In September 10th press briefing, Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, highlighted a recent incident where Israeli forces endangered UN humanitarian staff in Gaza. A fully coordinated UN convoy, en route to support a polio vaccination campaign, was stopped at Al Rashid checkpoint by Israeli forces, who quickly escalated the situation by pointing weapons at the UN personnel. The convoy was surrounded, rammed by tanks and bulldozers, and staff members were held at gunpoint for several hours. "The lives of our staff were put in danger," Dujarric stressed, calling on Israeli forces to respect international humanitarian law and ensure the safety of aid workers.
