- Situated in both North and West Africa, Mauritania is three-quarters desert and one and a half times the size of France.
North of Nouakchott, covering an area of 12,000 square kilometres, the Banc d'Arguin is home to unique fauna and flora. It is there, in this sandy universe with its windswept mud flats, that the Imraguen people, an exceptional society entirely based on the sea, live.
As rugged as the desert they have learned to survive in, the Imraguen people are known for integrating into their community anyone willing to learn their ways. The saying goes that you aren't born Imraguen, you become it.
That means a chance for Hamada, an apprentice fisherman from Nouakchott, to learn a new profession.

This guy wants to be a fisherman and cant swim?? Wth???? Why not start with swim lessons first?
Historically European fishermen and seamen in general couldnt swim either, it seemed it was the norm until contemporary times.

Non of these guys seems to be enthusiastic about fishing like western fishermen. The fish they catch is considered bait here. No wonder they live in boxes.
