      It is reassuring to meet a sane user on YT; one who's emotional state doesn't hamper their ability to think clearly.
      Thank you for creating this channel. Glad I subscribed!
      PS: For the past 3 years, I have thought the following...
      So-called "fans", such as Mothers Basement, Gigguk, and ShoddyCast, are a bane to the development VR as a whole (not just the SAO community). The thought of cancerous "fans"/users logging into future VR worlds makes my skin crawl. These "fans" are reminiscent of the hostile atmosphere found in MMORPG, and most online social environments.
      What is more, in reality, there are people out there who are driven and energized by the wonders expressed by SAO. For them, it is their every intent and eventual reality to dedicate much of their life-spans to the development of VR. I am one of these people. And yet, when I am reminded of cancerous fans [like the aforementioned], I find my find motivation and overall zeal declining.
      Ultimately, I would come to loathe [so-called] fans such as these. Their kind cannot see the bigger picture and are instinctively compelled to hold others back, due to their closet-inferiority complex. This "complex" is what causes them to derive amusement from the misfortune and failures of others. You need only watch their extensive and hate-filled content to realise that their psychology is akin to that of a bully.
      When will they realise that as "loudspeakers" of a large community, they are physically affecting the brains of their listeners (on a literal/quantum level; sound energy affects atoms, and atoms make the organs, including the brain)? Unfortunately, their thoughts, albeit shallow, make a ripple amongst the community. In truth, they should keep their simple-minded opinions contained.

    Wow. This video is a real eye opener for me... When I originally first saw SAO, I was hooked, and absolutely loved it. Considered it my favorite anime at the time, and started consuming basically everything related to the series. I even purchased DVD copies of it online (which I basically never do for any anime). But then I started noticing how there was so much extreme hate from so many people basically everywhere online, so I decided to look up what their arguments were by watching the various videos from Mother's Basement, Digibro, AniSins, etc. Plus looked up other people's arguments against the series on forums and whatnot, and I was just hard pressed to refute their claims. I eventually just chocked it up to "Well, I guess I just have really poor taste" and haven't really kept up much with the series ever since. I mean, it's kinda hard to do so when everyone around you is ready to totally ridicule you for daring to like what seems to be considered objectively bad. Though thankfully now days I've gotten a lot older and no longer care about things like peer pressure and shit. So for whatever reason, I just happened to go look back on it for nostalgic purposes, and low and behold I come across this video. This put the whole series into a very different context for me, and I'm glad to see it wasn't nearly as bad as I was led to believe. I'm actually interested to go back and catch up with the series now, so thank you for that. ☺

    Idk man. On one side, I love your content and it makes sense how you explain things.
    On the other, I can't blame that guy too much. Maybe he just watched the anime, never read the novels.
    The main impression I have from this channel is "The SAO light novels are great. But the anime adaptation isn't."
    I heard other reviewers who say...hmm. How do I paraphrase this....
    Ok let me give you the example I saw. The force awakens and the last jedi. Reviewers pointed out that details people complain about are explained in comics, movie novels, cartoons and other media. But the reviewers also said that if the films were actually good they would have included those explanations and the 3rd party material wouldn't be needed.
    Not exactly the same situation here, i don't even know if this guy complaining had this mentality, but my view on the complaints were: "I'm complaining about stuff in the sao anime. Not the novels. If the anime was good it would have explained things."
    You might call refusing to read the novels and only judging the anime as being intentionally ignorant, or something like that. But trust me, people don't allways have the time or interest to read them. I only read the parts with eugeo and alice :))

    • @Gamerturk
      @Gamerturk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      > The SAO light novels are great. But the anime adaptation isn't
      That is partially correct. Light Novels are more enjoyable, but I have issues with certain things there as well. The thing is, as I mentioned in the video, some of his claims are even explained in the anime. I totally agree that the defence to "Anime is shit" is not and cannot be "But LN's are great", Anime is Anime and if people want to judge the anime, they are perfectly okay doing that. But when anime explains concepts and you complain about things because you missed the explanation, then that becomes an issue of your own attention. Take my Alicization Episode 24 Explained for example, I'm sure you watched it, I know you are pretty active on my channel. I tore it to shreds, because it was a terrible adaptation and Anime Only's will never experience what that scene is supposed to be. However for example, Claim 17, why was Kayaba not arrested, the Anime itself explains this and not even Alicization, way before Alicization, it is brought up by Kikuoka that Kayaba had went into hiding and was found only after the incident.
      So yes, I totally believe the Anime should be able to stand on its own and as you know, I am not shy on criticising the Anime when it doesn't. Zakkaria tournament being cut, so the nobility and rules not being clearly explained, Episode 13 being cut so the history of Quinella is not clearly explained etc etc, these are clear faults of the anime and I will not defend them. I will mention that the Light Novels have the answers, but I will not shame people for criticising those things in the anime, and I will criticise these with them.

    The 10,000 player limit explanation reminds me of what happened when Pokemon bank first went live on its initial release on 15th December 2013. It was pushed back due to the amount of Nentendo IDs being created lead to the eShop crashing (and that was when it was released for Japan, South Korea and other parts of Asia). At which point bank was removed and re-released on 22nd January 2014 (4th/5th February 2014 for the rest of the world).

