  • Olympian Sir Mo Farah was brought to the UK illegally as a child and forced to work as a domestic servant, he has revealed.
The athlete has told the BBC he was given the name Mohamed Farah by those who flew him over from Djibouti. His real name is Hussein Abdi Kahin.
He was flown over from the East African country aged nine by a woman he had never met, and then made to look after another family's children, he says.
In a documentary by the BBC and Red Bull Studios, Sir Mo recalls the moment he found out his family were still alive after years of no contact.

To the few half-wit commenters, he is not an illegal immigrant, he was trafficked. He didnt plot at 9 years old to come to the UK under a false name and find fame and fortune; he worked himself to the bone to turn a horrendous situation into something amazing. And he'll always be welcome here, unlike many of you.

I was 8 years old when I watch him win gold in the Olympics. The sense of pride he made me feel in my country is something That’s stayed with me for a decade. To realise a man who I’ve admired and seen as a hero figure for frankly as long as I’ve been able to think grew up as a slave, the fact he went from being a slave to being what looked to my 8 year old self as the champion of the world, and his ability to simply carry on and be stoic has changed my opinion of Hussain from being a sporting legend to one of greatest men alive today. He is a bonifide legend

Really happy for you Sir. I was stolen and trafficked by a gang of women traffickers from the US and I've been living in Germany ever since. Till this day, I still live as an Unidentified Human without any ID and 8 years ago when I tried saying a little about my situation on Facebook after years of living in fear and depression , I got death threats from Racists and was even lucky to make it out alive after being attacked by them in one occasion. Despite the fact that I have lived a life with no criminal record, raised myself and lived on the streets for years after being left for dead by the traffickers that couldn't sell me like they did some kids, I still somehow feel the pain of not knowing anything about my family or who I am, and it hurts, but I still carry on doing what I love as an ARTIST, hoping someday, I'll be able to talk about my plight without fear, through the help of reporters. When I was a teenager I had major brain surgery (fortunately, a total recovery), but afterwards I was bullied and teased at school. However, this lit a spark which continues to this day and I've acheived many successes in life athletically, academically and financially. It's heartbreaking. Kudos to him for being on the journey to coming to terms with his life path. There are so many people behind closed doors who are suffering, whose stories will never be told here in the UK. He is a shining light of what is possible in the face of unbearable adversity. I wish him the best of times rediscovering his family and homeland and all the best for his future representing the UK as a bastion of opportunity, support, progress and success. Be gentle to those around you. It's impossible to understand what someone is going through. Always better times ahead.

Slavery may have been abolished but it still exists. Human traffickers earn millions out of it thats why they do it. They prey on vulnerable people who are desperate for a new life, offer them the world and then once they have them in their grasp they ain't going nowhere until the traffickers have earned their money out of them or worked them to death. Poor Mo this must have been eating away at him for years living a lie gets more difficult as time goes on.
