- In this video I show you how to adjust the gear linkage in my 1969 Mercedes 280SE. I also show you how to install the linkage bushing in a W108 Mercedes. Then something happens that could end this project!!
Our family had a beautiful blue 1973 Mercedes 240 when we lived in Singapore from new. The Malaysia factory was only a few hundred miles away. The Mercedes was cheaper than a Ford in Singapore.I have fond memories shifting the manual while driving with my Dad. The car was a right hand driver as the law was drive on the left side. What a car. Every time I get a new Mercedes it brings me back. Mercedes are such a beautiful car as they have such character. They are worth every ounce of effort to maintain them as they reward the driver every time you drive.
Head gasket is not a big deal.
You can change timing chain guides, tensioner while it’s apart and be done in one Saturday afternoon.

The reason for the coolant going though the throttle is to keep the flap from being frozen stuck during the winter season. It doesn’t happen often but the winter season especially in the northern parts can cause the throttle body flapper to be stuck open causing run aways and limp mode issues.

When I saw the screw driver slip I knew from past experience just where it was headed. I hope it healed well. Janice isn't finished with you yet by the look of it. Could be a head gasket from sitting so long maybe if it's just that no major damage just gasket wouldn't be the end of the world. Just more content lol! Can't wait to see her on the road.
Let her build pressure with the tank full and see what happens. At best the hose that cools your throttle body will blow up if there’s a head gasket problem, but to be honest, I don’t think you have one. I just think there’s a lot of junk in the radiator from sitting

So bizarre seeing someone work on a 69 Merc. Especially in the U.S. I had that same exact car but in kind of an olive color when I was stationed in Germany. I haven’t even thought about that car in years because you just never see them.
I think that smoke coming out of the radiator cap, is a blown head gasket.

Hate to say it Mike but you have a leak of combustion gss. That smoke from the radiator is clear ss day and only means one thing. May not be head gasket could be a number of things and being German I am not sure if it has sleeves or not hopefully it is just a head gasket and not anything else atleast the gasket is easy and cheap
She sounds good but I don't like the steam coming out of the radiator cap I think unfortunately it's a head gasket

Never use 50/50 percent antifreeze always use full strength and then add distilled water if not drinking water, I've always use drinking bottled water myself.
I quite agree, test the antifreeze mix it stronger if needed and (use a guage to determine) and distilled water is a great thing,,, cleaner and less crap in it..

Bypass that stupid heated throttle body, serves no purpose but heating the incoming air to rob your engine of horsepower for emissions? Good luck, Mike.