    The best way to think about the "10,000 players" thing is that it was effectively an "early access" launch. From the non-Kayaba dev perspective, 10k was never meant to be the total player count, just the initial hype-generating launch. With only 10x more players than the beta test, they could be confident in a very stable launch, something that was very important for MMO launches (which I think people have sort of forgotten with WoW being 90% of the MMO market for two decades); games like Anarchy Online were almost permanently on the back foot after launch due to bad initial releases. Having your "launch" event be tuned for maximum stability is a believable justification for Kayaba to use to get things launched his way, because it's *also* critical for his plans.
    Nerve Gear sales were also restricted by the restricted sales on SAO; as you mentioned, SAO was the first real game for it, and likely many players basically bought their Nerve Gear at the same time they bought SAO (this was the case for Klien, for instance). If the "killer app" (pun intended) isn't out yet, people aren't going to buy it yet, and if they can't *buy* it yet, same applies. A non-death-game SAO would have sold Nerve Gear to half the players who joined.
    GW2 also provides an example of an MMO without such a dedicated tank-dps-healer trinity.
    7 is a copy paste from Mother's Basement. Several people have claimed that Kirito's only advantage is the speed that gave him the DW skill.
    For 10, you usually get more total XP in a party, but less per person.
    For 13, Kayaba also isn't interested in killing people though "non roleplay" fashion. Disconnect deaths are only to prevent the NG from being removed. It would be in *his* interest to actually help the authorities locate all the players so they could be moved.

    Pretty good video overall. 👌
    I still remember to this day about the "high detail rendering thing" in the Silica side story in the vol. 2 Though I never knew that Aincrad would not render places that were not inhabited.
    Also, I watched all the ads to support the channel 👍

    • @Gamerturk
      @Gamerturk  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry that I didnt make it clear. Yes, the Silica side story mentions the high quality and low quality textures, but doesn't mention anything about non-rendered places. That is just a common rendering technique in general. That's why in current gen games, you have for example long corridors or an elevator sequence. That's because the game is rendering the next area for you while you are traversing that corridor or waiting for the elevator door to open. And in fact, the low res-high res tactic is also commonly used in todays games, with dynamic texturing only bringing up low res stuff far away and high res stuff nearby. It's just that the fact that these are server side is what matters.

      It's the same reason why they can't use an EMP to disable NerveGears. When it comes to hacking, you constantly hit firewalls and once you do, you need to find workarounds etc. Now imagine a single firewall you hit, has the potential to kill 10k people. Naturally, nobody can take that risk, and especially not the government. In fact, if I was part of the government, I would do my absolute best that no outside hacker would be able to reach SAO servers in the first place, just to mitigate that risk.

    Many people don't realize that SAO was such a big financial failure because it was never intended to make money in the first place. Also one valid "plot hole" might be that Asunas appearance was like nothing had ever happened to her at the end of season 1. She looked perfectly healthy despite not moving a muscle in 2,5+ years.

    • @Gamerturk
      @Gamerturk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      > Many people don't realize that SAO was such a big financial failure because it was never intended to make money in the first place
      Keep in mind that nobody but Kayaba had that idea, unless SAO was a platform seller, similar to Spiderman PS4, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War, which alone do not make money, but bring people to the platform. I have to bring attention to this since we do not have information whether SAO was a platform seller or an actual standalone commercial product.
      As for Asuna, you can either chalk that up to his family being very wealthy and thus she is being taken care of perfectly, or simply A1 wanting to have her look good for their re-uniting scene.

    • @Hoto74
      @Hoto74 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. Asuna's family has a bit more money than Kirito's, so it is clear hear hospital was a bit better and she get a better therapy.
      2. I bet it was not the plan to run SAO with only 10.000 Players forever, that was only the release plan. But Kayaba had a bit other plans. SAO was released only i the bigger area of Tokyo. I'm sure it was planed to let more players in after release, create over time different Serves and export the game to other countries. That often happen to real MMOs too and that all together is mostly needed to make money with such games. And we also don't know anything about payment, the monthly subscription is still a thing and possible that such a FullDive VR game cost a bit more per month and I'm sure players would pay for that completely new experience happily more money.
      But all such future plans ended with Kayaba's own plans for SAO. If something would happen in real life you can be sure, that players even don't need to pay the monthly subscription anymore. So every company that something happen would have a very big financial problem, specially when the VR system itself also comes from that company and must stop sell that too. They would have many costs, but near no incomes anymore.

    • @jgkitarel
      @jgkitarel 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Gamerturk Asuna looking healthy, rather than emaciated was A1 keeping her looking good. Granted, she was from a wealthy family and they would have spared no expense at reducing the ravages, but she still noticeably looked thinner when she woke up, just not gaunt or with severe atrophy, but she did have to undergo physio and she spent weeks needing crutches to walk, as she mentioned in the last episode of Season 1 that she was happy to not need them any more.
      As for SAO itself, the lack of profit is because Kayaba never intended it to make a profit, though he would not have said as much to his investors. Frankly, the most unrealistic aspect is the perception that he was the only one involved in developing SAO. Alicization clarifies this a bit, but not much. Kayaba was actively involved, yes, but this can be chalked up to Kawahara not understanding the details of Project Management and the role of the guy directing the project, which is very much supervisory and ensuring that things are done on time and on budget, while also telling clients "no" once a certain point has been reached and they can't make any changes to the project without significant overruns in one or both areas.

