Changing dialogues to fit their narratives because they thought it was fun to do (aka changing "ladies and gentlemen" (litteraly said in english in the jp version) to "ladies and nonbinary folks", they keep it because the english voice director thougt it was funny. Their job is to adapt correctly something, not to make ghost stories dub. Most anime adaptation litteraly have the author be there during the voice acting performance to explain to the voice actors the characters they voice.. I don't know what wrong with america, but even here in europe, France, there is japanese representative doing the voice casting and the voice actors watched the anime in japanese to be able to replicate something of the same taste.
