My first good SLRs were the F3HP and the F4E. I now shoot an FTN and Leica M. In my opinion the Nikon F still offers the best (and sturdiest, ugh) film SLR experience. It's a shame we don't have more people learning on it and the M3 these days. An F and a standard lens can be had for very little money so I often recommend it when someone's looking to try film for the first time or start from the very beginning with a meter-less camera.
