    Hello Dave. I just watched your interview with The Captain over on Anderton's TH-cam channel (I know, I'm a little late to the game). It was a great interview which inspired me to share how the guitar saved my life and I'd like to reposted it on your channel.
    I absolutely agree with Dave on how music and specifically the guitar can give your life a sense of purpose. I was 16 when a guitar saved my life. I had just finished a 3 month stint in juvy and was getting ready for a dreaded 9 month stretch in a group home. With the holidays coming around the corner my Mom gave me a ray of hope by getting me a Kay acoustic guitar for Christmas. Little did I know that I was entering into a 9 month guitar intensive. A lot of the other residents were aspiring guitarists/wannabe rockstars and a few of the counselors played as well. I learned a ton of songs (Stairway) and techniques in a short time. But more importantly I learned that I could learn, which gave me a much needed sense of value. The guitar gave me the confidence to pursue life. Now after 42 years, a successful career in the film industry as a production manager and countless guitars, I credit a large part of my success in life to that old Kay. I still play on a daily basis and Dave's videos provide a ton of inspiration.
    Rock on my Brother.

    Dear Dave, you just don't play "like you mean it", but you really, really do. You and sir Frusciante both. I wish Hendrix was alive to see you both, Man, he would have so enjoyed you guys.

    The playing at the beginning of this video is phenomenal. It has that in-the-zone vibe to it that I always chase when I'm improvising. It was so good I had to watch it a second time.

    I’m looking at getting a Vintage Summer of Love and I thought to myself “I bet Dave has some awesome V6 demos”. Here I am, 3 years late, but better late than never and loving your playing. I could listen to you jam all day! You have an old-school style and ability to make the instrument really sing. Seems a rare thing these days...

    I love that you gave that guitar life with Marjo....I really love giving instruments good homes when I don't play them....I had a Parker guitar like that....gave it to my granddaughter and she loves it immensely and it'll be with her probably forever....it sat in the case for years around me....needed a friend! Happy New Year Dave! Need to ask....what brand is a V6? My old eyes couldn't make it out on the headstock...

    Mr. Dave with my Monday dose of sanity!!! Great jams, my friend!
    As for the guitars: I like both... they have entirely different tones, but both are lovely. I think I'd use them to capitalize on the emotive differences I feel from them, slight as they are. I think playability and personal connection is going to be the real determining factor. It seems pretty obvious that you have more of a connection to the one you gifted Marjo. You play both of them wonderfully, of course, but it seems like more of an intimate experience when your playing on your old friend.

    Heck Dave, it looks like a White Strat Convention! Very cool. Honestly, the V6 you gave to Marjo has the sweetest sound to my ears. But you could not have picked a better custodian in her. Great playing on both of them, however. You made my Monday night, once again. Thank you, buddy!

    Hello Dave ! i love the both ! but i prefer my V6 lol
    I have one it's Vintage v6 Fillmore ,with olympi(a)(c) white color ,but reverse headstock (i love reverse headstock) ,maple neck and rosewood fretboard ,i have 3 wilkinson pickup with reverse staggered plot ,and the bridge pickup the angle is inverted ,the guitar is all reverse like lefty guitar in the right hand , it's a hendrix style ! i love it so much !!!! the sound is completly different from other strats i have , the neck pickup is very bright and a lot of power , the middle is near a neck telecaster sound ,and the bridge is very wild with power but not so bright !
    i have other strat guitar with wilkinson pickups ,my last buy it's a eagletone st62 it's a fiesta red body with maple neck and fretboard , i put a freeway 10 positions switch (humbuckers and 3 pickups positions ) and it's very similar to vintage brand but very lower quality (i work on it ,i change the nut ,i make a wooden wedge on the neck pocket because the action is too high , i cut the head stock to make a fender strat look like head stock .
    the guitar is ready now and the sound is awesome ! all guitar i have with wilkinson pickup sound great !
    The strat is for me ,the best guitar of the world ! confort ,easy playing ,easy customise , easy repair , and very cool look !
    thanks for your video ! take care ,be safe ! best regards .

    I like the way you play your old faithful guitar... More soulful and more connected which makes sense since you yourself said you've played it for four years.. however I prefer the sound of the second one . More open I think . Hope France is treating you well good sir it seems from initial impressions it is ! Happy new year! Question , have you ever recorded with your Katana via USB? Im interested in looking into that aspect of the amp for making home demos as opposed to using plugins . Cheers!

    Dave, Great comparison of the V6's. On the basis of your reviews of Vintage guitars I've just purchased a distressed sunburst V6. I've had many Fender Strats in the past - both MIA and MIM models - and have often been disappointed. I'm not disappointed with the V6 - in particular the range of tones I can get with it. I agree with your comments about Vintage guitars, and cheaper guitars in general - there is a lot of snobbery out there. Find one that suits you and provides the tones you want then frankly it's a keeper regardless of price. I'd make one comment about cheaper guitars, however. Don't put them under the microscope and obsess about the finish, etc. Just play them and bond. I just can't see the great Rory Gallagher obsessing about his axe! Oh, and by the way, I went away from my usual string height and neck relief setup and tried the ones you use on your Strats - far more comfortable! Many thanks! Keep Safe!