      @@Hoto74 And Argus went under from the lawsuits. Fortunately for the players, they were insured as Japan has a requirement that every person be insured, whether on their own (for adults) or under their own family's plans. There is also the fact that the government would have picked up a good portion of the bill to ensure that those trapped had at least basic care, though if their families wanted to get better care provided, they were free to do so on their own dime.

    Awesome video Gamerturk! If you are doing another Q and A I have a few questions to ask. If not maybe just answer them in the comments if you can. Thanks!
    1) Have you read the progressives yet and if so what is your opinion on them so far? I think they’re amazing, especially with the added layers of depth to the story regarding the power struggle of the two guilds and the formation of laughing coffin.
    2) With alicization I kind of wanted to see kirito thinking of or missing Asuna more. It felt a little lacking with him just focusing on his goals with eugeo and not getting anything from him about asuna in the whole two years he was there. I get they have a lot to get through and animate and he was busy training eugeo and fighting everyone but there wasn’t even something small like him admitting how much he missed her or any of his real world friends. It was 2 years for him after all. I think even something small would have been really impactful if done correctly.
    Apart from when he wakes up in underworld and the bit at the very end where he connects to rath on the system console I don’t think kirito’s story perspectives mention anyone irl once, except anger towards rath.
    I know there is the flower scene in swordcraft academy but it wasn’t really the sort of ‘longing to be back with everyone’ I’m talking about. I guess you can just chalk it up to being good old kirito living in whatever world he is in, but still would have liked to see something more. Basically I’m asking if you agree with that or not. Would you have liked to see something similar in underworld?
    3) not really story related but more this-video related. I have a lot of friends who dislike sao and the most common thing i hear from them is that kirito has no personality. I’m actually really confused by this statement whenever anyone mentions it because in my opinion, kirito has one of the best anime personalities I’ve ever encountered. He fights for what he believes is right and wants to protect his friends. He’s shy around lots of people at first because he’s a nerdy introvert, and he’s observant and smart, and uses his knowledge for good. He has gotten a lot of his traits and morals from being stuck in sao, which I think is cool and pretty realistic to say the least. But it doesn’t matter how I describe him, anyone who likes sao is gonna know who kirito is as a person.
    I feel like there’s two main ways of showing personalities in anime (I don’t watch a lot so it’s just from my experiences). You can deliver characterisation verbally, with dialogue and exposition, or you can do it visually with animation and specific scenes. For me, sao leans more towards the visual side as it doesn’t really deal with explaining who people are with dialogue and focuses more on how they act and react in certain situations. Take kirito’s distain for kikouka. No one blatantly says he’s a suspicious/untrustworthy guy (except for kirito way after he meets him) but the way he is shown and how he behaves in certain ways lets you know that this is a shady guy. Kirito can tell he’s up to something bad (mostly relating to season 2 and 3 here) and that he shouldn’t trust him completely. Turns out to be right.
    Then you could have an anime like Your Lie in April, which mostly delivers characterisation verbally, or at least first above most other things. A lot of the story telling is done through character exchanges/thoughts as opposed to showing those things, at least primarily. Kosei has a lot of internal dialogue regarding his past and presently about his friends. When you find out about his childhood with his mother, the audience is told primarily through his dialogue. There are visuals too, but it’s not as prevalent as the verbal storytelling (and I’m trying to use a somewhat good example based on something I’ve seen). When kosei realises kaori is lying about her sickness, you also see that through his voiced thoughts.
    I’m not saying one way is better than the other, just that there will be differences to the level of absorption from the audience. The verbal way, you don’t have to pay too much attention to understand what is going on. With visual you kinda need to. This is the main reason I think haters find sao more dull and boring/blank, whatever they call it, because they don’t pay attention to the visual storytelling or what characters are doing rather than saying. Sao tells a story visually, but it creates a world with its added dialogue and exposition. You need to pay attention to both to really enjoy sao imo. You can enjoy the anime with the visuals, but I remember watching s1 and 2 before reading the books, and I remember so many times a character said something seemingly insignificant, where if you payed enough attention it explained the world/character motivation/foreshadowed something, so well that i was actually gobsmacked, thinking, “wow” or “this is gonna be important later”.
    That was really long and idk if it made a lot of sense but do you think that’s a fair judgement? I’d be happy to clear things up and I’d love to hear your opinions too!

    Battle Regen is very funny, because it's literally just "HP Regen", a basic mechanic, not even a skill, of most games.
    Like, play Path of Exile, if you play a tank character you are going to notice how even a boss hit can half your max hp and then you get back to max hp before the next strike because of your natural high Life Regen.
    Now, imagine being a duelist, a swordsman without a shield, you are not very tanky and your HP regen would be low, because you focus on DPS, Critical Hit and Dodge, that means that against a boss that halves your HP on a single hit, you are not going to regain enought HP before the next attack, but if people that deal less damage to you than your Life Regen, then you are not even going to notice it.
    Kirito Battle Regen could be seen as Garen (from League of Legends) Passive, which increases his HP regen as long as he has not been hitted by a player in the last seconds, a similar effect is granted by Warmog except this one would stop healing if any hit is taken, at this point, Kirito VS Newbies would be like Garen VS Minions, he heals much more than the damage they deal to him, thus you are not even going to see his HP bar to get lower

