What a versatile and nicely toned amp Jon. The gain was impressive and I especially loved the clean which is unusual for a Blackstar. You did a fantastic job demoing it too. 😃👍👍
Interesting amplifier. With great potential. This will always find its admirer. I know one person who uses only BlackStar amplifiers, the others do not recognize. He plays only heavy music on them. Thanks for the review, Jonathan! Everything was interesting, and in the best quality! Good luck, brother, to you and your loved ones! 👍👍👍👏👏👏🤝🤝🤝✌️👋
Even my Blackstar Fly3 Mini Bluetooth sounds very nice for it's size :), I like Blackstar tone a lot too! Have you ever used one? Very good for traveling :D. The camera focused on the nice Fender over there for a second :D
I'm pretty interested in this amp. Feature rich for all us bedroom players who think being a gigging musician sounds miserable. Then again, if I had Jon's chops...
I had an HT40 and I loved everything about it except its unreliability as a gigging amp; it would break down in the middle of gigs. Was sent back three times for repair; I ended up returning it. If Blackstar improved its internal construction techniques they would be the best. Their electronic designs are good; but they cut corners in manufacturing.
Excellent review Jon! I can see the pro's and con's of this pretty looking lightweight design. Cleans are really nice, but it does not really sound like a classic EL34-amp in the second channel. Imho it misses a bit focus in the mids. It could have a touch more gain as well. Pro's: a lot of features on the backpanel and the three poweramp options. Just checked the prices. There's a lot of competition in this pricerange. Not sure this will become a bestseller.
Without having listened to the explanation from Blackstar on the tones they were trying to achieve I initially thought the same. We automatically associate el34s with the marshall tone but in fact the power tubes contribute little to the tone, the circuit much more so. Blackstar say they were looking for the vox mid pushed type tones. It clearly does that to my ears. Nice departure but has its own thing going on too.
A really good sounding amp with plenty of possibilities, 50 watts, Sag, 2 watts, cab rig, a really low weight. Thanks for your exhaustive review... I'm trying to make up my mind between this EL34 combo or the 6L6...because I think that despite having a really fenderish tone, I think that the 6L6 would have a still more "fenderish" 60's clean tine, and the dirty channel would have a range between a slightly overdriven tone and a high gain tone. What do you think?

lol Thanks Michael✌♥
Love the sound of this amp. So natural the overdrive. What’s the USB jack for? Is it for presents or USB audio interface?
Thank you George..It's for the editing software for the cab sim as well as a interface connection ✌💚

Nice sounding Amp! And a very fat punchy sounding Strat. Japan Model?
yes!✌♥

Is the faceplate back-lite or is that just my imagination? oops you answered my question.
Lol✌️❤️
So this amp does not need a speaker load when recording D/I? Or am I mistaken? Thanks
Yes you are correct ✌️❤️
You must connect from the Cab Rig out
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Thanks Jon
Wonder if they got the name from James (the apostle) in the Bible
Who knows ✌️❤️
The name comes from the area in London called Saint James. That’s were some of the R&D was done on this amplifier.
@@robespinosa1978 It’s an area of Northampton where the Blackstar HQ is based. It’s about a two hour drive from London.
