Hello!! I'm a Phlebotomist in a huge hospital and my recommendation is that when you start your externship, you show your full potential and be confident in yourself. Hopefully you get a job offer during your externship and you will be able to gain experience and work in a hospital. I have a few videos on Phlebotomy and working in a hospital. Good luck!
I’m 68 years old and went back to take a phlebotomy course. I passed it to my surprise. Had to memorize quite a bit; bit if I was in my 20’s it would have been easier. We had 114 questions on the exam to get certified.
I know this video is 1 year old but GIRL! ITS SO INFORMATIONAL!! thank u thank u so much. Ive been searching alot on youtube and i finaly found a video that talks about exactly what i needed to hear! God bless!
I’m a student at CSUF too! I have to get experience in the medical field in order to apply for PA schools. I did the program through Phlebotomy Training Specialist. I did the accelerated class after my spring semester in May. I have my externship in December right after my fall semester. I’m super nervous!! I haven’t poked in 6 months. I will review my notes and the book again before I start my externship. Wish me luck!
Wow I just finished my phlebotomy course and I’ll have my exam in two weeks and I honestly would’ve love more practice more venipunctures and capillaries we only had one day for that and I loved it but I wanted more!!
I’m so glad I watched your video! I’ve really been thinking about becoming a phlebotomist, I wanna start up my medical career. This helped me make up my mind ❤️
Wow my program took seven months and the prerequisites were A&P, English 1101, Intro to Health care, medical terminology and Intro to computers. You are lucky
Great commentary! Waiting on my Cali license right now, so just been looking at people like me who want to 'break in to medical. Only thing I'd say is do a re-edit and cut out all the "pretty much cos there were like 20. Otherwise, seeya on the floor eventually!
Definitely noted! A few others mentioned that and I realized how annoying it got real fast. Good luck with the job search! I noticed a lot of phleb positions have some medical assistant duties tied to it as well.
Are you in Northern or SOuthern California? I plan to move to California, once Ive obtained certification and licensure as a Medical Lab Technologist, here in Florida. I'm currently working at a hospital as a Food Service worker, -I had to get my foot in the door. But I'm so done with working in Food so I'm applying to a certificate program that my school offers for Phlebotomy so I can be that till I become a Medical Lab Technologist, because I can't do food anymore. The Phlebotomy is about one semester, 165 hours of credit, hopefully I'll be taking it in August of this year. I'm anticipating. Thank you for this video.
Hi! :-) I am from SoCal. Good luck! It's not as bad as it seems especially if you have experience as a Lab tech. I'd recommend volunteering at your hospital and just network with workers there. Best of luck to you and your transition to California.
Just finished my phlebotomy program passed the class with an A. Currently studying for the NHA exam & externships. I’m excited but still a little nervous.
Yay! Congratulations ☺️ hard work pays off. It is honestly a bit nerve racking when you start at the internship site but as long as you have had plenty of practice with your classmates, you should be fine :-) I’m unsure how different every site is but mine only really used gold tops and purple tops.

Just found your channel, loving it. I live in LA, I'm applying to nursing school and I currently work at office work that I hate. Since, I just need my Physiology class to finish my requirements for nursing school. I would love to quit my office job and be involved in the medical field while getting paid. Would you still recommend me to apply for a phlebotomist program, and get certified before getting into my nursing school? Should I apply to my nursing program after I get certified or as soon as I finish my class (Physiology) like I had planned? Thank you so much
Hi nenni, I believe nursing school will help you with that certification. I would say to go into nursing school prior to doing phlebotomy just because you will have clinicals. Phlebotomy is pricey, but quick. The program for me was 2K. It would be nice to get certified and get a job but again it is all up to you. I think its best to apply for nursing school after your complete your class. Best of luck to you ! :)

Hello thanks for the video i have the same book do you think the questions at the back of the book are similar to the questions on the state exam i am so nervous. I take my test in a week
Hi Sharmain, I went to AUMT. The exam consisted mainly of patient prep, safety and compliance and routine collections. Special collection and processing only contained a handful of questions. I would just say to remember your order of draw. The exam isn't too difficult, don't overthink it. :-) Good luck!!
hi. :) i like your channel and your topics. i want to study more before i study and pay with a class. just a question, what are the best books and videos that i can buy, so i can self-study first. can you help me? :)
I just finished my course yesterday. It was $695 + $55 of mandatory CPR. We had the exact same book as this young lady and it's NOT NEARLY enough! It's ONLY a workbook, NOT a text book. We also had a class of only 7 and had to achieve 30 draws in only 8 classes! Exhausting, not nearly enough education bin my opinion. I am not even close to being ready for the exam. :(
Hi. I took a phlebotomy class at my local community college. The class itself was around $750, plus 2 books which were about $230. The class lasted about 8 weeks, 2 days a week. After the class is finished, the college places you with a clinic/hospital to do your clinicals (externship). For us, we had to do 100 hours and get 100 successful sticks before we could complete clinicals. I'm pretty sure most places don't pay you for your externship. I just finished my clinicals this week. Now on the find a job!!
Hi! I'm currently a phlebotomy student at a local private institution, my program in total was $3k (includes scrubs, textbooks, externship placement, labs). Due to the pandemic, most externship sites within my area closed down but I'm sure most schools have backup externship plans if they want to give you the option of fastening the process for you to get on the field asap. Externships sites do not pay you, but I believe depending on the site they do offer you meals to compensate!
Hi Bianca, I think it is helpful and makes you a better candidate when applying to positions. It all overlaps with each other so you could get a MA job that does blood draws and other Back Office stuff.
