The undertone of a bronzer is everything. I’d much rather have to use a light hand and have the right undertone!
I’ve started noticing recently that brands make neutrals (browns) lighter by pulling out the red and leaving the orange/yellow. These days I get a better look with a careful teeeeny application of dark red-based browns than the bronzers/shadows that are ostensibly meant for my skin tone.
I wish I wasn't so terrified of blush. I am keenly interested in these Patrick Ta ones, though! As a fellow art school grad, I always enjoy hearing your thoughts on color theory.

I had a sample of Chai in the old Bite lipstick formula; on me (brunette, hazel eyes (grey w/ring of brown around pupil), very light skin w/similar undertone to HLP) it went more terracotta/90s brown lip. On someone else I know of with more deep medium skin it went more mauve.
Yeah I don't know if it is the base color of my lips, but Chai went very 90s terracotta on me. too. Which isn't my vibe at all even though I like the way it looks on others.
I love a statement lip! I love almost any lip color that is described as berry or wine and have never been a big fan of fire engine red. I love all the color theory stuff in your videos. When I was looking for a summer bronzer I totally bought the deep(not actually that deep 😒 Ulta) shade b/c it has a neutral undertone . Despite being slightly darker (my foundation is in the light/medium to medium range), the colors that works on you always look great on me too. As I think back on it, I have always preferred some purple tones in my lipstick and eyeshadow. I have a neutral undertone but I prefer cooler colors in my clothing and I guess have been subconsciously doing it with my makeup as well.
I find color theory in makeup so fascinating because Chai reads so red on you, but on me it reads so brown. For me the "wearable red" shade from Bite was Verbena, which they did not bring back in the new bullet lipsticks RIP lol
That’s interesting. I’m a muted neutral, with a lot of superficial redness, and any lip color that has a color then brown behind that color nearly always looks muddy on me. I can’t wear saturated reds either, but have to use differently based colors to get something that acts (doesn’t have to look the part,) like a red might, if reds worked on me. Oranges and magentas are better on me than any pure red, by far, but the most naturally suitable “daily reds” are plummy-raisiny-berry.
@@agresticumbra That's interesting! I like wearing oranges a lot too, but they're definitely a statement color on me. Plummy shades tend to go vampy on me really fast.

For the life of me, I have yet to find a red lipstick that I would be willing to walk out of my house with!...I am light skinned, brown eyed Italian too so wonder if Chai would work....love watching/listening to you...quite the character!!...very entertaining and enjoyable!!
Kackie, yes i learned that many years ago , blue red, true reds, turn fuscia after a couple of hours, not good. Now, If i find a brick red , I look like a lady. Thank you for all the info.

Yes. Im opposite of You - my skin is warm and little bit muted. I also can't wear true red. It's to much. My red is more bricky and toned down. F. e. I love Lisa Eldridge - but her reds are to much (and also to pigmented) for me. Maybe I can try Velvet Dragon, but I have similar lipsticks. I have Velvet Muse (not red, nude) from her - it's very nice, but little bit gray for me. I was hoping the new Kitten mischief (also not red, more like nude) would be good - and it is nice but I was hoping for something more warm and peachy - for me it's more rose wood. I just want to say - yes - it depends on our skin undertone - so I prefer shopping in stone shops and try everything before buying.
I feel like we just have to KNOW about the Glossier bronzers even if it’s at that point in summer where everyone has found their bronzer? Lol idk 🤷♀️ (I’m still living for the “blonzers”!! The middle shade specifically)

I generally buy what you do, just in the cooler version of the shade haha! I cant wait to go to Sephora and get a Patrick ta blusher combo!
I’m neutral to cool and when I get a tan I go golden. If a complexion line leans cool I can do a warm shade, and concealer I usually lean pink because it brightens.
The vr lipstick is flattering on my medium/olive skin tone... my problem is that if I do anything- drink some water, blow my nose- suddenly I have red lipstick all over my chin. I'm still trying to figure out how to get it to work for me.

Totally agree! I’ve found red toned bronzers look best on me and those are usually found in the deeper shades.

Don’t be scared! What’s the worst that’ll happen? It’ll look bad? If you have fun putting it on it doesn’t matter, and it probably looks good anyway.

@@glaciergang I'm fairly neutral but I lean slightly cooler. I wear Fenty's pro matte foundation in 150 and it's a pretty accurate match for me.
