  • It was that time again! Time for us to hit the road for yet another adventure. This time we took the road to Colesberg, a town located in the Northern Cape on the main N1 route from Johannesburg to Cape Town. We were amazed to find out how rich in history this place was! From Coleskop to the old buildings, monuments and artefacts in the town. As we drove through the beautiful streets lined with fabulous old houses and trees, we could sense the calm and relaxed vibe. I visited the hotel and museum and walked down some of the streets just to enjoy the atmosphere. Even the station on the outskirts of town still seemed to be in a fair condition. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #colesberg #northerncape #history #coleskop

Wow. What a great video of Colesberg. People here in Louisiana do not understand why I love South Africa. However, this video explains it. Baie Dankie, Greg Adams, a 9 time visitor to my beloved South Africa, Springfield, Louisiana, USA

So many times we miss these gems in our haste to reach our destination, staying on the main route going from one Ultra City to the next to feed our face while starving our soul.

During the Boer war they would often build an entire route out of the available rocks in order to get their supplies over various ridges. There's a number of those that can be found in Magaliesberg, which we use to hike in order to get their various lookout points. The history the Magaliesberg has in regards to Boer war is amazing. We were taken on a heritage tour hike in the one section of the range, where the battle of Nooitggedacht took place, and you can see in the rocks where the Boers shot at the English. There's also a kloof in the area where the English dragged up their canon in order to secure the area, which they lost to the Boers in the same battle.

I remember Colesberg so well! We always stayed at the LA Provence guest house and enjoyed delicious Karoo Lamb shanks at the Bordeaux Restaurant!! One of the historic buildings of Colesberg! On a warm evening we had a cold glass if wine in their garden overgrown with vine!! Heaven!!❤

Toverberg/Torenberg, farm Quaggasfontein was declared by Governer Van Plettenberg as the northern border of the Cape de Goede Hoop in 1788. Renamed in 1829 to Governer Sir Lowry Cole. Also the first dominee in 1814 was Voortrekker Erasmus Smit. Last "stop" for the Voortrekkers in 1835/6/7 before moved to the "Over Orange River". My Voortrekker oupa, Ockert Brits, b 1787, baptised his youngest child in the "Rietkerk [NG Church]. Colesburg or Philippolis always my stay over on road trips from Pietersburg.......Mooi video

Nice little town. I have never taken it in the way you have done. I have one fond memory of my army days in the town. Hiking back to Potch, we had a swim in the municipal pool and still made it on time back to base.

Hi you two! Thank you for another trip full of history. I will never again rush past that beautiful neat town to get to Cape Town, That hotel should have been named "The Grand Hotel"!
