snrbeanflicker Now that is a difficult one...E63S v RS6 v B5 Alpina. Well there is not a bad one there as they are all epic cars. The Audi has size as an issue as it is huge on U.K. roads. The E63S is wonderful but might have a slight hint of “taxi” about it going purely by looks and the B5 is an old design now but to choose...oh my goodness...well the most comfortable and they best sounding by a mile is the B5 which would be the most rounded to live with. The E63S most dramatic and beautifully equipped with effortless pace...the RS6 might be the most efficient and has a strong image. All are winners but my test drive order would be E63S, Audi RS6 and lastly the Alpina...and on the day, maybe the smaller, outstanding and wonderful sounding B5 might get the job....but I would WANT them all!!😃😃😃😃

So Sorry to hear that you lost your mum 😔 RS6 it just has the kudos and street cred' It has appeal from 9 to 90 years old. Something neither the M5 or E63 manages. Have to say the RS6 should be compared to M5 or E63. Then you can compare the M5 competition and E63s to the RS6 performance model when gets here later this year but probably early next due to Covid. For all the reasons you mentioned, I'd take the RS6 it really is the ultimate one car garage and the only car you'll ever need. Also it looks so much more interesting than the Beemer or the Merc. Go on tell us, you'd choose it too wouldn't you🤫 Its an RS6 Avant!

As someone whose swapped an M5 comp for the RS6, as a daily driver, the RS6 is in a different league... build quality wise, its really as tight as a vault... parts shared with its panamera, continental GT and Urus siblings... Skoda not so much.
Practical Estates every time for me and so this RS6 with motorcycle class acceleration is a winner in my book. Top speed figures are irrelevant for UK road use.
Ill be keeping my bike that does it in less than this and waiting for the model Y to hit our shores since ill actually be able to afford to run that at the cost of there about the loss of .4 of a second. This RS6 is a lovely car though!

Well I own an old c7 rs6 since new and went through all your deliberations on settings etc and after some considerable time realised Audi knows the car best, just leave it in auto on settings and everything is always available. As for fuel consumption it easily does low teens as well as 40 mpg on a freeway.../dual carriageway/ motorway, wherever you are from.. that's about 7.1 litres per hundred for the rest of you. I describe it as the swiss pocket knife of cars... as it does everything....and I won't sell it ever, the c8 for me just puts more electronics in a car and makes it that bit more sterile... so it's not for me...especially that vibrating throttle...seriously, not cool.. as for lag, in a big capacity v8 with twin turbos and mountains of torque, which is how you drive it daily, it just goes, you can easily overtake 7 cars in one move in a very short space of time... :-)
RS6 will always be one of the best...together with BMW and Mercedes but...for that amount of cash it’s all up to taste at the end...there are fans for the brands 😎 Great review Mr. PetrolPed 😊

Great video Mr Ped. I think it may come down to if you are an Audi or BMW fan boy. For me I am an Audi fan boy and drive an A6 so this RS is the ultimate family car.
For me dear boy, you hit the nail when you said, 'clinical' I get the feeling the 'grin factor' is too low to make it a viable option. Awesome numbers, but the lack of a jog wheel and too much reliance on the touch screen make it a no from me. (Not that I could afford one anyway, but hey I'm living my motoring dreams through your channel!!!)
I agree about the touchscreen comment. I have a 66 plate A6, and couldn't dream of not having a jog wheel and buttons. Although it looks amazing in there, touchscreens just give you zero feedback...
I owned the first C7 before I had an unfortunate incident. I then had the C7 performance. I now have the C8 with full dynamic plus steel coil suspension and ceramic brakes. It’s less shouty than the Performance but the rumble of the V8 is incredible, the styling is beautiful and the handling...oh the handling. The rear wheel steering is incredible. This 2 ton mammoth DARTS through corners. I’m happy

