Lake Travis stands among the largest reservoirs in central Texas on the Colorado River. This lake is known to be the clearest lake in Texas, having limestone in its bottom that makes unique crystals clear blue waters. But did you know that it is the most visited recreational destination in Texas as it receives thousands of visitors every week during summer?
Today, we will discuss Lake Travis and its interesting facts. Also, we will tell you about things that you must know before you go there. Be sure to stick around until the end to find out what exciting things you can do in Lake Travis.
Lake Travis is covered with rolling hills and greenbelts, having the purest environment where you can enjoy numerous recreational water activities. You can visit it anytime as it always remains open unless there is any severe drought or flooding. You will love spending time near the lakewater in hot summers because the temperature here remains between 80° to 86°. It is as warm as the Atlantic ocean on Miami Beach in August. It makes it one of the best refreshing lakes in the State to enjoy hot summers. With that said, let's give you a short overview of Lake Travis.
Lake Travis is located almost 13 miles northwest of Austin in Travis County. Among the Highland Lakes, it has the largest storage capacity, covering 18,929 acres of land. It is 63 miles long, 4.5 miles wide, and 210 feet deep. However, depth varies here as the water height changes nearly every 100 feet. Its 270 miles of shoreline provide enough room for water enthusiasts to enjoy multiple water sports and scenic views. The shoreline has many restaurants offering delicious food and waterparks. When you get tired from outdoor activities, restaurants provide a romantic meal while enjoying live music.
The lake has hundreds of fascinating spots, among which Mansfield Dam Park serves the most, having a boat ramp and four diving platforms. There is a special trail from where divers can see sunken boats, geological formations, and numerous historical dam construction parts that have been there since 1937. You can’t leave this park without enjoying a barbeque from the picnic area.
Pace Bend Park is another famous destination that tourists love visiting. It covers over 1000 acres of area and has intriguing limestone cliffs, biking, walking trails, and camping facilities. You can also take part in water fun activities.
If you want to enjoy the fantastic view of the lake with the killing sunset, pay a visit to Oasis. Sunshine reflecting from the translucent water increases the lake's charm. This restaurant is located on a 450 feet cliff, covers 30,000 square feet, and has 2,500 indoor and outdoor seating capacity. It is the largest outdoor restaurant in Texas with an extended terrace to enjoy the beautiful sunset. Don't forget to be there at dusk and bring your camera to capture those marvelous scenes. Additionally, there are prolific Live Music Venues with two-stage music that host shows every weekend summer night.
Then comes the Waterloo Adventures Waterpark located on the eastern shore of the lake. This park has a 600 feet water playground with over 20 obstacles. Your adventure will begin with a boat ride to this island. Also, there is a free fall side, a springboard jumping tower, and a trampoline. The inclusive amenities of this park include beach games, resort-style chaise loungers, floating picnic tables, and food with different beverages.
If you want to enjoy the view from height, Zipline Adventures is the best spot in Lake Travis. It is located on the northern shore and has a zip line ranging from 250 feet to 2,800 feet. Zipline adventures have the longest and fastest zip line in Texas.
Those who want to relax can go to Volente Beach Resort. It is a restaurant, a waterpark, as well as a lodge. If you are visiting with your kids, this place is the best, as you can rest while your kids can play in a pirate-themed play area. There are specific pools in the park for kids and adults. The restaurant here hosts live music every weekend and Lake Travis’s best Independence Day Fireworks show.
If you want to keep your family highly entertained be sure to check out the Lakeway Resort and Spa. Its welcoming staff, swimming pools, kids slides, playrooms, and the on-site restaurant with a variety of dishes offer relaxation and tranquility. This place in Lake Travis is no less than paradise.

What are some of the Adventures you have had at Lake Travis?
Lake Travis is really one of the most beautiful lake I’ve seen ! If I have the money I don’t mind buying myself the perfect lake location in acreages so my kids can build their home next to mine one day if they wants to or I just turn into my tropical paradise
Wow! Talk about MISREPRESENTATION! So many of the video scenes were NOT of the Lake Travis area! The SCUBA shots were mostly in the ocean, on coral reefs. And another SCUBA clip was in a fresh water SPRING -- not in Lake Travis. At least one of the golf course shots showed a snow covered MOUNTAIN in the distance. Nothing of the sort exists in central Texas. There are many good features about Lake Travis, so why did the video pull in segments from other parts of the world, making it seem like Lake Travis has more than it really does.
I totally agree, this is not a good representation of Lake Travis. Check out what he says from 1:04 to 1:12. Summer temperatures between 80-86 degrees???? LMAO! I live within 10 minutes of Lake Travis and this summer (2022) we had 30+ consecutive days over 100 degrees (averaging 104 degrees in summer). He mentions Hamilton Pool which is NOT part of Lake Travis and requires a reservation to get in with at least 1 year wait. The restaurants and shops shown at 8:10 is a photo taken in Toulouse, France at La Kasban restaurant (seen in foreground). The video mentions floating restaurants. There's only one floating restaurant on Lake Travis and it has had 3 owners in as many years, it's currently called Captain Pete's and I do not recommend their food at all, worst burgers on the lake (day old, hard, and salty). The only thing this video has correct is Volente Beach & Oasis restaurant which are very 'touristy'.
Also I think there are black and brown people who visit and live in the lake Travis area. 😮 But….you’d never know from this video😅
