DEBUT SINGLE Julius Caesar: • Julius Caesar | NÆTe
Today we are tackling a topic that has perplexed me for honestly decades; The phenomenon of Retro Bands. This whole video essay was spurred on by the appearance of Greta Van Fleet on the music scene. It for me, felt like a breaking point had been reached with retro music. This was the most mimic-y imitative band of all time. I could not believe the first time I heard them how much they sounded like Le Zeppelin. This was it. A threshold had been crossed. I then began to go over in my mind all the retro imitation bands of the last 40-50 years: The Struts, The Darkness, The Black Crowes, Lenny Kravitz, Rival Sons, Wolfmother, The Lemon Twigs and wondered…… why does this keep happening? What is this strange postmodern phenomenon that is "retro rock" or "retro artists" I decided to do a full examination and deep dive on why retro artists exist and furthermore, why they continually keep attempting to revive boomer-era classic rock as a mainstream force, when it is well apparent that its time atop culture is long since past. Hope you enjoy this in depth BreadTube-y analysis of postmodernism in music.