I loved this video and I know it's subjective, but looks matter and to me the Rs6 looks better than the M5 competition and the Audi design is just classier and more elegant yet sporty and menacing as well. Plus it's more practical and unique...I haven't driven either yet, but from the videos I've watched the Rs6 seems more enjoyable to drive as well. But if you combine the gorgeous design and the performance with the understated wolf in sheep's cloths design, the practicality, uniqueness, I would pick the Rs6 over the M5 competition..E63s would be my choice over the M5 competition as well...But I prefer the Rs6 to the E63s..Just looks better and from what I've heard drives better...Rs6, white Ferrari 488 Spyder, Huracan evo spyder, AMG g63, Rolls-Royce Phantom EWB are my favorite cars.
I permanently drive in RS1 full dynamic and sports mode in manual. I’m not normal. I had the V10 M5 2006. I enjoy being alive, however, so Quattro is the angel on my shoulder.
Sorry man but everyone know s that the rs6 is no longervthe king in this division, its competing with m3 and m4,s with less power. Stage1 upgrad before you can enjoy it.
Given my love of estate cars I think I’d have the RS6 over the M5 (shame there isn’t an M5 Touring) as well as the E63 which is just too lairy and loud for everyday driving on UK roads imo.
All the modern driving aids are only needed because the presence of screens / absence of real buttons requires eyes off the road so much more than in previous decades. I suspect I'll never want to buy a car built after about 2019.
Your comment about the mile munching reminded me of the thing I miss about the Audi A3's I have owned, getting to your destination fresh as a daisy! My old drive to work was 35 miles on mostly C class roads in North Yorkshire and my A3 did it brilliantly. I tried doing the same journey in my Clubman and it was just more work, more engaging but more work. I'm currently thinking of changing cars and this has reminded of one feature I miss of Audi ownership, and it's also not helping the decision!
Prefer the old model with the retractable screen, buttons to prod and knobs to twiddle. Think had the better balance between performance/fun and engaging drive (just going on reviews as haven’t driven the new one yet). At around £45k I would rather take a 16 plate, a VW Campervan & an Abarth 595 as a runaround and still have money left over.

She had a great following on here, and a son she could be very proud of, even if you did take her around corners a bit quick sometimes! I lost my Mum in 2008, and Dad in 2015. Miss their wisdom, Dads dry humour and Mums laughter immensely, even at my (old?) age of 59. Good review and the RS6 is a monster but (IMHO) thats too just too much car for UK roads, and is just begging to have some lowlife take a key to the side of it, or some unseeing k#£&@%*d back into it in a car park. Must have been a sod to turn around on that breakwater...!? Keep doing what you are doing, Pete. Best wishes as ever from up here on the Wirral.
Christ Pete, an RS6 around Mevagissey? Brave. MPG for that journey is impressive. I reckon I'd get not that much more from my Stinger. On my way home from work this morning at 3am I was quite naughty in patches and got 21 whereas the RS6 would be quite a bit lower I would imagine. But I'm not a fan at all of the interior, the RS6 has been a dream car for me and still is, but the climate touchscreen and that lip on the passenger dash are awful IMO. There is no M5 Touring though so it's this or the E63 AMG but I hate the exterior. Bah, screw it RS6 it is then, now where's that balaclava....."stick 'em up, this is a robbery"

E63 s estate ...slightly more expensive but sounds better n, no particular filter,its faster,has drift mode 😍and 4 wheel drive has a much better interior the only thing the rs6 has got is it looks better no doubt i would and am saving for an e63 s 2018 . Sorry bout your mum boss ☹️

Having owned both Audi and BMW, for me there is just something that i prefer about BMW But as you said they are both very solid well built cars that will happily cruise the miles away effortlessly and give you smiles when you want a little more " Fun " :) P.S. I've never driven something that outrageously powerful, but I sometimes get the same "clinical" feeling in my Golf R. It's just too easy to go way too quickly, as my recent whopper of a speeding ticket (I was passing/overtaking) will attest. This is why I've got an MX-5 on my list for a fun summer car somewhere down the line, with a manual of course. Sorry to hear about your Mum. Take care.

