Hey Mike.. been meaning to ask for a while - what size wheels are you riding? Look like 58-60mm; like you I took a few painful ankle hits in my hallfcabs recently and am thinking hitops are in my near future
I normally skate the Sk8 hi vans. I had like pair after pair of those when I started again, thinking old guy needs the ankles covered. Then I was eyeing Half cabs outta nostalgia and they’re great, look great, but F!! It hurt getting hit in the same spot twice. It broke a blood vessel. I’m pretty tough but the exact exact same spot and it hurt. I got two pairs of sk8 hi’s I got cheap during Black Friday waiting to go after these cabs wear out. My wheels are 54mm I believe, dragon formulas. Or are you talking on my SurfSkate, the pink ones? Slimeballs, 66mm 78A’s.
The new Year is the same in many ways but different in others. I have gotten away from drinking my calories and buying the morning coffee. So no energy drinks or sodas and I am making a lot of tea throughout the day at work. It may seem like something small, but I have over done it with buying coffee or store bought drinks most of my life. I drink too many of my calories. Trying to remove that from my life. Day 12.
No way! That’s huge. I have been lucky that I’ve never had the coffee habit. Started drinking it in grad school at like 32 years old, just to read the bullshit papers forced upon me to read by, “academics”. Aka egotistical bullshit peddlers. But the habit never stuck. I’ll do an espresso when in Colombia or Spain or Buenos Aires, or on rare occasion but that’s it. But I was lucky in that I never was a drinker of calories. Most are obese from bad choices about what to drink, like diet sodas, artificial creamers in coffee, soda, energy drinks, etc. it’s like no coincide that 90% of RedBull athletes get pudgy. I had a friend who lived on rockstar then got off and blew up big. So good on ya. Best thing I ever did was cut vegetables from my life. I eat only meat and some low glycemic fruits. That’s it. 2 plus years now. Best health I’ve ever had. Feel 20 again, down to a 31 waist and I was 32 all through high school and I was ripped then mostly too. But now it’s easy once I went full carnivore I realized I was an idiot thinking I had a good diet most of my life after age 16. If you’re not shredded shredded by just existing, your diet is garbage, basically is what I learned. Prior, for decades I ran, swam, did 200 pull-ups a day, surfed, paddled, you name it, and still only barely kept fat off. You can’t outdo a shit diet, and when you cut all bullshit you’re ripped without effort. Took me about 40 years to learn though. But I surf circles around kids half my age and that’s not easy for regular humans on standard American diets to do. Most wouldn’t last an hour in the surf. Look at cutting seed and all vegetable oils first after your drink experiment. You’ll be doing yourself another huge huge favor. 🤙🤙🤙🤙
@@mikeuptegrove I have lived of genetics and an active lifestyle for so long I never really considered what I was drinking or eating or not eating or drinking. The best I ever felt was intermittent fasting. Only eating from 1pm to 7pm. I would like to get back to that. Wife is full vegan so not sure I can cut the veg out. Although we are more bean heavy than veg heavy. Just had the old over 40 check that no one wants to talk about. Came out 100% clear. That was good to hear. Not drinking the calories and just getting out of the habit of buying drinks is oddly important to me. However, I can't explain why. Not even to myself. It is almost like it just hit me that it is a waste. I don't like waste. If can stay clear to the end of February, I know it is forever.
@AdventuresInSkateboarding right on. Yeah, tough if wife is vegan. A vegan gal I know, raised that way and lived her life that way, quit and started eating meat after 4 decades. Her health has seemed to improve greatly. I did all the vegan stuff and ate veggies, no red meat for almost a decade. It caused the acceleration of most of my issues. The beans are full of lectins that ruin your gut. Leaves and vegetable are full of oxalates that crystallize all your cell. People who get stones get them from spinach, kale, and beets. Those are the worst foods to eat basically. For 2 million years we ate only ruminants. We’ve only been eating plants for about 5,000 years after we learned hybridization because prior all plants were deadly toxic. So we made them less toxic but they’re not part of our regular diet. We’re the only species on earth that thinks we can eat things we didn’t evolve to eat and thrive. I wouldn’t have believed it myself if I did t go full carnivore and watch my body go back to its 20 year old self, see my mental cognitive jump ten fold easy, and now my body never hurts and I don’t feel old…anything that hurts is my fault now from skate or surf wipeouts. I also did intermittent fasting for about half decade first too. It also helps, but most of my results happened after upping my animal fats and animal proteins and cutting the cumulative negative effects of plant toxins. That was the real game changer for me. But yeah man, drinks are huge! I only drink mineral water, goat milk, and coconut water. If you can get your wife to let you go carnivore, you’ll get your 20 year old body back in first 90 days and you’ll see exactly what I’m saying first hand. Everyone does. Have t seen an exception yet. And most won’t go back after getting back to feeling 20 so easily.

@@mikeuptegrove I don't think she will go back. I could if I made my own food but honestly I smoked after a 14 hour work day 😂. Maybe I. Retirement I will become the grill master. 10 months to go of real hard work then 8 to 12 months of retirement process. Then the next chapter. One page at time.