    The thing is with your first point, is that it’s completely okay to have 10,000 people online at launch. It’s okay to assume that maybe SAO would have a trickle effect to let more people in, but what doesn’t make sense is limiting the number of copies sold to 10,000 players. That’s what bothers people because no matter how you look at it SAO is an expensive game to make and 10,000 copies of what would most likely be a 60-80$ dollar game wouldn’t make sense. You wouldn't profit any by making and selling SAO for that amount of money.
    Your second point also makes little sense, why shouldn't the nervegear be compared to other VR headsets? It is still primarily a gaming system even if it does support other features. I would have argued that this is a valid point, but only because there have been large leaps in VR tech over the past couple of years and it’s always hard to predict technological advancements. If you told me right now, that VR has a feature that allows me to display my consciousness into a virtual world then I would gladly buy that device and so would others since, now, VR is extremely popular. I would say that this would have been a fine estimation for its time. However, with current events, the nervegear would be considered a flop just like the hololense you brought up.
    Number three is only half right, poisoning food doesn’t make sense, like, in what game would I want to initiate PVP by poisoning someone? I would just hit them with my sword or shoot them with my gun. Games such as Minecraft have poisoned food, sure, but I have never seen it be used in combat. A bad, but related example, is Fallout 76 who also has a hunger system as well as a radiation system that can somewhat similar to poison, but never have I seen someone try to feed another irradiated food for combat purposes. Having a hunger system is fine, but having a system in which players can directly sabotage food makes no sense and could only make a decent case if the game was meant to be played like real life.
    To be honest, I only have a little experience with code, but what you say does actually make sense, while normally an admin would have this power, I can see Akihiko blocking this ability. Though, I would say it was still sorta dumb for Kirito to not try, or reflect on wanting to try, even if he was distracted with Yui.
    For point five I agree that you don't need a class system in an MMO, while it is nice, other RPG games will mostly have stats that you can level up and put points into so you can decide on your own what you 'role' is.
    Number six also seems to be confused, I don't actually know how the seed works, but if you say it works as an engine then that's fine. What the poster seemed to be confused with was that games like ALO would be using assets from SAO without the designers' permission. There are a lot of free assets for 3D models on the internet, but considering that SAO is a triple-A developed game it would be hard to believe that the creators would let it go for free. Even if Akihiko gave the seed with assets for free, it isn't in his place to do so as those rights would belong to the designer unless there was some sort of contract that says otherwise. But it seems like the seed is just an engine in which case it's completely okay.
    Okay, so, what you said about SAO is completely true and I would say right, but unfortunately, SAO isn't the only game we see him play. We see him play in both ALO and GGO in ways that seem OP because he walks in and destroys people who have experience with the game with little experience of his own. We only see him struggle again in the Underworld which is something he should have been doing since he converted over to ALO.
    Point eight you are completely right.
    You are right again.
    I think what the poster is trying to say is the idea of real death actually happening would scare any sane person from going out and griding levels. Obviously in a normal game death is a consequence but one that can be shrugged off, however in SAO there are no redos. Also in MMOs, especially popular ones, it is common for there to be no endgame, sure maybe the main story quest will be over, but you can still play and the devs can release expansions. In real life, these are things that happen, MMOs are not really designed to have an end, so really SAO is only an MMO by the very definition of massive multiplayer online. However, most of the tropes and stereotypical things that happen in MMOs aren't in SAO making it seem less like an MMO and just a big multiplayer game. If SAO doesn't end at floor 100, as you say is possible, then why would anyone really 'play' SAO, they would just accept their life and forget about leaving the game.
    You are righto.
    True.
    True again.
    Yup.
    True again, but I would argue a better plot hole is that one of the people attacking Kirito in the scene you used is actually dual-wielding pickaxes.
    You still sort of ignored his statement that there are no real glitches or bugs in SAO, I think in any game it would be common to find at least one or two Bethesda level issue.
    Mhm.
    Some of these points are real critiques of SAO showing the flaws that it has. It bewilders me that people actually care about defending some of them because they can't argue problems that actually exist. But doesn't everything have issues, plotholes, errors, etc? Sometimes it is better to recognize those flaws and accept them rather than try to defend it with arguments that bend over backward in order for it to be somewhat arguable. If you like SAO then you like SAO, you should have to defend its real flaws in order to feel comfortable with liking it. I do not say that's what he or others are doing, but its something I notice people do a lot. If you have any problems with what I have said please respond with what you think, I find discussing SAO to be interesting.

      Ah, long comment there, thank you for taking the time! Let me try to address some of those points. Im a little busy so I'm trying to be fast, so if anything sounds confusing, do let me know and I'll clarify further:
      *10.000 at launch:* I'm a little confused as to what you are saying here. "Having 10k at launch is okay, but selling 10k is not feasible" is kind of contradictory unless I'm misunderstanding you somewhere. And again, 10k copies was definitely the "initial amount available for sale". As mentioned in the video, a gradual rollout, starting with 10k people in mainland Japan only to ensure the servers can handle the massive load. If it wasn't a death game, it would gradually roll out to new players and new regions, very much like Pokemon Go, it's the exact example actually, which is why I mentioned it there. It first came out in the US and Japan I believe on a handful of devices (and limited to specific states in the US) to ensure not the entire world would get in. Of course, Android sideloading made the effort futile, but the concept here is what matters. Sell to 10k early adopters. Then after 2 weeks, ship 50k more copies in Japan. After a month, Ship 100k worldwide to specific high demand countries. And on and on. Whatever their actual business plan was, it had obviously stopped functioning the moment it turned into a death game.
      The price point is a valid complaint, but while I didn't mention this in the video to not dilute the argument (which already took longer than I wanted, 4-5 minutes of a 22 minute video), SAO may as well have been designed as a "Platform Seller", the same way Spiderman, Horizon, God of War etc were on PS4. They were incredibly high quality, high polish, huge content offerings for the standard price. They surely did not make much profit, if any, but they were first party games that was all about attracting people to the platform, to make money through other services & games in the long run.
      *Why not compare to other VR headsets:* Because other VR headsets are bundles, aggressively pushed by the manufacturers. PSVR was pushed incredibly hard for the past half decade almost, appearing in a large chunk of the PS E3 conference and any Sony press material really. NerveGear was not "a peripheral that provided a new way to utilize your already existing device", it *is* the device, so a comparison to HoloLens and Galaxy Fold makes much more sense. It is not aimed at console owners that is already in the millions looking to expand the capabilities of their console, it is to be tasted by early adopters of a brand new device that has never been seen before, with brand new concepts and low developer support. Needless to say, it is probably not as cheap as a PSVR either.
      *in what game would I want to initiate PVP by poisoning someone:* Exactly! The answer is "in a game where you do not want to initiate PvP at all", because initiating PvP comes with the huge baggage of being marked a "murderer", whereas poison food is secret. As long as your target is dead, nobody can trace that back to you and your cursor remains orange because *you did not initiate PvP at all!* Also, to add, Orange Players cannot even enter towns and get attacked by Guard NPC's, let alone the players who took the job of being --Batman-- a vigilante and take out Orange Players as the law. Not becoming an Orange Player is the biggest benefit of poisonous food. And Imagine if SAO was not a death game, so PvP was a much bigger part of the game? Deceiving people with poison food is a goldmine for those PvP players who do not want to raise any alarm.
      *Code Scene:* Fair argument there. It would have been beneficial to see him juggling the possibility in the back of his mind, though with the limitations of the initial story, I can see why such a minor detail would be skipped. maybe in Progressive, if Reki ever manages to get that far!
      *Copyright:* While the full potential of the Seed Nexus is left quite vague, possibly to be used in the future if need be, at its core, it is a Game Creation Engine. An Open Source one at that, since Kirito, with the help of Agil and a bunch of people, uploaded it to the web for everyone to use. As for ALO, there is no issue of copyright there. ALO is a copied over Aincrad (it was not created via the Seed) and is technically an asset flip, like the many you see on Steam these days. However, what protects it from Copyright is that the creator of ALO is RECT, the company who bought out Argus (SAO developer company) once they went bankrupt shortly after the incident. So, everything that belonged to Argus, everything in SAO became RECT's property, and thus they could easily publish ALO without any legal trouble.

    • @Gamerturk
      @Gamerturk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      *He isn't just in SAO:* The key point here is, do you ever see Kirito using anything else than what he did in SAO? He cannot even succesfully use a gun, that's why the one scene where he uses his gun, is when he is blindfiring, once during the preliminaries to just make his opponent panic, and second, against Death Gun in the final fight, hoping to graze him at the very least in short distance to de-cloak him. And to add, ALO is an SAO copy, almost 1 to 1, and GGO is using the same physics and gameplay as SAO thanks to the Seed. And while the GGO bits may seem unlikely due to the inclusion of guns (and the way A1 animated that one "Imma block all the bullets from the fast firing assault rifle" moment), Kirito actually utilizes all of his VR knowledge to turn the tides to his side. He actively forces enemies into close quarters and has very good map awareness, that comes with the added benefit of living 2 years in a death game where the littlest sound can trigger your survival instincts. Naturally, these little things are not easily adapted into anime form any further than "small sound, Kirito opens his eyes", whereas they can be much more detailed as to how certain concepts (and behavioral habits) work.
      *MMO's*: MMO's do have "Endgame". Endgame is not the "end of the story", it's the repetitive grind to become the most powerful you can be, after the actual content is over. Most MMORPG's do this with Endgame level raids that drop the most powerful gear and stuff. In SAO's case, each "Floor Boss" is technically *the* Endgame. The most difficult challenge that drops the most powerful gear for its clearers. The only thing lacking is the repetition and the repetition is brought by the fact that it is achieved by the "clear the next Floor" feature. Repetitive grind is not "Defeat this specific boss", the repetitive grind is "Clear the next Floor". As for what I meant by "It may continue after F100", of course, I didn't mean it in the death game scenario, I meant it as the actual planned gameplay scenario. Also considering Aincrad has a huge lore behind it, being separated from the earth via 2 goddesses and how there are entities on the floating Castle trying to undo this and get reunited with the earth, surely if there was no Death Game, there would be something else after the game completion. And one can also argue that maybe, the Floor bosses would be respawning for that repetitive grind, as they do in the Aincrad game Integral Factor for example. The fact that a possibility is not explored due to narrative having a different focus, does not mean that possibility does not exist.
      *Dual Axe Wielder:* That's an animation error on A1's side. There is no dual axe wielder in the novels :P
      *Glitches in SAO:* Oh but there are. We barely saw anything in the world due to the original story only being the end of Aincrad and the remaining half being side stories that jumped in time. But remember the Murder Mystery episodes, where members were being killed in safe zones and Kirito and Asuna had to investigate? The entire reason was a glitch to begin with. There were also plenty of glitches and exploits in general, it's just that the anime did not really have time to elaborate (and the original story was very isolated). Skill Connect for example, is a glitch. Incarnation, is a glitch. And there are plenty of other glitches extensively elaborated on in the Progressive novels too. The statement that SAO has no glitches is just factually wrong, as the anime even showcases multiple of them.
      Again, thanks for the write up, do let me know if you have issues with any answers or feel like something is lacking. As for "Why defend critique", I am a reviewer myself. As a content creator, I am open to critique as well, the same way I critique products, games, series etc. But I have to speak up when I feel like the criticism comes from a lack of knowledge, rather than solid criticism. I can and will defend all of these, because they are not solid claims. They are vague and baseless, the same way many praises are vague and empty, and those I oppose on my channel too. And when there are actual criticism to be made, I acknowledge that as well. For example, why do all characters look the same in ALO as they do in Aincrad, when ALO character creator is randomised? That is a legitimate criticism. How do Kirito and Leafa not recognized each other, when they sound exactly the same as real life? If I cannot justify these things, then I will not go the petty route and try to create justifications for them and admit these are indeed "plotholes". I can go and say "Oh but they may not have sounded the same, it's just that the anime didnt care", but I won't, because such information does not exist. I am not going to say "Kikuoka could have arranged them their original avatars to have in ALO so they look the same" because that is not mentioned in the novels. The most I would go is the case of "Endgame claim" up there, the fact that we don't hear anything about it in an isolated story, does not mean it exists and it is so far away from relevance that it is normal it is never brought up. But being so central to the plot, like Leafa and Kirito in ALO, then questions need to be asked and if answers do not exist, well, nothing can be done, but deeming it plot convenience/plothole.

      Gamerturk Gamerturk dude, thanks so much for replying I am glad you are open to discussion and to further explain yourself even though you are a busy person!
      That’s really all I wanted to say, although I completely ran over the murder mystery arc I had considered that more like an exploit like the skill chain in ALO than a glitch but maybe glitch and exploit are closer in definition than I realized.
      Anyways, you clearly are very versed in your knowledge of so I won’t doubt your information regarding lore and thing of that nature. I look forward to seeing more amazing content from you in the future! To be honest, I have always wondered what your take on a SAO game would be like!

      @Gamerturk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh no worries, I always look for healthy discussion here on my channel, so don't be shy, if you have concerns, share them and I'll do my best!
      Glitches and Exploits are actually the same thing. It's just that "Exploit" is a bug that creates an advantage for the player in most cases as "an exploitable bug", while a glitch is just an unexpected bug in general, whether to the benefit or to the detriment of the player. Both are just bugs in the code, it's mostly the distinction between "exploitable" or "random". Not always, as there are grey areas where people will use one over the other by instinct, but that is more or less the gist of it.
      My take? That's a veeeeery vague and large question, maybe I'll make an entire video on that in the future! Progressive Novels build the world incredibly that would allow me to actually elaborate a lot on SAO the game.

      Good question there! But no, your in-game appearance would not change later down the line, if you were still at a growing age. (Kirito was but anime logic dictates your features remain the same for brand recognition reasons)
      Remember that in Episode 1, Kirito explains to Klein how Kayaba knew about their real world appearances? Their body is rigged during the calibration stage before logging in, when NG makes you go into certain positions. Their in-game appearance is based on that calibration process.

    9. Off topic but.. Do you think Kayaba's goal was Incarnation? I mean, Kirito does that in every game (because it bases of Cardinal and The Seed), and Underworld even takes that to the extreme probably being the next step of Akihiko's idea (as presumed in novel by his girlfriend, Rinko). By "Incarnation" I mean just what Kayaba once said. I think it goes like.. "Overcoming the power of a system by will alone", something like that.
    13. Novel said that Klein was getting help from his boss in job.
    16. He does have a point here, where are bugs in SAO? We found none, but Yui only.

      8) Pretty sure anime mentioned games before SAO. Somewhere where Kirito is explaining how revolutionary SAO is, how none of the previous products took advantage of the Full Dive and were glorified VR games.
      9) Nope. Kayaba's goal was the "floating castle high up in the sky" where he always "dreamt to be going up floor by floor" until one day he no longer had the dream. His goal was to bring back that dream like never before and have people live in there. He had accomplished his goal and would have no issues disappearing after that, but Kirito and Asuna defying the system in front of his eyes got him curious and he started investigating that.
      16) There are plenty of bugs in SAO. Some patched from Beta to Release, some even visible in the Anime. Murder Mystery's entire premise is an audiovisual bug that people are exploiting. Skill Connect is an unintended bug, that was not even patched in future iterations like in ALO and Underworld. Incarnation, up until Alicization, is a bug. There are plenty of bugs and glitches, people just gloss over them.

    Ugh! I can't believe that you had to make this! When I see every one of these 'misconceptions' that this person posted about, I just wanted to scream at them: READ THE NOVELS AND MANGA CAREFULLY AND WATCH THE ANIME CAREFULLY GENIUS!!!
    For example: The 'Kirito hacking' bit at GM panel under Black Iron Palace in Aincrad! Geez! Hello! Didn't you figure that Kayaba would make sure that he was the ONLY ONE that could log people out without completing the game?!
    I'm sorry to rant here, but what you call 'misconceptions', I just call...Well, it isn't something to be said on social media, let's leave it at that, okay?
    Thank you for making this video and kindly showing that those 'misconceptions' about SAO are just one thing: Wrong!