Firstly, Sorry for your loss - hope you are all ok. Re the cars, I've actually come out of an M5 comp... into an RS6... I think direct comparison, the M5 is quicker in a straightline - its angrier... even its gear changes are dramatic, in gearbox setting 3... The RS6 is much more practical to live with it, when you are not going for it, its comfortable, a better cruiser... but has lots of power, infinitely better built and designed... Steering is abit light for me, if im honest, my Old B9 RS4 had the best Audi steering ive tried... but as a total package as a daily driver, I think the RS6 is less of a compromise.
Really enjoyed your commentary. Quick question. Why comfort mode in suspension even when you’re attacking the B roads? The ride is less planted and more body roll when aggressively exiting the corners. Sorry to hear about your Mum. I drive to live in the present. I drive because I can giggle like a school girl as I negotiate chicanes (roundabouts).
@@PetrolPed yeah Aussie roads don’t go through the freeze / thaw cycle. I’m originally a New Yorker. Exploded tyres on my 2006 M5 on the Grand Central Parkway. Today my daughter commented on the bumpy ride in RS1. Put it in comfort and she was amazed at the difference. I lasted 4 minutes before I had to firm it back up.

May be you should have taken the fiat 500 that featured on vintage voltage around those very tight streets in Devon. i would have been bricking my self driving that car around those streets. but i loved the journey thanks
Hi Pete, undoubtedly the RS6 delivers epic driving performance and it is brilliantly engineered. However - to my taste - the „want factor“ has gone down because of the disappointing interior. By throwing out all the beautifully crafted knobs it has lost its premium feel and as you said it is not so practical while driving. And the exterior design is somewhat overblown, especially the massive part around the exhaust pipes. The 22 inch wheels are too big, the proportions aren‘t correct anymore I feel. The car has too many edges, beads and indentations meant to look better but it doesn’t - at least I feel. I‘m sure there are Audi fans who will disagree, fore example the editors of Auto-Bild, the sister magazine of Auto Exprees, they regard Audi’s chief designer Marc Lichte as God. But I don‘t like his design language. If you ask me, the BMW M5 has got far better looks. So if I had the money and would need such a big car, I would definitely go for the BMW.
I think it's all about personal preference at price bracket Question when will manufactures call it a day in the production of cars like the RS6 there are plenty of them out there all under different manufactures

I’m a proud owner of an 95 Audi RS2 and one thing i can tell you about living with one is, you need very deep pockets, they love eat all your hard earned wonger. God knows how much that beast will go through, mind you can’t imagine these lasting as long as my RS2 ..... not with all the electronics they rely on. 👌👌👌
Those lanes in Mevagissey were not made for cars. I've never been down to Cornwall or Devon, or anywhere on the south coast. I'd love to though, especially as I support the Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth but I think I'd hire a camper/small motorhome as with having Fibromyalgia (aka I'm a spoonie) my energy levels aren't very high. I'd rather spread the journey over 2 days even with two of us to drive. Isn't Monkey World down there too? Mevagissey looks beautiful.
Talking of the fuel economy of fast cars, my Jaguar XJR with a 5 litre supercharged V8 producing 550bhp recently did (and regularly does) 38mpg on the motorway at an average speed of 75mph in normal drive mode over 165 miles. I think that is remarkable.

I’ve been a member of BOTB since 2002 and entered many of their competitions. Sadly never won anything to date, although seen the videos of winning members. On reflection, it’s a bit of a mugs game really and wouldn’t recommend. Audi’s have come on a long way since the days of basic models with no luxuries included.
What happened to living and doing daily things tho haha, I am either getting this car or a G wagon, but the reason this car isn't on top of the list is because it's huge, I wanted to see daily things, driving round town, 30 miles an hour...parking the car up in a car park, going into a multi storey car park, things as such! Things people do daily!

Lovely car and as you say is big and can do pretty much anything, probably have to choose carefully where you park at the supermarket maybe have to take up two spaces also problematical if other large cars like S U Vs are near I fear lots of damages could occur while you are shopping. Obviously those are negative points but valid never-the-less. Love the colour and the style and the stance. I suppose if you can afford to buy the car then you are not bothered about curbing those alloys although it would bother me!!! Thirsty car compared to your Minis and possibly your S4 too, still just use it and enjoy it Mrs Ped obviously did. See you on the next one Pete.

