&D as it clears up a lot of things and gives some good insight into how certain spells work. But yeah, you've seen him before, you may see more of him, guess we'll see ^-^
For the watch at 22:50. I do believe the 12 position is DnD, the 3 is Monster Hunter (it's the sword and shield icon), 6 is likely Skyrim and 9 is for Final Fantasy 14. He's recently gotten into that.
Yes there is a way to get them with summoning spells Edit; but it differs with class for wizard I think it is a 3red tier spell but a 9th it is possible to get that meny snakes
13:04 min That's accurate. Last Session, my Players startet identifying what the magic items were they just found, one of which was a small leather bag containing a fine powder. Now imagine my face, when the kobold warlock sticked his Finger in the bag and then licked his Finger in an attempt to identify it, so now I had to come up with how to handle someone consuming _dust of dryness_ on the spot. I mean, there is an example in its description, but that is for how it'd affect an _water elemental,_ not a normal creature. My solution was: the CON-Save in the description and only 5d8 (or whatever it was) necrotic damage instead of 10d8. It was still enough to pull all the moisture out of him, sending him right into death saves.
"oh, it says Pog" no, the sheet's upside down to face the character and says God :') B+ for effort though. Always enjoy your commentaries and the JoCat series has been a really fun revisit! Thanks for doing this!

If you think about watching Critical Role: they are making "Crit Recap Animated", which is basically an Abridged version of the season 2 of the show. It's only 3 of them for episodes 1-16 and they less than 12 minutes combined, so you can even make a reaction to them. Of course, it's nothing close enough to the show itself, but on the other hand: 133 episodes around 4 hours long each and still coming out weekly, so...
43:05 ; OH COME ON!!!... You end the video during the best part!?!? I love hearing the ending music! It's awesome! As well as reading the names of all the participants in the video.

By the way, at least the first two groups, The Unexpectables and D6: Dawn Rite, are campaigns Jocat has played in, and you can find all their sessions on at least TH-cam. Also, the Unexpectables (which are archived on Takahata101's channel) do that annual Orctober 40K miniseries "Da Krew" that I've recommended to you several times already :)
yep with a ninth level spell slot you could summon 32 constrictor snakes using conjure animals you can conjure 8 beasts of cr1/4 or lower, a constrictor snake is a cr1/4 beast and upcast to ninth level you multiply the initial amount of beasts by 4 8x4 =32
Also yes, you can summon 32 snakes. Conjure Animals lets you summon anywhere from one CR-2 beast to eight CR-1/4 beasts, and at higher levels, it multiplies the amount.
People who can read DM intent, my regular Saturday has 3 of those. Two of us take turns doing every few months. The third is a newish player who just somehow manages to put two and two together and gets fish and its somehow the right answer
Preparing for players doesn't require a Byzantine weave of If-Then contingencies. All you need is a sandbox full of important characters, knowledge of their mannerisms and motives, and a vague idea of the mannerisms and motives of the generic NPCs in the area. If you can manage that, it doesn't matter if the players want to use the ice cream machine they stole from Runza to fight vampire hunters, you'll be prepared to give them an enjoyable gameplay experience that resolves the conflict you presented them with.

Can't wait for him to react to all the crossovers that Airier has no idea who they are :D
There's crossovers?
@@Airier In this episode, all the people who you did not recognize.
like red and blue from osp, I suggest you react to their skits first
@@jonathanguajardo8430 I think their channel has a few too many videos to say that. A reaction channel could probably keep itself going with daily uploads for a year just with their animations.
@@jonathanguajardo8430 honestly i feel like the skits,if you mean the Di Vine type stuff, is better with the context of having watched the vids on those gods and figures. IMO
Krabs?"
Also Blaine Simple is a vampire, so he'll quickly regen any damage he takes from eating his knife.
Well, there actually WAS a fantasy-themed episode, the title was even a homage to RPGs (It was titled 'Dunces and Dragons'), in the episode Spongebob and Patrick go to a jousting tournament where they get knocked so far into the air they somehow end up in a fantasy AU.
If you saw the credits it’ll show each and every voice actor that took part of the scene with their characters they use for D&D or themselves
(note this doesn't involve dice rolling, but it is what i found.)
On page 225 of the players handbook is the druid, and maybe other class i didn't look, spell conjure animals. It allows you to summon 8 feys in the form of animals as long as the animal is 1/4 challenge rating. The challenge rating of a contrictor snake on page 305 of the same book is 1/4 challenge rating. (you can get 1 challenge rating 2, 2 challenge rating 1 or four challege rating 1/2 if you prefer but this is purely for numbers)
As this is a level 3 spell it has the common trait of being able to get stronger if you use stronger spells, or as you might call them mage bullets.
I can recommend the animated spellbook series by Zee Bradshaw
I would highly recommend watching Overly Sarcastic Productions Journey to the West series, it isn't done yet but I still rewatch it constantly.
