all the P-Funk bands are INCREDIBLY TIGHT the amount of improvising they do live, the variations everytime a song is played, how the singer can say a word and the entire band will do exactly what he wanted how he wanted it. incredibly tight playing band, sound like they've been playing together for 80 years!
You know I think about that often. Imagine trying to have Soul Train today, it would be a mess and might last one season before everyone else says we want in. Black folks didn't realize how good it was to have their own lane.
I am from Mississippi. I have been listening to Rudy Ray Moore rhyming to music all my life. I remember James Brown’s “King Heroin” after Dolemite, and before “The Undisco Kid”. Before rap, we were Dolemiting to James Brown records at parties. We never stop rhyming to music in the Mississippi valley. When I heard NYC invented rap, it was like telling me Elvis invented rock and roll or Michael Jackson invented the moonwalk. I know who Little Walter was, and I know who Jeffery Daniels is.
today is a sad day for the funk Gary diaper man shider has just passed away from a long battle with cancer 5:15 pm. may he forever fly on in our memories as the great STARCHILD FUNK ON YOhOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
FUNKAY !!!!I remember jammin that back in early '78. The live version. I had a 73 Ford LTD 2 door. It came with an 8 track and was the bomb. I'd record from albums onto the 8 track. If i wanted to hear the same song again I'd just ride around some more,
Extra! Extra! Read all about it! She got a brand new thang makin' headline news! this is the first funkadelic song I remember from my chldhood... 5 yrs old in '76
if I could stop George and. his whole group from aging around this time p funk would have been immortal Glen and tiki would have never passed or Eddie would gave never got sick and passed on the 90s
@OrgenaII OK, this just in- Just found out, its D.Dixon and Chops Horns. they replaced the HornyHorns. members were Dixon on sax. Danny Cortez and Valarie Drayton on trumpets and Clay Lawry on trombone.
@s4ujxm Yes...I'll take your word for it. I knew he could play bass but never heard or knew when he was playing .This sounds like the original bassline on Funkadelic's ' Tales of Kidd Funkadelic' album .Thanks for the info !
cursedswordsman Hey there , darryl dixon on the sax, Valerie drayton and Danny cortez on the trumpet and clay lawrey on the trombone , i know this because darryl dixon left a comment somewhere on something i Said About this concert .. awesome🤯 they where from the band quazar with glenn goins and the drummer Jerome brailey... peace🤘🏼
Once and for all that's GLENN GOINS playing bass and he's using a pick he also played BASS on the QUAZAR album recorded with his brother KEVIN GOINS AND JEROME BRAILEY.
@@alexsteinbach6920 It was Glenn playing bass on this particular set. Listen and watch the video. During the live performances Glenn did play the bass for this particular set. Boogie was the mainstay on the bass during their live performance until Skeet came along in 1978. Boogie played bass as well as rhythm guitar and drums after Skeet joined the group.
@@s4ujxm how do you know this ? i watched this concert about a 1000 times ,but not one moment with glenn on a bass i only see glen with a rythm guitar when he does the swing down take, i must say i dont see boogie that much hahaha
@@alexsteinbach6920 Alex watch the you tube full video of this show. It's named P-Funk Earth Tour - Houston '77. The Undisco Kidd starts at 25:30 with the drum intro. Gary is on the wire so Mike is handling guitar work. George and the girls chanting and singing while Garry is freelancing not really playing guitar. At 37:35 George will say "Hey Glenn" and the bridge will change. Glenn played bass throughout this song he can be seen in the back directing the band as the song comes to an end.
I have the video as well. They do not play this song on this clip in its entirety. It segways into the song "call my baby pussy" After a little play on that George says "Hey Glenn" and Glenn is seen in the backround playing the bass and bringing the song to a close. If you watch this video you will see him nowhere in the vocals or playing guitar. He does an outstanding job playing bass on ths song. Remember Glenn played drums, guitar, and bass as well as vocals. go out and read up on him.
Only George and Prince and James Brown had control of their bands like this. Musicology 101 is in session with The Doctor teaching this lesson. Wannabee singers and musicians will be hit with the Bop Gun.
First and foremost.....take away the cotumes and special effects all that....these were HELLAVA musicians FIRST !!!!!!!!! That's how and why they were so tight and could do the improvising. Sure they were smoking the Chronic but dem jokers coudl JAMMMM
This is why I hate it when the New York City guys say that invented rap. I say B. S. This was a hit two years before rap was invented. Sugar Hill and the NYC guys lied. From Dolemite to The Undisco Kid, I have heard rap all of my 54 years.
I know better. NYC invented scratching records maybe. That, I had never heard before. I personally remember rhyming to music and beats from before first grade to sophomore year in college. NYC invented rap, like Elvis Rock and Roll, and Michael invented the moonwalk. They like NYC invented how to make the most money from the act. They did not invent the act. Scratching was the only thing new to me. That's the best I can honestly do, Russel156
@Carla08120812 Look again, George's band was James' old band. I like Prince. Jimmy, Terry, and Morris are among the best. They are still no Fred, Maceo, and Booty.
russel156 " sho" U right, no more Maceo, Fred, Booty, James,; yes James and Clinton's musical forms are connected by rhythm each form takes on different musically rhythm form and are different than day and night, all of which are funk. Those drums and bass at the intro🤯🎶🔥🔥I'm💀!
and the horns and bernie on the keys , intro is magical
The Funk dominated music from 75-81

