    I have a Luna Lite and a Solis lite but my uses are different, they're great little walking/hiking blades. I found the weaker backspring on the Luna a slight worry, it's not when you are at home flicking them around when a weaker backspring catches you out, it's at the end of a 15 mile walk when you are carving extra tent pegs in the pouring rain. The tighter backspring on the Solis is a nice safety feature when we've had the ideal safety option of a locking blade taken away.

    I dislike all of these knives and won't buy them, because of the total lack of consideration for left-handers in the pocket clip. I have one of the Heinnie Haynes edition Lunas, and dismantling the knife to remove the pocket clip was a major hassle. Poltergeist Designs are repeat offenders in this regard. And I agree with you about the stupid positioning of the lanyard hole in the new design. It's a prime example of a designer prioritising form over function.

      Interesting point. I'm a lefty in many things like writing and fishing, but use a knife as a right hander. I hear what you say about not being able to configure a knife for left hand carry but to be honest, I don't like seeing all the additional screw holes and recesses on the show side. It's definitely a right handers world.

    Great video. I have recently purchased a Solis, and have attached a lanyard. I don’t have the same issue as you, and I wonder if it’s because of the way you have attached your lanyard from a closed loop, meaning that it does indeed sit where you don’t want it, when the knife is being used. My lanyard was tied through the lanyard hole, not looped through it, and as such, when using the knife, the lanyard drops down and out of the way. Just a thought, and an observation. 👍

    • @randomreviewz2628
      @randomreviewz2628  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are absolutely right. I think a single pass lanyard with a slightly longer loop should help the lanyard to drop down out of the way. I'm really favouring my UKPKs at the moment so this Solis hasn't has any pocket time. Beautiful knife though.

      @@randomreviewz2628 Ah, i’m not too sure what the UKPK is. I’ll see if you have any videos on it. 👍
      Yeah, that’s it, exactly, just a single pass through the landyard hole. It works for me, and yeah, like you said, with a slightly longer loop.

    Great overview, and the issues you are having are understandable. Dispite that, they are beautiful modern slipjoints and I would happily carry them both.

    I'd like them all a lot better if the corner of the blade didn't stick out of the back. I hate having jagged things in my pocket

    • @randomreviewz2628

      I hear you, but the corner on the Luna is nicely rounded off and I've never had an issue with catching my skin or pocket. I agree that the design is much cleaner when the corner is hidden, like on the UKPK. Thanks for commenting!

    Thanks - really useful comparison.
    Heinnie Haynes specs the original Luna Titanium as having a 7.6 cm blade and 76 g weight vs the Luna Titanium Stripe's 7.0 cm blade and 160 g weight. Could you confirm that the original Luna Titanium has a longer blade and is around half the weight of the Stripe?
    (HH do sometimes get their specs slightly wrong.)

      You can't really go wrong with any of those, especially if you aren't bothered about using the stud for one hand opening. If quick and easy one hand opening is a priority, the Luna edges it. Enjoy whichever you go for.

    Also, do you know if Real Steel do a tumbled black finish on a non locking Solis? I think that would make a great knife.

    • @randomreviewz2628
      @randomreviewz2628  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've not seen a tumbled version, but it would be nice. The Stonewashed black one I have it the Luna Eco in steel. I wouldn't mind a slipjoint version of this. Nice weight to it.

      @briar6851 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@randomreviewz2628 Sorry, I meant stonewashed, not tumbled. Yeah i’d like to see one in the Solis. I think that’d be nice, and probably take to the inevitable loss of the black finish on the edges, through use, better than the solid black finish.
      I’ve got a gold thumb stud on order also, after seeing your videos. 👍

    Great vid. was contemplating the Solis as all the slip joint Luna's aren't available at the moment that I can see, however the action does seem a bit much especially since I'm coming from locking knives and one handed openings so I'll settle for the Luna boost. I'm convinced you've bought out all the slip joints and the sold separately thumb studs though haha 😂

    • @randomreviewz2628
      @randomreviewz2628  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can still see some slip joint lunas. On Heinnie Haynes, thy still have the Ti Luna and Luna Stripe. If you want the G10 Luna Lite, then the Real Steel Shop ships straight from China an they have a deal on of 3 x Luna Lites for $60 USD. I highly recommend the original Ti Luna if you can get one. Good luck!

    Hiya dude, great review and nit-picking of these knives, glad I'm not the only one with simular opinions!
    I just got the Luna Stripe and noticed the Jimping below the blade has virtually no bite to it at all compared to the regular G10 more basic models. Seems yours is simular! Have you noticed this? I got a Black stonewashed Eco like you have too, and the jimping on that falls between the nice sharp jimping on the G10 models, and the Stripe. So not bad, not great.
    Further, the 'stripe' texture on mine is pretty poor on the plain scale compaired to the non-pocket clip side I've noticed, which is disapointing. Yours seems well defined on both sides...
    On a side note. I bought the Black Eco purely for the Official Luna thumbstud, in black, for my (DIY) Blackout G10 Luna, but, the tolerance on it seems very high and I cannot get it to slide onto the blade of my blackout Luna, presumably because of the DLC coating making the blade ever-so-slightly thicker. Have you had this issue? If so, how did you get yours to fit since I see a stud on your Blackout G10 Luna lol.
    Or did you get yours individually and they're a better fit than the one that comes with the Eco? It's pretty frustrating not being able to put it on. Ive tried a mineral oil lubricant to help but to no avail, and don't want to scratch the DLC coating off too much since the blade is semi-stainless D2.
    Any help with this would be really appreciated! And your thoughts on the jimping? I may return my Stripe to Heinnie Haynes and see if they have a better example in stock.
    Nice to see fellow UK knife guy btw :)

    • @randomreviewz2628
      @randomreviewz2628  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ed, I've not noticed a difference in the gimping but I'll check it out. The stripe texture on the "show side" is slightly less pronounced than the clip side. It's not a huge problem in general. Regarding the thumb studs, I think the tolerances can be tight on the studs. I had one which just wouldn't fit my Luna. This was a problem with the stud rather than the blade. If you got the Stripe at that discounted price, I'd keep it as they have sold out nd it was a bargain! I love the stripe texture, but I prefer the standard clip from the Titan/G10 models.

      Maybe you could careful try some fine wet n dry paper on the inside channel of the thumb stud

  • @capttwitch

    I would argue that a stiffer pull is better 🤷 because it's a slip joint.. Most people I follow that are into slip joint prefer a tight pull then loose.. I also rather not have a stud on a slip joint 🤷😅

    Is it legal to own a locking knife without carrying it in the UK? In been trying to find that out but everything I can read about is talking about carrying.

    • @drengskap
      @drengskap ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can own any number of locking knives and carry them around on your own property - that's why they are freely available for sale! The difficulty arises when it comes to carrying them in a public place - to do this, you must have a legitimate reason to be doing so, e.g. you need it for your job, you are going fishing/hunting/camping etc. Basically, you have to be able to justify why you are have it on you. Self-defence is NOT a legitimate reason, since that means you are intending to use the knife as a weapon. Of course, all this only applies if you are stopped and searched by a police officer, otherwise you don't have to justify it to anyone. You know better than I do whether that is likely to happen to you, or whether you have a legitimate reason for carrying a locking knife. Personally, I carry locking knives quite often, because I am a law-abiding citizen with no criminal record, I have legitimate reasons for doing so (the kinds of work I do), and I have never had any problems. DISCLAIMER: I am not a lawyer, and this is not legal advice - it's my own personal understanding of how the law applies, based on my personal circumstances and experience. I hope this is useful advice.