He turned into Obi-Wan at 14:43 for "Oh my" and I just about died.
"Well hello there."
😁👍
The Sorcerer T Posing is something I never notiiced XD
Also, he loves the Oxford Comma too XD
Oh yes! I want you to look at animated spellbook. Awesome animations with some nice sense of humor and you learn about some of the mechanics and spells in DnD!
yes animated spellbooks I started that recently it's actually pretty funny
We see dice and our rational brain goes 'We don't need more dice!'
Of course our goblin brain goes 'Ooh but the shiny rocks make wonderful clickity clack noises!' as we pocket MORE dice.
34:25 That's CamiCat (no relatión to JoCat) and she made an entire song out of this, please react to it!!!
Oh right! Overly Sarcastic Productions is always a fun channel.
The crowned crab that casts polymorph is CritCrab, who has a TH-cam channel...he relates stories of D&D sessions gone wrong from reddit.
Red and blue from overly sarcastic productions being there just made my smile so much bigger
Airier: I might get back into magic the Gathering.
Puffin forest: Hold my dice.
"I wont forget it forever" him
"Its the bee movie script" me
I'm uncomfortable with how accurate this D&D obsession journey is to mine
except i have never played (yet)
27:40 That’s Red from Overly Sarcastic Productions, and she’s a huge Reboot fan. I think you’d like her videos
The one who actually started singing is Cami-Cat and you will love her videos.
To your question with the 32 snakes: yes. It is possible. There is a spell called Conjure Animals, 3rd level druid (and possibly ranger) spell,
That allows you to summon a certain amount of beasts based on their challenge rating and the level you cast it.
The encounter was designed as a miniboss by our DM,
AC 19, 90 HP and lair actions.
I hope he does a reaction to Cami Cat's Life of a Bard.
The first group in the demonstration were the unexpectables. A long going d&d series featuring Takahata101 from team four star.
Please tell me someone does the Perfect Cell voice! Please, please, please!
Do a reaction to xp to level 3 videos. He's hilarious
he introduced me to the "i cast fireball" memes (though if he hadn't i would have invented them myself with how my players were behaving). now that i'm a player not a dm i basically cast nothing but thunderbolt.
and remind me to never give a player a "staff of +12 to anything fire related"
What the hell Airier!? Lord of the Rings was NOT an standard fetch quest! I was a delivery quest, with escort elements thrown in, thank you very much :D
No, you're right. I'll concede this one. 😁
@@Airier Also, I've offered to GM for you before, but it sounds like you managed to get into a group already?
Yeah. A couple long running games started up in my discord server. I'm in one and lurk the others. 😁
22:56 to anyone curious the unexpectable‘s
Is an actual RPG group performing a campaign on TH-cam. And they’ve got an Interesting assortment of people as the cast
Takahata101 (yes the guy who does the voice of Cell in DBZA) playing an orc barbarian named Borcey.
The Birdman is the Kenku Rogue name Greckles voiced Buy gaijin-gumba
Takahata’s sister is the 3 eyed girl Who likes Goliaths and is actually the DM of their game.
They had a guest character for a while, The surfer dude Triton that’s actually played by Jocat and a character that seems to have now become a staple of the campaign that’s actually played by the guy who voices Alastair from hazbin hotel
If I were to DM, it'd be me and my big bad Google doc of homebrewed monsters and bosses
"if he did magic the gathering i'd get back into that so hard"
{everyone who is subbed to jocat} he does
Rip my wallet. 😅
23:28 I admit I do this. But I do it tactfully.
Half a page: the brief, what’s important for session 1.
Three pages: more detail, offer plot books based on your full backstory.
15+: the backstory, the family, the extended family, the neighbors, the town, the main crops, the trade system, myths and local legends (I still haven’t met a DM who will let me have a pet Tarrasque due to the origins of the French town of Tarrascon), my rival/enemy…
My latest character is a fairy.
For who want to know, the large wall of text the DM was spewing was the Bee Movie script.
Yes, Yakkity Sax (AKA "The Benny Hill Theme) is the perfect chase scene music. It makes any chase scene funny!
animated spell book great stuff
i kinda want him to react to Cami-Cats "Life of a bard" song now
“If he did a Magic: the Gathering video...”
Too late! He did! You’re welcome! Lol
But yeah, you've seen him before, you may see more of him, guess we'll see ^-^
the guy who dropped the novel on the table was Gaijin Goombah who plays Greckles the Kenku Rogue
For the watch at 22:50. I do believe the 12 position is DnD, the 3 is Monster Hunter (it's the sword and shield icon), 6 is likely Skyrim and 9 is for Final Fantasy 14. He's recently gotten into that.
the giant text box is the bee movie script
Yes there is a way to get them with summoning spells
Edit; but it differs with class for wizard I think it is a 3red tier spell but a 9th it is possible to get that meny snakes
13:04 min
That's accurate.
