And is there options for paper copies of troubleshooting, factory service manuals and/or vacuum and electrical schematics?

Hi, Charles. A paper copy of the installation manual as well as the owner’s manual are shipped along with your engine purchase. A PDF copy of the installation manual can be found on www.cumminsrepower.com and can be printed. In addition, www.quickserve.cummins.com has electronic copies of all of the manuals as well as an electrical schematic.

CumminsEngines, do you think that in the future there will be a full factory service/repair manual available for purchase? If I spend this much on a machine, I’d really like to see the full disassembly/reassembly procedures on paper (or computer) and know the thing inside and out well before breaking out the wrenches. Just to be clear, I’m talking about servicing (myself, in my home garage) after hundreds of thousands of miles of usage well after any warranty has expired. Thank you

CumminsEngines hey, so about a complete service manual...? I’d like to be able to get tolerances and specs in detail, if I’m to consider rebuilding it in the future. That’s reasonable, right?

Is it advisable to carry an extra mass sensor when off-roading?

I would carry a can of MAF cleaner. Available at most auto-parts stores.

If ya need another media project, I have a 1960 Willys CJ5 that needs this engine :-) I am a poor man and have no clue how Im going to get this one running once I finish the body restoration that Im doing now.

Really, you can't throw the code to a simple eprom that can just display the fault in words and tell you what sensor is placing the error? It's like very simple without even a CPU. I mean if your off roading do you really have internet access?

Not a good choice for a motor swap if you think about it. 20 grand by the time you buy the engine, plus labor, and other misc parts. So for 20 grand you get 160hp/260 tq, doesnt make sense when there are other options with more power for a lotttt less.

The R2.8 is pricey... even for those who can perform their own labor and already own a viable (paid-off) daily driver with a tired/high mileage engine. The other major issue/deal breaker (imho) is it's limited to vehicles 1999 and older!! The R2.8 is, unfortunately, not the thrifty, holy grail swap option everyone may have hoped it was going to be... at least not for another 5 - 10+ yrs when some used r2.8's start showing up... and even then I'm thinking used resale is going to be right around $5k.

@StormLaker1975 - Either that (which would be awesome) or find/become friends with someone who currently works for ‘em!

Actually would be great to see someone come out with a cellphone Android/iOS App, which would either 1) compliment the Murphy Gauge and/or 2) allow owners to upgrade/replace it all together!

I was thinking the same thing too!

Having multiple codes for one failure because their on one circuit makes troubling shooting difficult. Hopefully you can isolate these failure codes so you only display the one failure.
