I'm sad to hear that family writes people off. I am also a helper like Knate, i don't post on social media, but the man we helped had blood clots in his lungs from not healing properly after back surgery. We invited him into our home, got his car and license legal, and insurance. He has been utter joy in our lives. Now he is working one job, and has a live in job that can't wait to have him. He's been homeless since May 2023, he was evicted. His family wouldn't take him in. I didn't find him until after Christmas. He reached out for help on a page for neighbors helping each other for free. He lived with me feeding him until end of January 2024, when he was admitted to the hospital for lung blood clots. After that my husband decided we couldn't let him just die in his car. I wish i had help, but people are cold, and don't believe in each other. I believe God put us on earth to love each other and do good to others. One of my sons yelled at my husband for trusting a stranger. But we aren't sorry for saving his life. He has a new chance now, and he won't be homeless any more.

My family disowned my kids, grandkids, and me when my mom passed. They wanted to keep one of my granddaughters but she saw through their toxicity when her 10 year old sister was called an unwanted guest at Christmas. The 10 year old really wasn't that hurt over it so, Thanx fam for rejecting an innocent child at Christmas 3 months after her great grandma, who cared for her daily passed away. We are grateful for losing y'all, first step in the right direction and good riddanc to bad rubbish. Every Christmas since we lost my mother's siblings has been free of feeling like we aren't good enough cuz we KNOW we're way better and if we have nothing to give but love and respect we know we are blessed.
Yep. At the dinner after my father's funeral - my Gran, my favourite family member and role-model for womanhood, looked me in the eye and stated, "I guess this means you're not a [our last name] anymore." (I was 19 and hadn't married nor changed my name.) Then she turned away and didn't speak to me again until I could visit her in the dementia home and she didn't remember who I was. My bio-mother (who had divorced my dad a decade before and didn't go to his funeral) and brothers are still welcome in the paternal side of our family. The only sin I had committed against her and that side of my family was to be a female who lost her father in a patriarchal family. No one can hurt you to the extent that family can.
Sometimes the best help comes from strangers. Family have preconceptions of us that prevent them from helping, and we may have wounds that they won't acknowledge that prevent us from accepting their help. Thank you, Knate, for being the stranger that helps. ❤

Also, 'tough love' is very difficult when you are dealing with someone you love so deeply. My big Sister, my hero, was a lifelong drug addict, & I finally had to totally distance myself from her. It was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. I told her, "I can't help you anymore. There is nothing I can think of that will get you out of the snake pit you've fallen into." I would have given my life for her, but at that point, nothing I did, including offering myself up for her, would have saved her. I had to walk away.
My family uses me as the Black sheep, always projecting their actions on me. I should have never listened to any of them but have been changing my life, going to move . Thanks Knate and everone that help. Strangers are kinder than family in my experience!
I was homeless, addicted to heroin, living in the cold in OH and I prayed for Jesus to help me and now Im married, I live in CA, have a home, car, job with my own office. JESUS delivered me through other humans willing to help. Praise Jesus.

Suburban, spoiled, never struggled, happy wanderer christians who believe blindly because they've never had to ask questions about their lives or face evil, and then there's christians who have been standing at deaths door, or in league with evil and had nothing left (rock bottom) but found God and suddenly miracles occur in their lives. I say you wouldn't understand because when you're the latter you can not only feel his love but also his power. It's like a force is backing you. It's hard to explain unless you have been through it. I'm not saying you'll become president, but your life will do a complete turnaround with many events seeming to come out of nowhere. You could argue probability or circumstance but I believe faith is the reason. You have a right to your opinion though.

I never thought for a second you were playing anyone Michael. About a year ago I was 5 years into alcoholism. I was homeless in another city, lost within myself, and not in a good way physically or mentally. It was thanks to my family and them paying for a private hospital for me to start my sobriety. They don’t have much money but they rallied behind me. I am very fortunate for that. Unfortunately for some people, like you, they don’t have a family like mine. But we will be your family and support you to your next chapter. The best thing to do is look forward and not back. You’ve got this 💪🏻

