I love the sisyphus game for bits and banter cuz the cuts to make the story flow better will jump between him being on a very precarious situation to the ball barreling down the hill at mach 1
The game itself is great, but there is a very steep monetary cost to even play budget decks. Also if you don't vibe with your local game store your only other option is online which has it's own problems
MTG is like playing any competitive game where when you play a certain amount you accept a certain amount of misery is going to come with playing the game. How much misery that is or how much it hurts you depends a lot on your personal attitude and the local environment you have.
Honestly I love MTG it’s my favorite game, I stay away from the more expensive formats and end up spending about 20-30 € a month on new cards, but I can just not buy any and still be completely fine

I literally slept through every class that wasn't band and still hit a's and b's once I started doing homework which is equivalent to a's in canada, as long as you complete the assignments it's not that bad until college, then it's a different beast entirely
I spent most of my childhood playing Dark Souls instead of studying and still got straight A's in my AS classes by repeatedly singing all test-relevant information to the tune of pop goes the weasel in my head. Like obviously there are a lot of factors going into this sort of thing and I can't expect people to have the same experience but framing it as some gargantuan life-consuming goal seems a little much especially when she's probably going to have good financial and emotional support as she goes through school.
"you don't hit kids, that just teaches them to hit people when things go wrong" but it's somehow different to give non-hitting punishments? the same logic extends to those as well. if you foster an environment where the students respect you then you don't need to punish them in the first place. punishment rarely fixes behavior, we see it all the way up to adults in prisons; recidivism rates are totally unrelated to punishment length or severity. so why tf would it work on kids, who, as you say, have like 2% brain development
Dude is preaching on the issues with MTG. Like sure I could play Commander and hope everyone stays equally casual to keep it fun....or we could just play a fucking board game. We're getting together once or twice a month, this Pandemic Legacy campaign is gonna last a year it'll be great.
in what way is he acting like they should know better? the whole reason hes fine with punishing kids is because they literally CANT be reasoned with. If a kid is acting out and he doesnt when you tell him "hey dont do that" then yeah, they need a punishment of some kind