"oh, it says Pog"
no, the sheet's upside down to face the character and says God :')
B+ for effort though. Always enjoy your commentaries and the JoCat series has been a really fun revisit! Thanks for doing this!
Anyone else only recognize one or 2 people at first and now know half of them on rewatch?
as someone who just started DMing my first campaign....i feel this so hard
6:50
If a Wizard researched the Mind Flayer's singature "Mind Blast" ability, and turned it into a spell with a verbal component,
this would totally be how it looks like.
The full song that Cami-cat did from de segment from this video, it is called "The life of the bard" and it is awesome, you should check it out, just for you to enjoy :3
11:41
Ooooh I just got the joke. He is literally rolling dice
Some ideas:
Zee Bashew, Animated Spellbook as well as the cold road
deerstalker pictures , 1 for All D&D Comedy Web-Series
Adan, D&D Story Road to Godhood as well as a lot of shorts
Reba Derps, D&D Story
Watch Life of a Bard by Cami-Cat, it’s the full version of the song her character sings at 34:26
"Good thing he doesn't do more expensive videos"
Me sitting in my room after ordering multiple Gobbo plushies looking nervous...
This is the most accurate depiction of a dnd session I've ever seen
i love how at 42.07 the microphone blends with the background of the scene
43:05 ; OH COME ON!!!... You end the video during the best part!?!?
I love hearing the ending music! It's awesome! As well as reading the names of all the participants in the video.
Being a good DM is 35% prep and 65% willingness to throw it all out and bullshit the rest. A great DM has all that and more
every one here, as you probably figured it out, is actually either a d&d character or a personality in the youtube d&d sphere
when i initially watched i named off all the entire cast, mostly without looking at the description:
unexpectables: takahata (borky the orc barbarian), distortiondevil (panic the tiefling bard), gaijin goomba (greckles the kenku rogue), czbacklash/chris zito (task the kobold ranger), montyglu (dm), octopimp (zenrio the triton sorcerer, though he was a guest)
dawnrite: i like know most of them but cant remember names off the top of my head, but; yaroshien (dm w/ a tv head), brachyzoid (river the halfling fighter), boo radley (dragonborn w/ gun), caitlin337 (the poisoner), chriz zito again (oppossum wizard), dont know the druid, he doesnt talk but also sir malervick (human knight)
dingo doodles (sips the monkey sorcerer)
felix (dingo's brother & previous dm of the series dingo animates)
zee bashew (gnome wizard)
puffin forest (absurd, the everything human)
blue & red of overly sarcastic productions
davvy chappy (counterspelling bard)
xp to level 3
idk who the multiclass guy was
runesmith (guy with a bunch of companions, made stibbles!)
jessjackdraw (beholder)
kanekuo (bird)

idk the anime girl
blaine simple (the stabber)
idk the dice clutch
idk music guy
cami cat (firbolg irl bard)
idk introspective guy
idk book guy
artjack (crow)
matt mercer (matt mercer)
and of course JoCat (seen as jocat, also jocrap)
XP to level 3 has a lot of skits and a series explaining classes, so you could react to those
DM: Screams Bee Movie Script
Everyone else: takes notes
Look Airier, so many new people to watch XD
Jocat on the shelf really is adorable, isn't it?
Also makes one question how the CrapGuide universe works XD
My favorite cameo in that video is still red and blue because I really didn't see it coming but there scene was hilarious
Same
Funny how you mentioned you wanted to see him do magic the gathering, because he actually has a quick video on that that was sponsored by wizards of the coast. XD
27:32 Red is a huge ReBoot fan.
This is BY FAR his best video. JoCat is just great.
Zee Bashew's animated spellbook is a good call. That gnome wizard you recognised (who is also in the Wizard Crap Guide) is his character.
People who can read DM intent, my regular Saturday has 3 of those. Two of us take turns doing every few months. The third is a newish player who just somehow manages to put two and two together and gets fish and its somehow the right answer
"What do you want to see next?"
...
Bro...
CRITICAL. ROLE.
He makes it look so difficult and complicated, but I still wish it was as easy as he makes it look
What's funny is that The Unexpectables actually talked abou their cameo here on their podcast, which is how I found it.
Extra funny: JoCat guess starred in their first campaign!
Anyways, there are a few people who cameoed in this video I'd recommend taking a look at for future reacts. Red and Blue of Overly Sarcastic Productions: A channel that got popular on summarizing history, mythology, and classic literature in entertaining ways. As well as having discussions on Tropes. Kanekou, a DnDtuber who does some really good homebrew, art, and storytelling.
Oh you want a pet tarrasqu? Wizard 17 buddy.
Simulacrum magic jar into a true Polymorphed tarrasqu. You now have a tarraqu