Traction off, sports diff, manual mode bouncing the rev limiter with window open, will avoid any type of that sort of adjectives.

Given my love of estate cars I think I’d have the RS6 over the M5 (shame there isn’t an M5 Touring) as well as the E63 which is just too lairy and loud for everyday driving on UK roads imo.

All the modern driving aids are only needed because the presence of screens / absence of real buttons requires eyes off the road so much more than in previous decades. I suspect I'll never want to buy a car built after about 2019.
Your comment about the mile munching reminded me of the thing I miss about the Audi A3's I have owned, getting to your destination fresh as a daisy! My old drive to work was 35 miles on mostly C class roads in North Yorkshire and my A3 did it brilliantly. I tried doing the same journey in my Clubman and it was just more work, more engaging but more work. I'm currently thinking of changing cars and this has reminded of one feature I miss of Audi ownership, and it's also not helping the decision!
With the big german 3 it's about personal preference I love audis over Mercs and bmw audi is a true sleeper less is more
Prefer the old model with the retractable screen, buttons to prod and knobs to twiddle. Think had the better balance between performance/fun and engaging drive (just going on reviews as haven’t driven the new one yet). At around £45k I would rather take a 16 plate, a VW Campervan & an Abarth 595 as a runaround and still have money left over.

I lost my Mum in 2008, and Dad in 2015. Miss their wisdom, Dads dry humour and Mums laughter immensely, even at my (old?) age of 59.
Good review and the RS6 is a monster but (IMHO) thats too just too much car for UK roads, and is just begging to have some lowlife take a key to the side of it, or some unseeing k#£&@%*d back into it in a car park.
Must have been a sod to turn around on that breakwater...!?

Christ Pete, an RS6 around Mevagissey? Brave. MPG for that journey is impressive. I reckon I'd get not that much more from my Stinger. On my way home from work this morning at 3am I was quite naughty in patches and got 21 whereas the RS6 would be quite a bit lower I would imagine. But I'm not a fan at all of the interior, the RS6 has been a dream car for me and still is, but the climate touchscreen and that lip on the passenger dash are awful IMO. There is no M5 Touring though so it's this or the E63 AMG but I hate the exterior. Bah, screw it RS6 it is then, now where's that balaclava....."stick 'em up, this is a robbery"

I'm sure that the RS6 on the starting grid at Goodwood would have worried a few of the "performance sports cars" that were lined up behind it.
Even though I do like the Biblical RS6, I'm still erring towards the M5, even though there is no "estate" version.

E63 s estate ...slightly more expensive but sounds better n, no particular filter,its faster,has drift mode 😍and 4 wheel drive has a much better interior the only thing the rs6 has got is it looks better no doubt i would and am saving for an e63 s 2018 . Sorry bout your mum boss ☹️

But as you said they are both very solid well built cars that will happily cruise the miles away effortlessly and give you smiles when you want a little more " Fun " :)

I've never driven something that outrageously powerful, but I sometimes get the same "clinical" feeling in my Golf R. It's just too easy to go way too quickly, as my recent whopper of a speeding ticket (I was passing/overtaking) will attest. This is why I've got an MX-5 on my list for a fun summer car somewhere down the line, with a manual of course. Sorry to hear about your Mum. Take care.

Firstly, Sorry for your loss - hope you are all ok. Re the cars, I've actually come out of an M5 comp... into an RS6... I think direct comparison, the M5 is quicker in a straightline - its angrier... even its gear changes are dramatic, in gearbox setting 3... The RS6 is much more practical to live with it, when you are not going for it, its comfortable, a better cruiser... but has lots of power, infinitely better built and designed... Steering is abit light for me, if im honest, my Old B9 RS4 had the best Audi steering ive tried... but as a total package as a daily driver, I think the RS6 is less of a compromise.
Really enjoyed your commentary. Quick question. Why comfort mode in suspension even when you’re attacking the B roads? The ride is less planted and more body roll when aggressively exiting the corners. Sorry to hear about your Mum. I drive to live in the present. I drive because I can giggle like a school girl as I negotiate chicanes (roundabouts).

