Very Helpful Paul as always. I'm just getting started on KDP and your channel is a Gold Mine of great info. Almost everything I have needed help/info on regarding KDP you will have a video on! Keep up the great work Sir. Much appreciated!
My daughter and I recently started collaborating in creating writing journals and published a few but no sales promoting within my social group of thinking of starting to run ads and the information that you provided here was very educational. I'm hoping to start running my ads soon. Thank you for the info :)
Really good info and appreciated. SO many useful tips, especially the ranking search techniques and when to pull a campaign. Am not sure how to delete a campaign, but most of the dashboard makes sense. Have been at > 400% ACOS, so something had to be done... am glad I found your channel.
No. That $146.79 is the amount of revenue from the sales which is not the same as the royalties you actually receive after Amazon fees etc. are removed.
Hi Paul, great video as usual! I'm following you recently and you give big value! I'm trying to ads in these months and I would like to understand what you do when you launch a manual campaign on a new book and after 10 clicks you don't receive sales. You think the book is not ok and then stop the campaign and try to change something on the book (cover, interior,...)? Or you try to make a new ad with different keywords/bids? Often I have books that have good sales but with 40-50% Acos that with low margin do not reach breakeven so I don't know what to do...stop the campaign and do another one or keep on optimizing it? Thanks!
Depends on the CTR. If that is very low it could be the cover or price. If no sales after 19 clicks it could be the keyword is not relevant, the price, interior. Acid depends on price and conversion rate. There’s a lot of variables you’re asking me about. It’s not just one straight answer to cover it all. Experiment with small changes ie bid price, keywords, price of book, cover design.
Would you say that one needs to run ads to all their books at some point? OR would you say most of your books are sold orgnically, so it all comes down to keyword reseach?
Thank you, I am having a hard time learning the console. could you help with that. and how to stop a ad campaign and do all the list just stay there it can't be removed? thank you Paul for your help.
I also have an Amazon ads playlist which includes starting a campaign and then goes through to optimising a campaign etc. There’s also a good book recommendation on there.
If I got it right the sum of all bids on keywords shown exactly at 10:53 should not exceed your daily ads budget, which is 5 dollars in this video. That is $0.50 + $0.64 + $0.20 + (other bids) etc.
Thank you Paul for this useful information, I want to advertise a book that is selling around 50copies/month organically and only on the UK, what a market place should I choose to advertise this book, US or UK?
@@paulmarles Good advice, Thank you very much. I will do that, another question please, if I advertise on the UK market, is there any tax to pay on advertising, I don't live in the UK
I don’t know what the tax situation is for someone living overseas advertising on Amazon UK. That is part of your business research you would need to do.
Thanks Paul. Interesting take on the low number of (but specific) keywords as opposed to a lot of advice saying to say to go for 200-300 or more. I'm definitely going to try it out as it makes just as much sense. Have you tried doing a split test with one book? ie one campaign with a small number of keywords and another with 100's less relevant (but otherwise the same)?
No I haven’t done that. I think the problem would be that both campaigns would interfere with each other if it was on the same book. My main aim with ads is that I want to get my manual ads focused on the specific keywords I’m trying to rank for. The auto ads would serve the function of spreading the keyword net wide. The problem with low content books is that you don’t have a lot of profit to play with before you go into losses. I’m sure there are many strategies but this one has worked well for me in terms of getting books ranked organically and then making consistent sales without ads. I would hope people would experiment a little and see what works for them.
@@paulmarles thanks for the reply, I hadn't considered that they may conflict with each other. I'll do some experimenting as you say, it's no exact science and other variables come into play too 👍
@Paul Marles I have a manual ad running on one book with keyword targetting. Do you think running a manual ad with product targetting to an individual product may conflict also? I'm tempted to try it but don't want to mess up the current ad.
No, I don’t think it will, and I think product ads are a very good idea. They tend to be cheaper and get a significant number of sales. What I forgot to mention in the video is I tend to only target products with decent sales I.e. BSRs of 100,000 or less.
@@paulmarles The niche I'm looking at has a number of competitors with BSR's ranging from the low hundreds upwards, so I know I've probably picked a tough nut to crack. Would you try to compete with those best sellers or those around the 100,000 mark? And would you add more than one competing book to the campaign or only target one? Much appreciate you taking the time here!
hello Paul, thanks for sharing this video! I have a question... can i increase the bid on automatic ads? I launched a auto ads on one of my books but im not getting any impressions... im thinking that maybe the bid ammount is very low and i want to increase it but i dont find where i can do it...
@@paulmarles Where exactly in campaign settings can you change the Bid? I see how to increase Daily Budget, but no where to change the bid....Perhaps a screen shot? Thank you.
Hello, some guys suggest to launch some campaign for a single book with the same keywords. The reason is because every campaign work different from the other. Do you think it's a good idea or the campaing can fight with each other and go to max bid?
I don't run ads on competing books. Yes, the books would compete with each other. It may not cost you more but it would reduce your click through rate.
Really been enjoying this series, very helpful! Was wondering, can you use non-book keywords, too? For instance, with your mileage logbook could you target dashboard phone holders, console organizers, etc? TIA if you’re still responding a week later. :-)
I’m not sure why you would want to target those keywords. If someone did a search for those keywords would they be looking for a mileage log book? That’s if I understand you correctly! My advice is to keep keywords directly relevant to the product your selling.
I was thinking they might be. Don’t stores organize things like that together on displays? Or, maybe that’s for Amazon to do, not us. Guess I’m really reaching as I run out of keywords, lol. Glad I haven’t done it yet! Thanks for responding. :-)
Hi Paul, thank you for this vidéo. I’m learning more and more. Is there any method to know how much my competitors pay for a key word? And what keywords they bid for or not? ;)thx
No, I think Amazon would want to keep that a secret. You only get a general idea from the Amazon recommended bid amounts. The cerebro module of Helium 10 can give you an idea of sponsored ranks for keywords. But to get specific keywords they are bidding on I don’t think is possible.
i had coloring book bid 0.30$ work fine but when added it another one with higher bid and doesn't generate any impressions ? is there a problem with algorithm amazon
Hello! How can I add the impresions column to my ad report? I just launched my first ad at 20 cents per click, I want to track impressions, but it's not clear with the settings yet. Thanks in advance for your reply!
I've been watching and enjoying your videos for a couple of months and have just ventured into Ads with your help. I've just had my first bill from Amazon for Ads, very small just $5.00 but my bank has charged me £0.61 on £3.83, about 16%. This is going to mount up fast! Do you know a bank that does not charge, or charges less, or any way of minimizing these charges? I'm in the UK, thanks so much.
My ads bill is through a credit card. I don’t think there is a charge. I’m not an expert at banks so wouldn’t know which ones charge which for currency exchanges but that does sound a bit steep!
Hi Paul I don't think so if I check broad keywords and add negative keywords can make any s Sense The Best thing in ams is you don't pay nothing untill some one click on your ads even if you get 10000 impression per day
Yes, but if you’re getting clicks but no sales why continue to pay for those clicks. Also if you get lots of impressions and no clicks your ctr rate will be low and will affect your overall ranking.
Thank you for this video! Interestingly when I started using ads I thought that the suggested bid and the range Amazon gives you is kinda definitive and if I put a lower bid than the lowest in the suggested range I'll get no impressions. Only later I found out that that's not the case.
Hey Paul i hope you’re doing fine. I have +50 notebook in different niches the designs are pretty nice ( i could show you if you want ) but i got zero sells for months. Should i do an ads for them or wait and give them more time?

Either manually by going through the search pages for a keyword or use rank checking software - I use one provided by Helium 10.