      @tahsinhossain8028 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think Kayaba wished to log out before the others.
      Well, we see that in Alicization, Kayaba's girlfriend finds him wearing the Nervegear and in his secret little hideout.
      And I don't think he logged out for once from the game.
      Yes, I do agree that he didn't have the same "death risk" as the other players, but to a certain level, Kayaba was fair.
      He promised that he would not kill Asuna, and he kept it.
      Meaning, he could have avoided his own death too.
      But he didn't, rather he accepted the same fate as the players.
      I don't think Kayaba made that to log the players out. Well, maybe he did, to log them out once they defeated the hundredth boss.
      I might be wrong, but I think Kayaba trying to log out had nothing to do with the panel under the Black Iron Palace.

Lotta brainwaves all at once could overload the headset’s aging processor, causing the headset itself to lock up

    To be fair on the misunderstanding on Kirito being called a murderer by the man he killed in self defense, and not facing any legal consequences for it, this is explained by an aspect of Japanese culture. Kirito killed in self defense, which is NOT a Get Out of Jail Free Card in Japan (it isn't even here in the US, just so you know), but the murderer comment is because Kirito is not Law Enforcement or Military, where the possibility of taking lives is a part of their duties, and is thus not exactly tolerate by Japanese culture. Kirito himself thinks that he is a murderer, for all that his actions were justified in his own mind. Again, he is Japanese, which has a very different interpretation on killing in self defense or in defense of others when you are not in certain roles, and even if you aren't punished legally for it, you are often subjected to quiet sanctions by the general populace. In fact, he and the other SAO Survivors ARE separated from society and are being watched and monitored, not to mention being required to undergo psychological counseling. All of them.

    I love you for making this.
    It always pains me to see how many anime youtubers bash SAO for these issues (that aren't issues if you pay even the slightest bit of attention and use more than two of your brain cells) in their shallow surface-level """analyses""".
    What's even worse is most of the complaints can be instantly made to go up in smoke once you notice one small detail, and that detail is at the very beginning of the very first episode of the series, which basically establishes the central theme of the franchise. That detail is one particular choice of words in the japanese text which says something along the lines of "In the Year 2022, Humanity managed to create a perfect virtual world". And here I propose the following question: why would it say "virtual WORLD"? Why doesn't it say "VR game" or just "videogame" or "MMO"?
    Because it isn't one. At least not to the extent proper games we know are. The entire premise and overarching theme of SAO is that the virtual world is just as real as the real world, the relationships and boundaries between the two, and how the way you behave online is a reflection of what you're really like (best explored with Sugou in Fairy Dance) because your character is just an extension of yourself (best explored with Sinon in Phantom Bullet), or as Kirito puts it: "the player and the character are one and the same". Many misconceptions including some listed in this video are explained like that.
    Speaking of which, other common ones are Kirito's overpoweredness and "i forgot lol". for the former, that's simply not true because Kirito does endure a lot of failures in life and things rarely go his way and he's been on the verge of dying several times. Yeah and that scene from episode 4 is always brought up in relation to how OP he supposedly is when it's LITERALLY THE ONLY SCENE IN THE ENTIRE FRANCHISE where he's shown to be *that* strong except *maybe* for the end of Ordinal Scale and/or War of Underworld. Also the LN explains his regeneration in that scene as some kind of combat meditation skill that only works if he's completely motionless (which is also why it doesn't work in, say, the Gleam Eyes fight).
    As for "i forgot lol", Kayaba literally stated his motivations in the first episode, he only said he forgot the REAL reason a long time ago. But even then, Central Themes come to the rescue: He very likely trapped the players to make it a "real virtual world", where death is just as lethal as in real life.
    Also whenever someone says "why didn't Kirito log everyone out?" I simply reply "Do you seriously think he wouldn't if he could?" and let them sit in their own stupidity for a while.

    Dude, stop calling people who are going off of different material than you stupid, you know I have commented and liked on a lot of your videos, but seriously where dou you get off. Their issues and are legit, if you have to go dig into into novels and wiki's to make a point for another piece of media, that piece of media has failed to portray it well. SAO has garbage protrayal of a game, the writer even admited he knew nothing about games when writing it and it has too many inconsistencies to point them all out, it is memeable, that is why it is a meme.
    When I have watched SAO I had the same or similar questions and the same doubts or laughs as they have, just because you are a fan of something and can justify all of its faults using material unavailable or unknown to what I would assume is vast majority of its fanbase (people who watch the anime) doesnt mean the product isnt just as flawed as many others thing and pointed out.
    They are not stupid, nor are their claims and videos, they are very intelligent people who went and made a video with knowledge of the series that more casusal fans would have, that is why they are so vastly liked and accepted.
    Also, many of your points are still wrong and instead of wearing horse blinders, you are wearing fanboy pink googles. (Just for the first point... that is why companies have many more, than just one server and before you say thats not how it works or whatever, this technology doesnt exist, we have no clue how it would work, there is no reason for them to not have several servers for 10k people each.) 2 Hololens is also a flop and doesnt have a major, state of the art vr mmo for milions of dollars made for it, what even is this excuse :D 4... do you not see the numbers on that screen? What you showed is nothing like what Kirito is seemingly seeing, he would have had to have understanding of that insane strand of code to do anything, so yea, still a god level programmer seemingly. Once again, you say what is portrayed is different than what actually happened (sure anime made it dramatic, but its so easy) no, this is how it was portrayed, so why would anyone assume that it is easy?
    etc. imo your correction of misconceptions is just excuse made by having a different viewpoint of said issue because of your knowledge of the series.
    6 hahahaha, do you know how copyright system works? Granted no game has ever birthed a game engine in form of a digital egg that can spawn other games, however im fairly certain the company that made the innitial game would have the copyright claim to that, even if it had been led by a maniac :D In this case whoever would buy the remnants of the company would get it, I guess the closest we would know of would be the gross dude from the second arc.
    8 close minded huh... eh not even gonna bother with this. Your corrections have about as many flaws as the actual sao anime and games (havnt read novels or manga) but unfortunately its even more insulting.
    10 yea... no.

