This is great! So many people move to the country and woods then complain because wild animals are in their yard! I think it is a blessing! It does not look to me that tyhe moose is playing. It is not aggressive but it's not playing!
You can run a moose anywhere you like, but it will go where it wants. Typical behavior of a yearling. The mother runs them off preparing for another calf. For a month or two they're not sure what to do. They'll hang in people's back yards, Walmart parking lot etc. They're curious and harmless, not to mention adorable. He or she will figure things out according to natures plan and will be eating pond slime in no time.
Posted on June 9th.... AKA - the PEAK of bug season. I'll bet 10 to 1 they have one of those propane powered mosquito traps that clear the bugs off of large areas (like 1/2 acre or so) and the moose has figured this out. Just a theory, but here in Ontario its not uncommon to see them out by the roadsides in bug season trying to get some relief because there is a bit more wind along roadways. I have even seen moose at times where I could pull over within a few feet of them and they wouldn't budge.
this moose seems very comfortable with people and the dog , could it be that it has had good interaction in the past - it must be looking for something remembered , they should have at least given it an apple ?! kinda sad ! at least a friendly greeting and a pet !
At this age a moose is expelled by and from their mother and at this time they are still social and are used to someone around them all the time and some tries to bond with anything even a predator like this husky.. This one would not have done anyone any harm, it only wanted contact..
Too bad that lovely boy/girl wasn't on a longer "harness" and chain so they could romp around. The moose probably wondered why the dog didn't have the same freedom he has.

Aw the poor moose is just lonely:( And that poor dog should not be chained up like that! My Husky is happy and well behaved in the house because we WALK him and take him for runs. You can't just chain a dog in a yard! That is a HORRIBLE way to treat that beautiful dog!
Maybe... just maybe that dog is chained outside because the owners don't want their dog chasing wildlife. It's wonderful to think that all dogs can just wander around at their leisure but the reality is that not all dogs can be trusted/trained to stay in their own yard... and huskies have a tendency to want to run, it's in their blood.
Elizabeth Adams ...Where I live, it's illegal for any dog to roam free, too many bad things happen. They passed a leash law years ago. Some moose like people. This one is probably depressed because mom has run her off....but later one, when her mother's new calf is bigger, she'll be welcome back. The females stick together. By hanging around with humans she does protect herself from predators. It's very possible that she was chased into human company by a bear or a pack of wolves.
+MegaFloyd100 This isn't far from where I live and there are a lot of moose, and it's not unusual to see them in the towns, or even in the city now and then. The young ones are a nuisance more than anything and our DNR officers (Dept of Natural Resources) chase them back into the woods so they don't get themselves into trouble and get hurt. Adult moose are an entirely different story all together. Normal height at the shoulder can be 2.5 meters (over 7 feet) and over 3 meters to the top of the rack (horns) and can weigh up to 1500 lbs (almost 700 kg). They can be very unpredictable and if provoked, or in season for a mate, will charge/attack just about anything and if they succeed in knocking it down they will stomp it to pieces.. not kidding at all.

If you let your dog run around here (I live within 1/2 hour drive of St. Phillippe) it very soon becomes dinner for the coyotes or joins them, or gets hit by a car on the road, attacked by a bear...and the list goes on. Absolutely nothing wrong with chaining a dog outside as long as it is well looked after. Now that doesn't mean it stays outside all day and all night every day 365 days per year, it comes in at night as most do. Not sure what you have for wild life where you're at, but here the best way to loose a dog here is leave it outside over night.
