Why would you go to an inferior product when the sound quality is very minimal in a mix. Captor is a way better unit overall because it offers you so many more capabilities for 1/3 of the price. OX Box has to many limitations when you can get the fracter audio x load that blows the OX Box as an attenuator and as DI
I’ve recently gotten into modelers. Got two great ones and I love them. Was considering selling my OX as both modelers record beautifully and I love the sounds. Buuuht… …nothing sounds as good, reproducing the clean tones that I absolutely love on my Port City Pearl. I’ve gotten good at creating great clean tones on the modelers, but there’s a crisp edge that’s not quite there. And the OX keeps it there. Sound of the amp is spot on and the cabs/speaks/mics are awesome. (That is to say that I did not sell the OX) 🥂
I agree completely, I’m in the same boat. The OX isn’t exactly like micing a real amp but for situations where that’s not possible (like my small home studio), the OX is a winner.

I bought the OX during lockdowns and it's the best studio purchase I've made hands down. I was using plug-ins and barely touching my amps and this really brought back the joy of tube amps for me. I agree with the things you'd change, an FX loop would be great. It's been a while since it's had an update and I hope with all their new guitar-based gear like the UA pedals etc that they invest more into the OX and release some more updates!
@@riverstone5994 a good question! My amps + OX does give me a better tone and feel than plugins for sure. No doubt. The software in the OX also gives a lot more flexibility with your amps than you might think. The different cabs, mics & EQ/Compressor can really change up your amp tone depending on what you are going for. That said, if I didn't have my amps I would be very happy with plugins/modelling as it's quick and sounds great. I'm happy with being 'hybrid' and using both as find value in both cases. A big investment in amp + OX though so not sure if it's that justifiable in that regard!
I’ve got a captor X, Waza TAE and the ox stomp pedal and the Ox just has mojo the others don’t. It needs a load box to work though and although the TAE is king of flexibility on stage, now that you can use a 3 button switch to toggle sounds on the ox box, it’s a legit option for live music. I’ve got an ox box on the way to try out but I think what I’m most going to enjoy is the more fully fleshed out settings and features of the reverb, delay, comp, etc. The iPhone app control for the ox stomp is pretty useless so the effects kind of feel half assed and is why I still run my UA Delverb pedal.
I just bought one. So far the only thing I don’t like is that (apparently) you can download he app on an iPad but not on an iPhone. I’m not sure why that would be. That said, I’mjust beginning to explore all this device has to offer. I do think I’m going to be glad I bought it.
I ended up getting a Torpedo Studio, which has a similar role to the Ox. The Ox was just a bit over-priced, and the Torpedo just had way more flexibility and options
Yes and no. If I had an amp room, 100% I’d love to play through a real cab. BUT I don’t and music is my job, I have to deliver different tones on the fly. The ox is perfect for that.
Hey, nice presentation of the OX. Just fyi - the ox can be used with solid state amplifiers as well. The manual points that out at page 8 and I‘m using it from time to time without any problems 👍
@@law132003 could you expand on this? I’ve been trying my modeller into an orange pedal baby power amp and then into OX to use the built in IRs and it sounded horrible. Not sure if it’s the modeller digital amps or the power amp which makes it sound bad.
I've wanted an OX Box for a long time but I've been waiting for the next version (if there even is one in the works). I bet it's coming but could be more years away from even being announced.
I‘m absolutely with you. The Ox - despite having the limitations you mentioned - is the best buy and tonal investment in years for me. I use it literally every day and the tone is unbeatable. The attenuater is also a point of possible future improvements as the increments are either too quiet or a little too loud for home use, depending on the amps wattage. Plus, there is no way to compensate for the high frequency loss when attenuating a lot. If there is going to be a Ox Version 2, I‘m the first happy customer for sure.

I would like to be able to patch time based effects (reverb / delay) clean after the amp signal before the cab. It would also allow the amp signal to send to another cab for wet dry setup if necessary. Again, not something I’m desperate for, but it would be helpful.
Could the OX BOX be used in a live situation too. Back in my gigging days one of the problems I had was getting a guitar sound I liked but keeping my my backline amp at a low enough volume so the sound guy could keep my guitar in the mix and still keep a bit of control over it.
Absolutely!!! I don’t use it for live yet hence it not being in my review. It would be ideal for using a high wattage amp live, calming down the volume.
I'm gear ignorant really but this device seems odd to me. it can be used as an attenuator to make the existing speaker on your combo amp sound the same quiet as loud. I get that. But it also has cabinet sims? So I can simulate running my princeton reverb pre-amp into a 4x12 rather than it's stock speaker at all? I’m late to this 615 off 🤣🤣 I don’t find it nearly as bad as you say it is Chris, lack of iPhone app is annoying. I don’t find an issue with the cab choices, they all sound good to me and besides, I hate scrolling through 200 1x12 cabs to find the best one - that’s just me.
Have you tried the Boss Waza Tube expander? Might be more your bag.
Why in the world doesnt it have a xlr out. Dissapointed uad
I know, it’s a bit daft!
