I saw this quartet live in Gothenburg autumn 1974. It was called Hobby quartet for some reason. Listening to it now on youtube is very much like listening to Hendrix live on youtube. A lot of the power disappears, and it’s possible to find minor mistakes. I remember how powerful Hendrix actually was live, and also the extreme attack Brötzmann’s Hobby Quartet had.
Here are four tremendous European jazz artists. Every one is a monster...watch Kowald fly over that bass, vonSchlippenback can't hit a wrong note, Lovens' drums propel wildly, and then there's Brotzmann. Oh yeah...this here is euphoria!
“What kind of music are you listening to these days?” “Do you really want to know?” “Of course. Why would I ask if I didn’t want know?” “Peter Brotzman Quartet” “What’s that?” “I’ll show you.” Ten minutes later “Why did you show me that?” “You asked me to.”
Peter Brotzmann and the bass player REALLY look like skinheads (the bassplayer evan wears suspenders) in 1974 ONLY skinheads looked like that! Amazing performance by the way.
Probably one of the best live shows in the history of music
Beautiful. Paul Lovens is a genius
Edit: RIP Brotzmann. You will be missed 😞
Seriously!!!!
Peter always was and still is a beast, I saw him live recently, and in his mid 70's he still shoots fire.
Nice profile pic homie!
I saw him 5 days ago, and same opinion;)
@@cooldude123817 you too man
@@travisfalk1241 And you.
This music can dislodge a trapped soul or free one who is stuck or tied or imprisoned - if that person is ready and really listening
Yeah is passionate, so raw and enlivening for me
I saw this concert so i'm very old now
Mystical experience

@@thomasfritz5844 I completely forgot about this comment. It's like someone else wrote it. Weird.

Umm... Why does the best video of all time not have more likes?
Masters then and now ❤❤❤❤❤
Anyone else noticing how it looks like an old german alt. film from like the 40's with it's janky motion? Really fitting!
i really wanted to know what type of film is this honestly
Good night, Titan

This is so amazing, I love it ☺️
Nice...I never get tired of watching this group...FANTASTIC
What a beautiful cacaphonous mess. The pie pans on the drums is my favorite part
Peter Kowald wrecking havoc on that instrument!
Literally!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Im realising i need to listen more free jazz
GG Allin on bass
When brotzman begins playing clarinet, why does the clarinet reduce down to the size of a harmonica? Does he eat the clarinet?
Who wants 2 have a jam sesh tonight tickets r on me : -D
Why have the closing images of Brötmann receiving flowers, then throwing them into the audience and giving a clenched fist salute been removed? !!!
Good question. But if they were removed it looks like they are back!
Bierhaus Fluxus at its Maximum Expansion Jeffrey Dean
are the instruments ok?
The instruments are having fun ; )
::! Spannung !::
What's the name of the last theme (25:00)?

legt dem spinner doch mal autumn leaves oder blue bossa aufs pult....dit wird n gelächter
daß diese Musik etwas schräg ist , stört mich nicht . Aber sie ist langweilig und ohne Einfälle , daß stört mich .
Sounds like a band of chimpanzees trying to figure out what to do with these instruments
Thats the whole point almost
To play the instruments in completly different ways to archive more sounds
What does Peter have on his sax neck? Some kind of tin foil?
I always thought it was because otherwise the neck/headjoint would explode!
RIP Peter Brotzmann