@@PetrolPed yeah Aussie roads don’t go through the freeze / thaw cycle. I’m originally a New Yorker. Exploded tyres on my 2006 M5 on the Grand Central Parkway. Today my daughter commented on the bumpy ride in RS1. Put it in comfort and she was amazed at the difference. I lasted 4 minutes before I had to firm it back up.
As your only "criticism" of the RS6, is that it's a large car for everyday use, Does that make an RS4 the ultimate ???? would appreciate your views...

May be you should have taken the fiat 500 that featured on vintage voltage around those very tight streets in Devon. i would have been bricking my self driving that car around those streets. but i loved the journey thanks

Hi Pete, undoubtedly the RS6 delivers epic driving performance and it is brilliantly engineered. However - to my taste - the „want factor“ has gone down because of the disappointing interior. By throwing out all the beautifully crafted knobs it has lost its premium feel and as you said it is not so practical while driving. And the exterior design is somewhat overblown, especially the massive part around the exhaust pipes. The 22 inch wheels are too big, the proportions aren‘t correct anymore I feel. The car has too many edges, beads and indentations meant to look better but it doesn’t - at least I feel. I‘m sure there are Audi fans who will disagree, fore example the editors of Auto-Bild, the sister magazine of Auto Exprees, they regard Audi’s chief designer Marc Lichte as God. But I don‘t like his design language. If you ask me, the BMW M5 has got far better looks. So if I had the money and would need such a big car, I would definitely go for the BMW.

Averaging 24 mpg would be ok if it didn't have a 16 gallon tank, it should be 20 gallon at least to make it practical in my opinion
I’m a proud owner of an 95 Audi RS2 and one thing i can tell you about living with one is, you need very deep pockets, they love eat all your hard earned wonger. God knows how much that beast will go through, mind you can’t imagine these lasting as long as my RS2 ..... not with all the electronics they rely on. 👌👌👌
Those lanes in Mevagissey were not made for cars. I've never been down to Cornwall or Devon, or anywhere on the south coast. I'd love to though, especially as I support the Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth but I think I'd hire a camper/small motorhome as with having Fibromyalgia (aka I'm a spoonie) my energy levels aren't very high. I'd rather spread the journey over 2 days even with two of us to drive. Isn't Monkey World down there too? Mevagissey looks beautiful.
Talking of the fuel economy of fast cars, my Jaguar XJR with a 5 litre supercharged V8 producing 550bhp recently did (and regularly does) 38mpg on the motorway at an average speed of 75mph in normal drive mode over 165 miles. I think that is remarkable.

I’ve been a member of BOTB since 2002 and entered many of their competitions. Sadly never won anything to date, although seen the videos of winning members. On reflection, it’s a bit of a mugs game really and wouldn’t recommend. Audi’s have come on a long way since the days of basic models with no luxuries included.
What happened to living and doing daily things tho haha, I am either getting this car or a G wagon, but the reason this car isn't on top of the list is because it's huge, I wanted to see daily things, driving round town, 30 miles an hour...parking the car up in a car park, going into a multi storey car park, things as such! Things people do daily!

A superb video of a fine car in a difficult week. I would buy one without hesitation but might end up choosing a B5 Alpina Touring instead. The size of the RS6 is the problem...bit choosing which car is mighty difficult. On size...the B5 wins..but what a problem to choose! Lovely car and as you say is big and can do pretty much anything, probably have to choose carefully where you park at the supermarket maybe have to take up two spaces also problematical if other large cars like S U Vs are near I fear lots of damages could occur while you are shopping. Obviously those are negative points but valid never-the-less. Love the colour and the style and the stance. I suppose if you can afford to buy the car then you are not bothered about curbing those alloys although it would bother me!!! Thirsty car compared to your Minis and possibly your S4 too, still just use it and enjoy it Mrs Ped obviously did. See you on the next one Pete.
