I'm someone who listened to deathmetal all my life. Too see this enthousiasm in playing on stage as well beeing a super cool dude with fans and just keeps signing guitars like he has got all day...I'm a new fan.
what a person. A true genius with immesurable talent, and the kindness of the ages in his heart. I'd love to play like him,but would be even more proud to have such a man as a friend.
Tommy makes we Australians proud, he's just the best ambassador and a wonderful example of the very best of the Australian character, friendly and down to earth. Oh, and he can play a bit as well.........
i too was luckey to meet tommy in knoxville, tenn last year and i was star struck at first but was soon put somewhat at ease by his easy manner. i agree he is the best guitarist around today
he is so down to earth. when i watched him he told us he had like 280 concerts that year. how does he manage to stay so polite to everyone he meets and be that into it everytime he plays.
2:41 just shows you how much TE absolutely loves to share his love for music and the guitar. He loves what he does and loves putting smiles on peoples' faces. He's truly one of a kind.
Totally agree. my favourite guitarist, (and in my opinion the best) and has written some of the most haunting and beautiful modern acoustic guitar songs out there. Gives away and shares his knowledge with the world, is not up himself and just loves music. What a great role model and truly gifted man!
How did you learn the pinky bar back then sir? i struggle doing a pinky bar on accoustic with thick string, i can do it on nylon strings. but doing it on accoustic is just really difficult
@@midnightaustin9287 get a good setup and get the neck as straight as possible (almost no relief), it shouldn't be too hard. The song is tricky, but the barring shouldn't be too difficult.
Tommy is the most amazing performer I've ever seen play a guitar! He'd make an old Stella sound like a $5000 guitar. I learned long ago that just playing a famous guitarist's model that it doesn't make ME sound like them! Wish I could sound half as good as this guy!
Dude.... I am sooooo jealous of you. He seems like a real down to earth guy. Loved watching this. I'm pretty sure the 1 dislike was someone as jealous as I :P. Thanks for uploading.
I have been fortunate enough to meet Tommy twice - before concerts - the first time I brought an OLD OLD 1960's (Sears and Roebuck) guitar, and he was gracious enough to sign it... however, he didn't play it -- he told me he would need a tetnus shot to play it! :-) The second time I met him in Nashville, TN, I got both TE and Dr. John Knowles to sign my NEW guitar (Taylor 314CE). Tommy said, "Nice guitar..." and that just made my day. Tommy IS music. Watch closely when he plays... :-D
@MotherPluckr Cool, It's a lovely guitar. Thanks, I love that wood too. Sound on it is great. It was €500 when I bought it last year. It was only my second acoustic. All the best man!
Gerry Reed was a vastly underrated guitar great. I guess a lot of the public saw him as a bit of a clown, but he was an absolute musical genius at composing new guitar tunes.
Joshfinz, you're right... I never did and I just learned what is a Drop D tuning... anyway, never is late to start to play guitar. Thanks for the reply!
+Byron Evans Yeah I was surprised he gave credit to Chet, saying "how on earth did he come up with it" but at 6:52 he does say "I stole so many ideas from Jerry Reed"
I think Tommy is our greatest Australian export. More power to him I say. Don't come back to Australia, there's no future here for someone that talented.
I have Takamines. I was pleased to hear tommy say he has Takamines at home. He uses Matons on the road. I wonder which he prefers. I'm sure his Takamines are from the Pro Shop in Japan not the G series or Jasmine ones. that are made everywhere from Indonesia to China.
Back then you had to have an exceptional ear to pickup a riff like struttin with a tape recorder or record player. Now you just download a tab and anyone can play it if they're motivated enough lol! Awesome Tommy does that piece well!
LOL... the song "Struttin'" was a signature piece of the fourth c.g.p. (Certified Guitar Player), Jerry Reed. The three c.g.p.'s still "Struttin" are Tommy, Dr. John Knowles, and Steve Wariner. I am trying hard to find Steve to sign my guitar so I will have all three living c.g.p. signatures on my Taylor. Then I will keep it forever. TE inspires me to do one of two things -- to practice, practice practice -- or to just give up and burn the damned thing. So far, I'm practicing. :-)
@MotherPluckr Thats great. I did it months ago when I got the ticket. It was brilliant that he does that. By the way your playing is great in your videos! That guitar has a really lovely sound, How much was it?
@Manu49pere you cant compare them. they are both from a different style. it would be very hard for tommy to play this flamenco stuff and also for paco to play some virtuoso tommy tune. in my eyes they are both two of the best players in the world. but hard to compare (:

intended to watch a particular song of Tommy's 2 hours later still watching Tommy.
The story of my life lol

Happens to me all the time 😆

I love the mom whispers. My mom would be doing the same thing :)

So nice of him to be like this with fans, it's great to see.
Unbelievable!!! Man can he ever play!! Cool that you got to spend some time with him.
This is such a lovely story. Just grinning ear to ear. Good on Tommy, and you too.

Wow, it don't get much better than that! Congrats!
Hiya, Great video. Thats me who got the guitar signed after you. Thanks very much for posting, it was such a great night!
Aaah, he's wholesome.
what a beautiful sound your guitar has! And what a great song that struttin' is, this video made me want to learn this song!
How did you learn the pinky bar back then sir? i struggle doing a pinky bar on accoustic with thick string, i can do it on nylon strings. but doing it on accoustic is just really difficult

Dude.... I am sooooo jealous of you. He seems like a real down to earth guy. Loved watching this. I'm pretty sure the 1 dislike was someone as jealous as I :P. Thanks for uploading.

Tommy rocks..PERIOD!!
ce n'est pas un musicien ordinaire mais un homme extraordinaire....................b612

you've got a blessed guitar, mate..!
Son..... Jerry'd have a big smile all over his face :-)
No problem! I worked this song out a few years ago,it defiantly takes time to get but not impossible.Good luck!
You’re toy story arrangements are class mate well done. (fellow Irish man)

More proof that Jerry was a great composer and musician.
My buddys dad took me to see you. It changed my outlook on guitar
He's playing a Jerry Reed tune called "Struttin" at 6 min and again at 7 min. Jerry wrote it and Chet Atkins put it on his album "Me and My Guitar".
+Byron Evans
Yeah I was surprised he gave credit to Chet, saying "how on earth did he come up with it" but at 6:52 he does say "I stole so many ideas from Jerry Reed"

I promise I will play with Tommy one day.
Its hard to emulate the best guitfiddle player in the world.

@Manu49pere you cant compare them. they are both from a different style. it would be very hard for tommy to play this flamenco stuff and also for paco to play some virtuoso tommy tune. in my eyes they are both two of the best players in the world. but hard to compare (:
