Thank you for breaking this down in an easy to understand way. I been struggling to “bite the bullet” on a flat lap because of the cost, but I’m gonna keep watching this video and researching til I figure out how to build one of these. I loved my cabbing classes and want to start cabbing and polishing again soooo bad!

Cool set up. Been looking for a simple set up that won't break the bank. This fits the bill. Thanks for sharing.

So simple I'm embarrassed that I hadn't done this myself years ago. But you can bet I'm going to now! Thanks for the video!

Thank you for the video. You made it very simple. Can you show a picture of how you set up the drainage (in the bucket) for the horizontal machine.

Thank you so much for sharing. I have inherited the metal body part of a flat lap but need to attach a motor a get the master lap disk and grinding discs still. I’m very new to building machines and things. My dad was teaching me while I was being his care giver in the final 2 years of his life. I do have a question for you, did you attach a longer shaft from the motor up inside the flat lap? I need help figuring this out because I really want to get it working. I have a bunch of rough stone he left me that I want to form. I look forward to hearing back from you and again thank you so much.

The piece on the flat lap that you called a "commercially made 1/2 arbor" is there by chance another name it may go by? Just purchased a motor and I am currently looking for the attachment! Thank you for the awesome video, great too see that its possible to have lapidary equipment and not break the bank!

Could you give any tips on the best way to add water to the lap please.

what is your disc speed? I'm thinking of using an ECM type brushless DC motor with variable speed control.

Very Informative. I am officially inspired to build my own. What are the hp and rpm's on your motor? I wasn't able to make out the specifics from the video. Thanks

I guess it comes from doing this for the past 41 years and learning lessons that taught me what to not do.
