I caught this one a little late but its so great to see the interest your kids have in there own repairs. I hope others see this and can do theres too.
My kids grew up in my shop now my grandkids are and all my kids went to trade school for mechanics or fabrication or welding except my youngest he will finish auto body and collision repair this year my girls taught their boyfriends how to change tires and oil I asked my oldest when she's teaching her's to rebuild an engine she's a good mechanic
SOOO glad I found this channel. What an incredible family. Andy you are the man. Your family is very very lucky to have you and the great men and women who came before you to be so blessed to have what you have. Thank God every single day and be grateful . Keep the videos coming!
That is so cool your teaching your kids how to do mechanic work and have your daughter in there doing that work with you thumbs up to you and your family
Love the fact that you have your kids involved in this to it the only way they learn ,I grew up in the school of hard knocks myself and self thought with help from dad , love your TH-cam videos buddy
My dad told us kids if you're going to drive you're going to work on it that lead to my passion of vehicles and restoring antique tractors all started as a kid with dad and grandpa my kids grew up in the shop now my grandkids are getting dirty in the shop my friends say I have a problem I started a salvage yard now I want to fix as many as I can instead of crush them
Great Video, I love how your kids are willing to get dirty and learn all this stuff!.......but I'd be pissed off if I had a 2 year old vehicle that already needed rotors, especially in the back!..
I came across your channel yesterday and was watching you working with your girls and your son and I just want to say Thank you for being such a great father. You have great kids. I'm a father of 5. 3 girls and 2 boys and now 4 grandchildren. I bet alot of the boys that your girls come across are pretty intimidated by your girls. Which that's ok. At least they will know how to take care of themselves. Thanks again.
My kids grew up in the shop and after trade school my daughter is now building dirt track engines for 3 guys and a gal that run the local tracks consistently up front they've all made the top 10 of 58 drivers the last 7 years
YOu never ceast to work sir as do you're kid's you're a great great father just like my father do,I admire a lot your great attitude you smile a lot you never give up on thing's that you are facing and giving hope always to those who are only toying w/ you're dream's.I hope that someone will be always like the you are, happy farming fixing & fabricating wish you all the best to you're family Sir Andy.
No doubt Andy, it's your daughter. Looks just like Sarah. You see the way she rips that hammer from juniors hands and starts whaling away and getting her hands dirty. Like I said its your girl for sure. Good for you Alex. And proud dad.
Those screws that hold the rotors on, they can be a bear sometimes. You can either use heat like you did or if you don't have access to a torch tool manufacturers make an impact driver. It has either phillips or slotted screwdriver bits that you insert in the end, then you put the tool on the screw and smack it with a hammer while twisting the tool counterclockwise to loosen it. They work pretty good, I got a Craftsman brand one that I've had for about 25 years. It's good that you are teaching your kids about auto repair. It gives them an understanding of how they can some day do it on their own. Growing up on a farm is a good thing for kids, they get to see a little bit of everything. I was a farm kid years ago and I learned a lot from it. That last little advice is important, always pump the brake pedal until it gets firm, it pushes the pads out close to the rotor.
This brings back memories as my father did the same teaching myself, brother and five older sisters on maintenance projects (now if my sisters only would of LISTENED).... lol, good video...
Great video watching a dad work with his kids on a maintenance task. Always discuss safety practices first before starting the job. I know it is hard teaching an old dog new tricks, but the kids pick it up fast and will use their personal protection equipment for the rest of their lives. Eye protection, knee pads, hearing protection, and cut proof gloves (where applicable) become the norm. The use of jack stands is a standard, even large wooden blocks will suffice in a pinch. Also, breathing and long hair protection must be utilized when necessary. I spent half of my life in agricultural maintenance and the other half performing maintenance on small aircraft and large corporate jets. I would do anything now to get my knees and my hearing back.
It's a really nice shop to work in. It sure beats laying in the driveway in the snow or mud trying to get your vehicle back together so you can get to work. NY is sure hard on vehicles. The roads are so bad on the north eastern side where I live, I had a rear rotor completely come apart on my pick-up from being sand blasted by the salt, sand, and gravel being sprayed at it from the front tire. I've only ever driven Chevy trucks up here and they rust amazingly fast and in places you'd never expect rust due to this climate and terrain
I had an 89 Chevy the frame rotted between the spring hangers and I could put my fist through the holes right behind the cab luckily KS doesn't have inspections so I cut a chunk out and welded in 3/8 wall rectangle tubes with the ends capped and plated the splice on the outside all my kids drove it as a school car and it's still hauling firewood I welded it up 23 years ago it's got 487k on it now
good to see you teaching your kids some basics stuff on cars just have them put jack stands or even the tires from the car under it just in case the jack came down better to replace a tire then a kid
Pump brakes before moving, what did you use for the slide bolts lube. I had a bent slide pin . Nice to teach the kids. Love the torque wrench like you would on a tractor.
Andrew, how many kids do you have. She doesn't look like the one that was running the chopper. No wonder you all have so much going on. Mama needs a break. Lol . Good job teaching them how yo take care of their own car. I really enjoy you guys sharing your life's with us. I can't get over how much equipment you all have.
You must of had to ask Mama. Cows are easier to take care of than kids. And yes they are a joy, but what a lot of people don't realize is you are only going to get out of what. You put in. Lol. Kinda like cows.LMAO. I still say you need to invet in a armory of shotguns. Lol.
Good teaching moment and making family memories. The only thing I would have done was to have her tie her hair up. It’s dangerous around any power tool. Catching it while using the impact couple rip a huge patch off to the bone. I’ve seen accidents like this before. Safety is number one.
I always clean the rim centre and the brake disc then grease the centre of the wheel to prevent the tire from seizing on , had a Ford wheel seize on to the disc so tight couldn’t remove the wheel with a 6 pound sledgehammer, if you every have a flat in the backcountry ud be hooped , never and issue after grease .😁
Do they put salt on the winter roads in your state? Those rotors where really seized on the hub. They use tonnes of salt here in Ontario in the winter along with brine which is even worse as it seeps into every nook and cranny and causes rust. Nice work with your daughter... My daughter will help me do her brakes next time they're due LOL
A light coating of never seize on the metal to metal mating surfaces ( not the swept area of the brake pads) will make life a lot easier next time. Especially on the wheel.
It’s great to see the younger generation getting involved learning something and getting their hands dirty lol! First time watching your video are you by chance located in NY state ? Thanks for sharing 👍
I like too see kids getting a little greasy and dirty. As a retired farmer at 77 Yrs, old, most kids don’t have any common sense and no mechanical knowledge. I always said I’d rather have common sense over education. You may make more money with a big education but probably save-about the same with common sense and the ability to do most of you’re mechanic problems especially on the farm😁🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
This popped up today. I remember watching it when it was first published. One thing I often see in your videos is you guys kneeling down on the concrete. I was taught from my uncle a long time ago when I was about 8 or nine to always always keep a rag nearby to put on the ground,so you can kneel on it instead of the hard ground. I’ve seen so man6 ppl not do this and suffer from painful arthritis as they get older. Joint pain is one of the worst. It will make your life miserable. This is one time I can hear the cows. They sound upset.
The world needs ALOT more Fathers like him.
Good way to teach the kids the value of having a car to drive is for them to understand what it takes to keep it working. Great family you have there.
Thanks for the great videos. Always nice to see someone teaching the younger folks how things get done. Nicer still to see they are interested.
Good to see young kids wanting to learn. You do have some very hard working kids and they are not afraid to try and learn new things
Thats nice to see you showing the kids how to do their own repairs
Not many kids get to learn this way anymore. Wonderful thing to see
Sad but true
Its nice to see the youngest child not fighting or arguing with the oldest child and the same goes for any child in between and vice versa.
love this video of young brother helping Big Sis fixing her car ! nice to see young generation working like this !
I caught this one a little late but its so great to see the interest your kids have in there own repairs. I hope others see this and can do theres too.
Love this video ! Great way to raise kids... teach them how things work, and how to do their own work on vehicles ! God bless this family.

