I recently rescued my old Master 512 from out of my Father's loft. Only needed the PSU recapped and a new battery pack installed. It's now fully working and upgraded with PiTube, Pi1MHz, Ethernet adapter and a USB mouse adapter.
I've seen a few Masters back in the day with 3 1.5v AA cells giving a total of 4.5v for the CMOS... Remember to add a blocking diode for early issue boards though, as these early issue Master boards tried to charge the batteries...
Try checking out Adrian's Digital Basement channel. He recently did a series of videos on restoring a BBC Master. He specifically had your keyboard issues and steps on how to solve them..
It's from 'Only Fools and Horses' (1980s BBC TV sit-com) : Trigger said "it's the same broom, but it's had 17 new heads and 14 new heads in 20 years" (so... 'is' it the same broom if both the heads and handles have been replaced?

@@MatthewNorthMusic Well as luck would have it, we don't need to do that in the UK ;)
nice video! I have a few Music 500 boxes and a music 5000. Need to get them going one day..
I've done a few videos about the music 5000 including the one that are built from scratch.
I hope you didn’t throw away those faulty keyboard switches, because they are quite easy to repair.
