Very smooth, clean and natural-sounding microphone. It suits your voice really well, and I agree with your statement about not wanting to pull out your SM 7B any more.

    My favorite all-rounder mic.
The filtering really works well for heavy radio broadcast-style processing.

In fairness to Bandrew, you didn't dramatically throw the empty box across the room and fall off your chair. I'm extremely impressed with this as a condenser. I consider all my mics all-arounders (with the exception of my MKH-416), although quite different from each other - SM7B, RE20, TLM-103, OC818, NT-1. The only one I'm not in love with is the NT-1. I use them almost exclusively for spoken word, but not necessarily all for the same type. RE20s and SM7Bs for multi-person podcasts, MKH-416 and TLM-103 for voiceover/narration, and OC818 for it's cool features that I don't use but had to experience for myself. This seems to sit between the SM7B and the MKH-416, both of which I'm in love with for different reasons. I'm not wearing headphones, but I honestly couldn't hear a difference between this mic and the SM7B, which is really impressive.

This kind of "condenser posing as dynamic" mic are my favorites. I use a beta 87-A both live and in the studio with excellent success. Incredibly underrated kind of microphone, those electret-condenser only takes 6V of phantom power, so they are never under-powered even with less than stellar phantom power on the gig, which can technically be as low as 12 v sometimes! Incredibly tight pattern and great rear rejection. Gorgeous proximity effect too with the super-cardio pattern permitting amazing microphone technique while hand-held by a professional vocalist. This microphone is very close to it in sound! I might consider it for the studio as it does have higher specs (hopefully considering the Beta 87-A is 400 CAD).

Fantastic video, very informative and fair. To me, it sounds like a $20 mic, so I was surprised when you said it was close to $600. Though, mics always sound substantially different on your channel VS other channels, I'm not sure why that is.

My voice is also rather naturally full...

I don't find that to be the case at all. I think his voice makes every mic sound like a premium mic.

Lauten Audio is a great company and I really appreciate that they are trying to be different, but at the end of the day, they are a new company with lesser experience in building mic. Like internally build pop filter, I do understand why they want us to use the windscreen. But look at more experienced company like Neumann and their KMS 105, they have 3 stage internally built pop filter, which also acts as a "spit guard" to protect the capsule. Minor tweaks like this can make their mic monumentally better. Though the sound with the clown nose on is not bad, if you remove it, it sounds alot better. But then again, this mic is not build solely for spoken words, it's made to be the all rounder mic but master of none, so perhaps, internally build pop filter might alter the sound signature when recording instruments. What I wish to see from them is making a signature version of this at a higher price, but use their 38mm capsule instead of this 32mm capsule, and have a 3 stage build in pop filter to handle plosive and also act as a spit guard, make the top part easily removable so we can change the pop filter (like the BCM 104), and much like their Eden and Atlantis (Forward, Neutral and Gentle mode) but instead try to reach as close as possible to Forward: Sound signature of the ELA M 251 (like the 3U Audio GZ-251 which is FET Base), Neutral (follow the sound signature of the U87), and Gentle (try to make it sound like the SM7B or U67). I have the Eden bought it because of the hype, but after testing it against all my other mic, I noticed that Lauten Audio microphone generally don't sit well in a mix with exception of their Clarion mic. I think Lauten need someone like David Bock, like how Universal Audio have the Bock 251,187 and 167. To tune their mics. It won't sound the same, but it will be a familiar sound and with their 38mm capsule, I think we can get something really unique. Just my 2 cents. Everything about Lauten Audio is great, except for their sound signature. They are just trying to be different for the sake of being different and not create something better.

Don't forget, you need a really good pre-amp for the SM7B. But I might remember him saying this needed a lot of gain too. Ironically, I'm currently on the toilet. I could never think of just putting my SM7B away. That is the most forgiving microphone in the world. It's definitely an interesting take - an end address condenser with phenomenal off-axis rejection. Please don't make me buy this. Hopefully I can find some bad reviews.

I'm listening with my ER4SR, which are usually good at revealing small differences, but even then, I admit I wouldn't feel confident picking which mic is which in a blind test! That's so weird, considering they're not even the same _type_ of mic!

Isn't 15DB quite noisy for an ordinary condenser mic? Even the Rode K2 tube is rated at on 12 if memory serves. You'd want to put it in a really decent preamp for that amount of rated noise.

Toughest part of shooting videos without headphones is you can't monitor for your mic technique.
At the same time...I can't take them out as it would be dishonest.
So...damned if I do kinda situation

    • @annekedebruyn7797
      @annekedebruyn7797 ปีที่แล้ว

There is no extra (foam) pop filter in front of the capsule which many broadcast mics have (both dynamic and condenser) which is probably why there is a lot of plosives even with the foam filter it comes with.
But with proper mic techniques at least in voice over work, you'd probably never encounter an issue with that.
      It's great for instruments tho!
Some people who mainly do talking have modded the RE20/PR40 popfilter to mount on the mic to deal with this in case you want to talk directly into it for some reason.