I request that you chill in terms of your language and provide reasonable, proper statements rather than non-sensical 2 word responses and insults.
      > Dude, stop calling people who are going off of different material than you stupid
      I gave credit as to whether it was natural for the OP to not know due to not reading the Light Novels. Most arguments were still answered in the anime, which I made clear.
      > just because you are a fan of something and can justify all of its faults using material unavailable or unknown to what I would assume is vast majority of its fanbase
      Again, most of these are featured in the anime as well. And I am here to share information where I can, and that is exactly what I did. I am not sure what got you so worked up about it. This is no different from my Alicization Explained series. Instead of coming up with criticisms myself and providing information, here, I am providing information based on criticisms somebody else came up with, most of which are simply false, even by Anime standards.
      Your responses are incredibly uneducated in all the ways possible...
      You know how many base Unity and Unreal Engine games there are for sale on Steam? They don't infringe any copyright because it is the same thing as the Seed Nexus. They have a license to use them. Seed Nexus is Open Source, which grants everyone a free license to create games as they please. On top of this, the entire VR scene is closely controlled by the Japanese government. And especially for their secret military projects, they want VR to evolve. I havent went that deep, because that is stepping into Alicization territory, but here you go. A lot of shady things are going on regarding the usage of the Seed and the Japanese government wants that to happen.
      HoloLens is by no means a flop, I have plenty of acquaintances in tech firms of various sizes, in various countries, HoloLens is a device that is handily used by many. Just because you dont openly see it used for game consoles, does not mean something is a flop. All leaps in tech are incredibly expensive and never pay off. But those leaps are still made for the sake of technology and improvement. That is literally how the world works. As I said for the hacking scene, A1 made a huge mess of its portrayal. I tell this whereever I go. A1 did a mess, most misunderstandings regarding that scene is A1's, thus the animes fault. That does not prevent me from sharing how it really happened.
      Chill out, whatever got you so worked up, take a deep breath first. By no means am I here to claim SAO is perfect and even in this video, I have admitted plenty of times where Anime made a lot of mistakes.

    • @KaiSaeren

      @@Gamerturk I am chill and I havnt used any unreasonable language, also I have used proper reasonable statements, till the later points where I just lost interest tbh, no offence but like I said at the end, I see many faults in your explanation of these misconceptions.
      What got me ticked off is that you pointlessly point out other youtubers that you disagree with, and call their views stupid or misleading where they are anything but, this isnt the first time you have done it either, you have gone from talking and explaining SAO lore to those interested to poking fun at those who in your eyes dont and be elitist jerk about it, you spent the whole begining making fun of an article that someone wrote. Sure this is your channel, do whatever you want, thats your right obviously, however the tone of your videos have changed drastically.
      Let me make this clear, these things are not misconceptions, these issues have been brought up by the product itself, by its presentation, it didnt come from stupidity, or people's inability to understand the situation, rather from the portrayal. Sao is a meme, because it is memeable. You always say how the story is deeper and all these issues have meaning and explanation in the novels/manga, and for all I know, you might be right, I dont know, however what those "misconceptions" are based off of, is the anime, for most of the fans the anime and the games are SAO, sure it can be frustrating, but those things are poorly explained, poorly protrayed and implemented.
      You can argue on many of these points but it comes down to you exaplaining something with your own opinion, like the very first point, we dont know if they could have had more servers, we dont know how the tech works, hence other interpretation isnt misconception or wrong, its just other intepretation. You didnt explain why those things are wrong, but how they could be if looked at differently (not for all the points mind you, some were well explained or were dumb to begin with)
      And just quickly about the hololens, you are correct of course, it doesnt have to be a flop, however we are clearly discussing gaming industry enviroment, thats why it was compared to a gaming console, who knows what the headset was actually used aside for sao, how much did it cost to develop and such, it easily could have been a flop even outside of it, but as a gaming device it is a flop certainly.
      And in regards to the seed, my knowledge of sao is really not all that deep tbh and I may have forgotten some details of course, however even if the situation itself wasnt so supernatural as to not being included in any kind of law, ever, I dont think Kayaba saying to Kirito that its for everyone, counts as it being open source, again we dont really know and as you said its a completely moot point since goverment is involved, however I dont see how someone bringing that point up is laughable. It is a stupid thing to worry aobut tho, one of those points that would never even come to my mind tbh :D
      Heh, didnt want to start a whole conversation but already too late, maybe I am being a bit negative about this videos, sorry if I insulted you personally (tho you were the one to call me uneducated, I hope you mean on the specific subject only) however its clear you are increasingly antagonistic towards certain parts of the fanbase and while I dont watch all your videos, I dont remember it being so prominent in those I have watched (I have watched many) And if I saw a video of someone making fun of you, questioning your capabilities, mental acuity, fanboyism or whatever I would stand up for you as well.