  • @dejadejayoutube
    @dejadejayoutube 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You got there in the end man, stronger low mid fundamentals in the relic, (very condusive to making it through TH-cam's compression:) *the low you referred to on the non-relic didn't come through the recording as much, however the strings(9's I think) or the acoustic quality did, ...which could have been the reason why it confused me in to thinking it didn't sound as punchy and fundamental in context,...what a rabbit hole;)
    PS. (match a mahogany neck-rosewood fingerboard with agathis/basswood/nato or sassafras body strat type configuration for low mid fundamental punch,...and the bridge pickup will never get too spikey,...imho;) cool vid man

  • @IanLuckett

    I was surprised by how different they sounded in the opening jam, and I am definitely a nerd, because I kept trying to magnify the screen to the point where I could see where your switch and tone / volume controls were set! The 2010 (more battered) V6 had a warmer and slightly richer tone with more depth in the midrange IMO, and the 2008 seemed to "sing" more in the high ranges, but was thinner overall, and just a bit darker. I had no preference, different tones, different uses, both sounded great in your hands Dave. For me, if I heard those tones when playing, I would gravitate to the 2010, simply because it is closer to the way my own Strat sounds! (When I say "closer" I don't really mean "close", just in the same galaxy, rather than the same ball-park.)

  • @gerryloughran1676

    Number 1 for me ....great tones got mojo ...cool...bought few 'white' guitars as could not get the colour wanted ..have turned out to be some of the best guitar ever bought...one thing that always surprises me is alot of players never equalise 'balance' the volume of low and the high 'E' with the pickups..Number 1 sings...Number 2 got setup issues would start with neck bow and sure sounds like string and pickup height probs then dail in the intonation ...more

    I had this really old Bc Rich strat (lol) and it was always super clear, bright and had an amazing chime compared to my other strats.... then i realised it had 500k pots and ceramic pickups... I was very surprised at how good it sounded... Anways... Bobs V6 is this demo sounds like my Squier Classic Vibe 70s, not as chimey, more mids and bass?
    I keep seeing V6s show up for sale online and I am always tempted to buy one... hmmm... Maybe I should try one...
    As for the postion 2 and 4, for some reason the neck and bridge are always more Bluesy and more Minor sounding (a poor description but its best way i can describe it) People who play a lot of Major bluesy (Mayer) stuff use the inbetween sounds cause its softer? Does this make sense or this totally stupid haha.

    True love never grows old...isn't it, Dave? I agree with you about the sound and pickups of these guitars, though I wouldn't say this or that one is better. I like your old V6 (the one you gave away) with a clean tone very much. Still, the other is also quite nice for certain moods (I think it would make a wonderfull "Woman Tone"). Anyway, I quit comparing the sound of my guitars, everyone is having it's own sound, feel and character and makes me play in a certain way. One day this guitar fits my mood, the other day it doesn't. And I'm not talking about the difference between a Les Paul and a strat, but about the difference between a strat and a strat.
    Few years ago i saw a video with Trace Foster (guitar tech for Joe Perry, Angus Young) talking about how Joe selects his guitar: by feeling.
    Believe me, it helps. Just play "Hey Joe" on a Gibson with P90's and you'll get a totally different feeling/song. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but at least it has helped me stop chasing sounds (free at last!). Today, most of the times I just pick a guitar and start playing, don't care to much about sound, just feel. I only switch to another guitar if it really doesn't feel right (aah... yes... there are moments I wish I still had only one guitar, those old days, when there wasn't anything to choose at all)

  • @maidenman74
    @maidenman74 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the relic'd guitar has a bit more tele style snap to it. It doesnt sound like a tele but has that sort of dynamic in regards to reaction to pick attack! i dont know if that makes sense but i hope you know what i mean. i love the sound of it (in my headphones anyway)

At the end the best guitar is the one your playing , greetings from Argentina , good video 🙂👍

    I think there is an airy quality to the Marjo strat that the other one does not have. I wonder how the non-Marjo Strat would respond to 300kOhm pots instead of standard 250kOhm ones... should brighten it up.

    preferred your original one way more. spent many hours listening and watching you spend many hours playing it!, it sounds brighter and clearer and open, it looks better and I would probably prefer the neck much more also. hear it now, I can tell.. it just sounds so much like is so happy to see you again. It made me want a V6 very very very much but couldn't find a dealer over here and saw prices to order one and then heard all the horror stories of their horrible quality now

    so after having this jam of yours stuck in my head for about a month and playin it allot in my car with the speakers blaring thinking im cool i stumbled upon a great guitar player named gary moore, ive heard of him befor but never really checked him out untill recentlt and hes a beast, than i saw an interview of some guy talking about two great players from europe, one being gary moore and the other being rory gallager, and the guy said rory gallager was also a beast, so i had to check him out a few days ago and i found this song, sound similar to you, and this jam, maybe same chord progression but in a dif key, 6, 1, 5, 4 i think. but the lead you do sounds like him or i should say his sounds like yours ;] so you are up there with the greats imo. here the link i found to that rory gallager song "Rory Gallagher-Bad Penny (Rockpalast 1982)" on TH-cam

    Are you gonna try an original grey v1? The grey v1 has more range than the v2 and v3 and obviously the black v1.
