But according to Nandikeshwara' Abhinaya Darpan, Nritta is devoid of expression. Isn't the base of Indian classical dance based on this text. Of course this performance is wonderful but invoking expression in Nritta (which Jatiswaram constitutes) is customization and not original (which is great and I don't have any issues with it). But Nritta technically doesn't have expression, Nritya is the expression component. What do you think?
@@trinayanakaushik811 sure. you are right. But what the dancer is portraying here isnt abhinaya. she isnt expressing a narrative. she is showing bhava. You cannot dance with a deadpan face. She is conveying the bhava of ulhas or joy and this isnt done by means of employing deliberate mudras or directly intended facial expression. I doubt we can interpret the division of Nritta and Natya to mean that in nritta will have no expression. abhinaya and bhava are distinct from each other. they cannot be equally translated as expression. If we follow Natyashastra , the goal of the performing arts is bhava uttpatti or to generate bhava through vibhava (determinant states) and anubhava or consequent states. Abhinava Gupta also elaborates the same principle. No art is meant for mere entertainment. Thus, nritta pieces too must evoke bhava, through use of body movement, costume, and facial expression.
abhinaya is one way of creating rasa and bhava. but not every use of facial expression or bodily movement is abhinaya. even without abhinaya, rasa and bhava are the goals of all art. abhinayam can be used to generate rasa through conveying a narrative on stage. But even when there is no narrative, bhava is crucial. thus, use of the smile, the eyes, the costume etc are crucial even in pure dance pieces.
@@trinayanakaushik811 This is not at all what Padma Subramaniam would say and she’s also very well-versed in Theory! Of course there should be bhava in nritta how boring it would be otherwise! I don’t agree with your statement!
Apoorva Jayaraman, there is no more harmonious dance on TH-cam than yours. I have seen many different Indian traditional dances. Synchronous movements of arms, legs, eyes - it's quite difficult. Many simply do not understand that it is very difficult to bring the dance to this level of synchrony and speed, while not forgetting that the movements must also be beautiful. Sometimes I rewatch - I'm your big fan.
This again is a clip of this marvellous dancer. She again succeeds in displaying her charm, fine bodily and facial expression of emotions and to show a deep pleasure and diciplined pure joy. You cannot but love her(dancing)!Rasa!! I wait with great longing for more of this video's. She is one of the best!! Hans
@Maysoun Beate your comment is arrogant and very crude also not hers ! In fact it is very humble on the contrary. (She is American and says Indian girls have the most charming faces in the entire world! (What’s wrong with that?))
I love the dance, but couldn't watch it through. The camera shot switching was jumping more then she was. How can anyone enjoy her movement when you can't get a proper fix on her position for more then 3 seconds!
My grand daughter 5 years old, loves your dance very much, thanks to the singer whose mellifluous voice captivates all
Lovely! she knows nrtta is not devoid of bhava! Perfect anga shuddha beautiful energy!

I think you understood exactly the opposite of what she meant!!!
