A good way that I remembered my order of draw was
    Y- You (Yellow / Cultures )
L- Like ( Lt. Blue / Sodium Citrate)
    R- Really (Red / Gels )
G- Good ( Lt.Green Lithium Heprin or drk. green Sodium Heprin )
    L- Looking ( Lavender / EDTA)
G- Guys (Grey / Sodium Floride or Oxalate)
-Yellow, Grenn , Lavender and grey tubes are inverted 8-10 time
-Lt. Blue is inverted 3-4 and needs to be full fill draw
-serums and gels are inverted 5 times.
Hope this helped a few! Good Luck on your exams.

Hi DJ! Sorry to hear you're struggling with your school, but you're not the first person I hear say similar things. It's pretty terrible that this is so common! I own a Facebook group called "#ThatClinicalInstructor Allied Health Tutoring and Study" where you may find a bit more support! Come on in, and feel free to shoot me a message there anytime. I promise it gets better!
The dark green lithium heparin tubes do come before the lavender EDTA tubes your instructor is correct. On the NHA exam, I see the questions do NOT contain both the light green/mint AND dark green tubes. It's one or the other. However, when it comes to order of the draw for this questions, it's going to be about the same. Assume if for some strange reason you have to draw a mint and a dark green, draw the mint first an then dark green. Otherwise, when it comes to dark green lithium heparin, keep it before the lavender and you're straight! I hope that helps!

    • @ThatClinicalInstructor
      @ThatClinicalInstructor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Hi Dee! That question is a bit tricky. Usually anything having to do with a blood component count is drawn in a lavender tube, but clotting studies are drawn in a light blue tube. To my knowledge, platelet aggregation isn't just one tube, but a test panel, and involves drawing both a lavender and a light blue tube. I hope this helps! Thanks for your question!

Green is before lavender which you did not mention. There is a reason for the order of draw.
So why are you different from CLSI?

Yellow SPS tubes are NOT used to save money on bottles. The blood from SPS tubes are transferred to Bottles once in the lab for standard/routine blood cx. So that literally doesn't make sense, because that is actually an added expense to use SPS tubes and transfer devices And bottles. SPS tubes are used when the Cx ordered is very specific and typical CX bottles aren't appropriate.
RED tops come before SSTs and the glass red before plastic. LORD if someone draws a Mint tube before a red because you told them separator tubes are next....girl ....shame on you. Griener Vacuette reds are the ONLY reds with a gel barrier. They do not have gold or tiger top SSTS. Their cap is red with a yellow ring. You would have confused TF out of me with this OOD explanation here.
NO you can NOT draw all other tubes in whatever order you want after lavender. OMG. Tans must be drawn before gray. Royal blues are either drawn with the serums(red stripe) or with the EDTAs(purple stripe). Royal blues are best drawn from a dedicated stick and NOT included in an order of draw, and even then, when drawing both, you must draw them Red then Purple. ACD tubes will be drawn wherever the Lab says to draw them, and it literally depends on what other labs are being drawn and what test is going in the ACD solution A or B.
Also INR is NOT a test unti itself. It's not even a test. It's a mathematical formula the lab uses to interpret the PT result and express the results in a universally understood format.
Glucose by itself is NOT put on ICE holy shit. That's lactic acid you dunce!
Really? Only CBCs go in Lavs? You sure?
Bilirubin and B12 is NOT put on ice. Holy Shit.
B12 is also fine under indoor lighting for 4 hours.
