At the beginning of Prometheus one of the scientists asks the synthetic why he's wearing a suit if he doesn't need it, and he replies that it helps make humans comfortable if he wears one. So they don't need oxygen, but they still wear the equipment to help the humans cope.
I kind of like the idea that Synthetics need to do things like eat or wear suits just to act more human like. They don't NEED to do it, but otherwise, they'd end up stranded in the Uncanny Valley. Also, it might be psychologically healthier for the Synthetics to act more human and eat comfort food and such.
I hope that going forward there will be more Pre-Play sessions where appropriate and possible. It really helps with establishing expectations for the viewer in regards to potential content, intended tone, and the involved characters. Too often in many tabletop shows does it feel as though I am missing out on context for an inside joke, in all the worst ways, and I think this helps minimize that effect (whilst also getting me excited for what is to come).
I'm so grateful for Session 0. Its fascinating learning the basics of the game, and lets me enjoy subsequent episodes better because I can follow along better
1) A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. 1) An object at rest remains at rest, or if in motion, remains in motion at a constant velocity unless acted on by a net external force. 1) Energy cannot be created or destroyed in an isolated system.
The initial one was quoted in the movie "Aliens" ergo it is implied that - by that 'era' Artificial People are programmed with that, and it IS referred to as 'The First Law'. ...the only catch is; ARE the *rest* of the laws still the same, or has W-Y diverged from Asimov's ideas after that point?
Something else I really like about them is it gives us a good taste of what the rule set tries to do. I really like that because it lets me know if this is a format I want to personally buy into, buying books and such. I hope we see this on all the dice friends going forward, as a mechanics oriented person it’s low key my favorite episode. Which is not to say the rest of the episodes aren’t good, definitely a case of splitting hairs.
Its here nice, i saw the first half of this stream but missed the latter half. So glad I get to watch it now. Also engaging as is my right. Great job to all peeps involved, I can not wait for the next episode. Regards. Ps Cam is the best game mother I know.
I'm incredibly excited for this. Cam at the helm, great cast, and "all synthetics"? Heck yeah! Also, thank you for doing a session zero, like Drop to Drink! I really enjoy being able to see these along with the main campaign
I literally just had a dream a couple nights ago that involved a dice friends where everyone was playing robot characters. Cori was a player too, but the gm was Nelly for some reason. Anyway, this looks sweet
Can we take a moment about the opening music. Not only is it absolutely beautiful and sets the stage very well, but "Mirror within the Mirror" is an incredibly powerful invocation of a synthetic interacting with an alien.
I finished Heat Death a couple weeks ago, and am pumped for this. I both want to know, and love not knowing, what happened to the previous campaign's party.
If I was in this game, I would play a medic; with stats of Empathy-7, Wits-5, Agility-3, and Strength-2 (like Matt); and played by Toby Maguire (doing his Peter Parker character). Extremely empathic and smart, but pretty much useless in any combat scenario, except as a meat shield. And even then not a very good one because again, Strength of 2.
Oh man the hole story makes me want to make an unsettling video game with an intensely complex tutorial section, and then when you get to the "real game", it just puts you in a room with the instruction: "Do not lose the hole, do not let anything happen to the hole, do not let anything in the hole." Something Stanley Parable-esqe
I had a job once helping out an aging audio engineer testing the noise emitted from bars and such. While I also moved things around, my primary job was to make sure noone changed the setting on the speakers while he went around to the neighbours doing tests. Basically all I did was sit around trying to ignore the muffled pink noise blasting at 100 db. Good times.
According to their twitter, session one is stuck in TH-cam hell thanks to Universal Music Group. It will still be up on Twitch for the next month or so, but the podcast versions are up on wherever you listen to podcasts.
@@Winterpandacookies thank you for the info, I'll check twitch. Not really a podcast listener or twitter user. Hell, think I last logged onto my twitch account before there was even a whisper of pandemic in wuhan.
Ah, hole watch. Never did it myself, but it was a pretty common summer job for people just out of high school here. As I understand it, you watched the hole to make sure other people didn't fall into it. :P Boring as hell (usually people can see gaping pits in the ground themselves) but it paid very well, apparently.
The sole disappointment from this session zero was ragging on the 90s Kenner toyline, an integral part of my childhood and frigging awesome. 😭 It was supposed to have an accompanying cartoon but those plans were canceled; least it did have those sweet Dark Horse mini-comics.
Yay, more Alien D&D! I honestly don’t hear enough about the franchise, but hearing y’all talk about, explore, and nerd out about it makes me want to binge the movies.
I'm not comfortable with how ominous this music is. Just tell me it's aliens and put calm slow classical music with it and you've got me twitching and stressed out. T_T
I'm really glad that doing session 0 publicly stuck around after vampire
Hard same. :)
I dont typically watch the TTRPG stuff on LRR, but these session zeros are probably my favorite content.
It makes sense for systems that people aren't going to be familiar with.

I've not been this excited since about February last year.
I keep reading this comment and it keeps getting funnier. Thank you.
I love public session 0 now being a thing. Thank you to Jacob for introducing us to it and to all our Dice Friends for continuing it.

IIRC they said having a session 0 will depend on if the DM and players want to record one, but they do plan on having a session 0s every now and then.
I'm a fan just from that Aliens style opening. Good edit. good music.

As a summer student that worked in a mill, Cam's story was hella relatable.
That opening. Dang.

I just started rewatching the old alien campaign a couple days ago, sick coincidence! Super pumped!
Saying that Ash is "not a human name" instantly answered the question of why he's always 10 years old in the anime.
And why he is (or used to be) able to carry 70 pound Pokemon on his arm!
