    FYI:
    “Risa” is Spanish for “laughter”. Although her parents are Japanese (I definitely assume), they struck gold by naming her appropriately, almost prophetically....
    “Sonrisa” is “smile”, which would fit her too...

    0:36 - Why is "mo" used here? This seems to say "You look cute *too*", meaning in addition to someone else. Google Translate seems to agree with me on this one.

    • @JapanesePod101
      @JapanesePod101  7 ปีที่แล้ว +168

      Hi Bud E,
      Thank you for posting.
      In this case @0:36, "mo" in "今日もかわいいね(Kyō mo kawaii ne)" means "too" "again" "as usual" or so.
      It is translated "You look cute today as well/usual" and it indicates "you look cute everyday".
      Hope this helps you.

      マジカル光彦 it also gives the sense that she is 'cute and more' or something like that? Like the second mo as in "A and B and" would play the role of "etc". Sorry if I'm completely wrong though, as my comment is still a question :).

    Question:How do you say I love you in Japanese?I've heard many different ways of saying it and I don't know what's the correct way!

    • @bigg9567
      @bigg9567 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the same as she said. If you are looking at the person and say it, it is basically implied you are saying it about them

      @thany3 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      CrazeBoutMayday There are just that many correct ways. Some more polite, some more casual. You can leave out some non-ambigious parts of a sentence, so something like "suki da" (casual speak) might be everything you'd like to say.

      The most common way I know of, which is no where NEAR as common as in America, is あなたが好き。The kanji is read as "すき" or suki. This literally translates to, "You are likable." I know it's weird, but this is only very rarely said between married couples, and almost never said between boyfriends and girlfriends. The Japanese tend to show love through action unlike Americans, myself included. Another way is 君をこいする。 The kanji is read as, "kimi." I don't know a good way to translate koisuru, but it's something a young girl says to her boyfriend. It's not something you'd say to your mother or your wife of twenty years. Koisuru may have a kanji for the koi part, or koi may be written in katakana. I'm not too sure, sorry about that. I hope I did a half decent job explaining. Best of luck!

      I didn't explain the meaning of あなたが好き。sorry. Anata, as you probably know, is a polite way to say "you." Anata is a common way to say "you" in formal situations and between lovers. Ga is an object marker. Suki means "likeable." The ga in front of Anata means Anata is the object of the verb. So, it translates to "you are likeable," or "I like you." Please do not say this willy nilly, as you'll likely irritate girls or boys at best, and freak them out at worst. Saying this is pretty much equivalent to telling your significant other you love them for the first time.

      恋(こい) means "love" or "passion" in a way you just can have with your partner... it's very rarely used but I'm just guessing because I haven't heard it yet - beside lyrics... passionate Japanese may correct me :) I'd stick with あなたが好き(です) or 愛してる... and there's the polite way 愛しています, too but since it's just used on family members or your partner it's unlikely, that you'll need it... but again you'll hear it in movies ^^

      Maybe at first you should learn the hiragana, then it will be a lot easier. I spent several hours learning it, then I found the English spelling was distracting and unnecessary.

      +Michael Fish The fact that people watch anime doesn't mean they're not serious about learning the language.

    • @fish6911
      @fish6911 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sandra Lara I never said that. I said that nearly all, if not all, of the words on the list were "anime Japanese". That is to say, they are easily recognizable words that anybody who has watched an anime or two can repeat. It's just annoying to have come into contact with so many people that think they can understand a language by watching television.