This era was the absolute height of African American cool, when we were truly one nation and no outsiders.
You know I think about that often. Imagine trying to have Soul Train today, it would be a mess and might last one season before everyone else says we want in. Black folks didn't realize how good it was to have their own lane.

I like the faster live version with Glenn & Garry....
yup, should be for the 76-77 tour
@SSW2424 Sorry but Skeet was not with them in 1977. Skeet came on board in 1978. Check your history of the mob.
Mattie M boogie🤘🏼🤘🏼
alex steinbach Glenn Goins played the bass on this song.
@presstone1 Glenn on the bass.
Hey Timmyfunk1...To answer your question about how tight the drumming is on this. HELL NAW !!!!!!! Any tighter it would hurt. LOL
For all the true P-Funkers that follow each muscian to a tee like I do... I bet you didn't know that Glenn Goins was playing Bass in this video.
Yep I did. George called Glenn to do this bass riff for the ending!
That's definitely Starr-Mon on the studio version.
I've had this video for years. Where do you find Glenn playing bass? All I see is Boogie throughout.
I sincerely doubt what you're saying. I'll check my copy again, but I seriously doubt it.
Cordell Boogie Mosson on bass.
andreharrington17 It’s Glenn Goins on Bass.
DAMN! is that GC rappin? that's... BAD! yeah
B A D
It's hard to tell because of the camera angles, but it does seem as if he's playing the bass.
@terry47family the whole band had to some type of prodigy. can you get to that?
everytime she wiggle´s she makes a kid holla 4 mo´!!!

Who cares about major 7's,minor 9ths. 13ths aug.If it sounds good and is funky,JAMM IT !!!
Boogie played this song and a few others best when it came to bass . Rodney Skeet Curtis was right behind him though ! That tone is nasty !
The greates
This funk was way ahead of it's time.Currently it's the year 2020 and this song is still fire.

Word? TimKin is tht u, da P-funk historian?
Glen Goins didn't play bass. That's Rodney "Skeet" Curtis on bass.
Glenn did indeed play bass. He played some bass on the quazar album and I saw him play bass on 2 songs in Washington DC September 16th and 17th 1977
This is why I hate it when the New York City guys say that invented rap. I say B. S. This was a hit two years before rap was invented. Sugar Hill and the NYC guys lied. From Dolemite to The Undisco Kid, I have heard rap all of my 54 years.
Hip-Hop, NOT rap! Rapping is only one element of hip-hop!
Hip-hop elements are nation wide tbh it's as culturelap elements@@remiem-iw7uk
Sounds like Skeet to me.
don't step on my fonk!.