As the poem says, "When you only saw one set of footprints in the sand is when I carried you." As long as this Gentleman doesn't give up on himself, he can accomplish anything he wants. Knate is walking beside him, letting him know that if he needs the help of another, he only has to ask. My Dad was my quiet partner throughout life. Knowing that he was always there for me, gave me the confidence to try things I wouldn't have done if I were alone. I would ask my Dad for advice but I never needed him to swoop in & save me. It’s a wonderful thing that this man’s trying to do I know this gentleman. Personally, I tried to help him last October and Nevada in front of Whole Foods supermarket 2023. One thing I discovered after speaking with him is he suffers from severe mental illness this is the problem today I believe, with homeless folks that their sickness is not purely discovered, but is looked at is just falling on hard times. I do wish him the best and hope that he can pull through this, but in my heart of heart I do know he does suffer from mental illness and he needs more than this sort of help. I hope someone can help these people under the circumstances and I do send blessings to the man for trying to help him. Good luck and God bless.
Not sure if you heard his backstory, but it sounds like he went through quite an ordeal (which is an understatement) where he lost his entire family and home in a fire while he was out for just a short amount of time. He probably has PTSD. That doesn’t mean he can’t be a productive member of society and that people don’t overcome their traumas in life. I don’t know what you did to try to help, but maybe he just wasn’t ready to begin healing his wounds. Maybe he just clicked with Knate or something. One never knows what motivates someone to finally take steps to overcome their hardships, but it looks like he’s sincerely trying. Michael deserves a shot. Thanks for giving him a shot too. Maybe he just wasn’t ready at that point.

This is how good sober people act. My father used to take them in the house and a couple of them became very successful with my father's mentorship. One day we went on a call and it was my friend Russ from childhood. We took him in and he became a top level plumber. He's got kids and a house. He's such a nice guy and he helps so many newcomers now. Russ is always involved in 12 step work. It doesn't have to be successful, but if it happens 1x in your life and you'll feel that something spiritual has touched your soul.
Family is not necessarily the people related to you by blood or marriage but people related to you by the heart. You can't choose your relatives but you CAN CHOOSE your FAMILY. Great job Knate...Michael..best of luck. Ive been there..its painful but the new family you are building will be the family you can count on and they can count on you.

Suburban, spoiled, never struggled, happy wanderer christians who believe blindly because they've never had to ask questions about their lives or face evil, and then there's christians who have been standing at deaths door, or in league with evil and had nothing left (rock bottom) but found God and suddenly miracles occur in their lives. About a year ago I was 5 years into alcoholism. I was homeless in another city, lost within myself, and not in a good way physically or mentally.
It was thanks to my family and them paying for a private hospital for me to start my sobriety. They don’t have much money but they rallied behind me.
I am very fortunate for that.
Unfortunately for some people, like you, they don’t have a family like mine.
But we will be your family and support you to your next chapter. The best thing to do is look forward and not back.

Sometimes, bridges are permanently burned but that doesn't mean a person can't rally themselves to action & proceed forward. As the poem says, "When you only saw one set of footprints in the sand is when I carried you." As long as this Gentleman doesn't give up on himself, he can accomplish anything he wants. Knate is walking beside him, letting him know that if he needs the help of another, he only has to ask.
My Dad was my quiet partner throughout life. Knowing that he was always there for me, gave me the confidence to try things I wouldn't have done if I were alone. I would ask my Dad for advice but I never needed him to swoop in & save me.
I wish this Gentleman the same destiny.

It’s a wonderful thing that this man’s trying to do I know this gentleman. Personally, I tried to help him last October and Nevada in front of Whole Foods supermarket 2023. One thing I discovered after speaking with him is he suffers from severe mental illness this is the problem today I believe, with homeless folks that their sickness is not purely discovered, but is looked at is just falling on hard times. I do wish him the best and hope that he can pull through this, but in my heart of heart I do know he does suffer from mental illness and he needs more than this sort of help. I hope someone can help these people under the circumstances and I do send blessings to the man for trying to help him. Good luck and God bless.
Not sure if you heard his backstory, but it sounds like he went through quite an ordeal (which is an understatement) where he lost his entire family and home in a fire while he was out for just a short amount of time. He probably has PTSD. That doesn’t mean he can’t be a productive member of society and that people don’t overcome their traumas in life. I don’t know what you did to try to help, but maybe he just wasn’t ready to begin healing his wounds. Maybe he just clicked with Knate or something. One never knows what motivates someone to finally take steps to overcome their hardships, but it looks like he’s sincerely trying. Michael deserves a shot. Thanks for giving him a shot too. Maybe he just wasn’t ready at that point.

This is how good sober people act. My father used to take them in the house and a couple of them became very successful with my father's mentorship.
One day we went on a call and it was my friend Russ from childhood. We took him in and he became a top level plumber. He's got kids and a house. He's such a nice guy and he helps so many newcomers now. Russ is always involved in 12 step work. It doesn't have to be successful, but if it happens 1x in your life and you'll feel that something spiritual has touched your soul.
