Oh, Mr. Markie Polo, you come up with the greatest gems! Thank you so much for making this available. Edward Villella was one of the biggest stars, when I was a young student in New York, and it's nice to get to see him here, younger and juicier.

A lot of this footage seems to have been filmed at the old City Ballet studios, which I knew, later, as the school of Richard Thomas and Barbara Fallis, up on Broadway around 83rd. Was NYCB still using those studios when this show was filmed? I can't tell if those other studios are actually in the State Theatre (yes, that's the name of that theater, I don't care how much they want me to call it by another odious name).

Yes these are the old studios that City Ballet used. I was a student of Richard Thomas and Barbara Fallis, and well remember that studio myself!

There seemed to be a positive, lively energy at that school, the few times I went there for class, and I don't think I've ever done (or attempted to do) faster grands battements than were demanded there. All the guys wore cut-off black tights, which looked cute, including young Richard Thomas, who was at barre once when I was there. I also remember (or did I dream it?) Dustin Hoffman sitting on the staircase landing, watching class. His wife at the time (Anne Byrne Hoffman) was probably in class; I know she later was the lead in a performance of SWAN LAKE Act 2 that I think used students from that school. I remember going to that performance, and that she seemed pretty good, though not at the level I was used to seeing, in performances by ABT, NYCB, Joffrey, and other visiting companies, and also that she was very tall. My recollections are so hazy--I wonder if it could be that her partner in this performance was Daniel Levins, from ABT? Anyway, I wish I could have studied more with Mr. Thomas and Ms. Fallis.

I assume by Richard Thomas you mean the actor who portrayed "John-Boy Walton" in the CBS-Lorimar television series "The Waltons."
I had read about actor Thomas that his parents, including his father (also named "Richard Thomas," but "Richard S.," while the actor is "Richard Earl") were dancers and dance teachers in New York.
Are there any films or photographs of actor Richard Thomas in that ballet class at the school run by his parents?
By the way I saw Richard Thomas in a few TV series' before his days in "The Waltons," one I think an episode of "Marcus Welby, M.D.," and he was already such a superb actor at about 18 years old. I also recll having seen Thomas in a film about the effects of actor James Dean's premature death on some young persons
Supposedly actor Richard Thomas had also been a child actor in an NBC-TV weekend show for children titled "1, 2, 3 Go," wherein young Thomas and his adult co-host discussed a different topic each program and not in the typical manner in which the adult condescended to the younger person (a la "Mr. Wizard"), but young Thomas actually displaying his intelligence and sometimes superior knowledge about a topic in some programs.