All your children are great workers 👍 you raised em right
Love the fact that you have your kids involved in this to it the only way they learn ,I grew up in the school of hard knocks myself and self thought with help from dad , love your TH-cam videos buddy
Teaching your kid’s hand’s on experience, good parenting.
My dad told us kids if you're going to drive you're going to work on it that lead to my passion of vehicles and restoring antique tractors all started as a kid with dad and grandpa my kids grew up in the shop now my grandkids are getting dirty in the shop my friends say I have a problem I started a salvage yard now I want to fix as many as I can instead of crush them
your a good dad, nothing like teaching the kids, knowledge is power. next time use the vehicle jack with them 🤩
Great Video, I love how your kids are willing to get dirty and learn all this stuff!.......but I'd be pissed off if I had a 2 year old vehicle that already needed rotors, especially in the back!..

It's great to see the kids getting involved with fixing cars that they use!
Grea to see young kids taking an interest in maintaining their vehicle, especially a young lady. She's putting a lot of boys to shame.
I agree
My kids grew up in the shop and after trade school my daughter is now building dirt track engines for 3 guys and a gal that run the local tracks consistently up front they've all made the top 10 of 58 drivers the last 7 years
good dad , good points ! hard to find this kind of relationship between 9 yrs and 20 year old kids . Kodo to Mom and Dad
Good idea Andy showing the kids the rope thanks for showing the video 👍🇺🇸

Nice to see little brother showing sis how it's done.
Got to love that salt up there in NY. Have to beat the tires to get them off. At least it got disc brakes on all four corners.

It’s awesome your whole family is hands on wasn’t like that for my grandfather
His son could drive a double thru New York City traffic, now imagine what she can do after his son teaches her what he learned from a great Dad.
This brings back memories as my father did the same teaching myself, brother and five older sisters on maintenance projects (now if my sisters only would of LISTENED).... lol, good video...

Thanks Jim
