Eddie Freemantle tipped Cockney Rebel in the Observer a week before the 2007 Guineas.I was at a music festival in Killkenny,Ireland the following Saturday, and mentioned the article to seven others.Five minutes before the off,we found a bookie and lumped on at 28/1.The rest of the weekend was a bit of a blur.
🤣🤣🤣. Sea the Stars was a stayer. Frankel was a true miler. If it was over 1 mile 2, I think STS would win. If you watch Frankel's performance in the Queen Anne, that is easily the best performance over a mile I will ever see
Great memories there. 2000 Guineas winners in the past decade, Sea The Stars and Frankel most notably have gone on to further Group 1 glory. I wonder if the 2014 winner of today's race will follow suit.
George washington n Frankel looked most impressive i remember watching sea the stars who looked to be cantering n went on to prove what a superstar he was imo 2000 gns is hardest of classics to win. Frankel was immense.
George Washington looked impressive and everyone seemed to be hailing a champ at the time but, looking back, he beat nothing (the 2nd was a bad Derby winner running over the wrong trip and the 3rd only ever won a maiden) and only won poor running of the QE2 thereafter. Real champs don't lose more than they win, as George did. IMHO he was the best of a bad bunch.
Two different races, two different horse and most of all, two different strategies. Abdullah wanted Frankel to destroy everything, so he was ridden till the tank was empty. Sea The Stars was ridden effeciently, cause he had the setback in March that year and was a bit on a count. So Kinane and Oxx opted to ride him just enough.
@@signoresantinoburnett1169 Are you serious? It was a freak race. Not saying that the horses that Frankel beat in his 2000 were better animals by any stretch, but that was their first races as 3yo's. Frankel went on to beat far more G1 winners if you drew a form line. STS wouldn't see which way Frankel went over a mile.
The 2000 Guineas has always been my favourite classic, the Derby rarely ever has more than one real class act in it. El Gran Senor, Rock of Gibraltar, Pennekamp and Night of Thunder all won class guineas and I had always thought the most impressive winner was Zafonic, but Frankel was the only one who made me say “what the F**k” by half-way.
In Horse racing you rarely get "a meeting of champions" (as you get in sports such as boxing/tennis say) The 1971 2000 G was a rare exception Brigadier Gerrard, Mill Reef and the 2yo champion My swallow was one such (very rare race).
@@johncahill3903 Not invalid at all " a meeting of such horses as Brigadier Gerrard and Mill Reef plus the two year old champion My Swallow is exactly as described. I have never watched any race on Champions day or Champions weekend that can boast 3 horses of that quality. Two of them of course would go onto be considered all time greats .
@MrSmid888 A year is a long time to reply to any comments, even though they are ill informed. It's silly to compare times for the same race, especially in the UK. Example STS 2000gns time compared to Frankel's. Fact is that STS ran on a nice still day, slight wind, Frankel in front was running into a 45mph headwind. Think about it
There will never be another Brigadier Gerard,Frankel would have been swallowed by the great Brigadier if he had run like that against him.The turn of foot from the Brigadier at the dip is one hell of a sight,He switched to turbo mode there and Mill Reef was no match against him.So does the top class My swallow.People can say whatever they want but Brigadier would beat frankel over a mile at HQ on any day.
I agree frankle is probably the best horse we have seen but his guineas win is definitely not he beat a poor lot in not a fast time and on good to firm ground
Im too young to remember brigadeer, but im gonna have a look at him after this video. To say he'd have swallowed frankel he must have been a vintage winner. I remember when badcrooks wouldnt lay a bet on george washington, im guessing connections lumped on 😆
Thank you RACING UK

¡BEAUTIFUL!
¡THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Frankel's performance puts the rest in perspective. By far the best ever over a mile.
Did any of his competitors in the guineas win a GR1? He'd never get near Sea The Stars at a mile.

El Gran Senor for me. What a race.
Agree
Frankel Truely Amazing trained by a late great magician.
Cecil was a magician alright...he made Frankel disappear from all the big 1m4f group 1 races for two seasons!!!
Yes, because the horse didn't stay 🎈
Amazing video! Just like the juddmonte memories video, FRANKEL is in a league of his own
He beat a Listed winner from the all weather by 5 lengths!!
Sea the stars faster time in the guineas

Sea the Stars best horse this century, from the Guineas to the Derby to Arc.
Gourgeous George
Cockney Rebel my favourite. Won me a lot £££
He's 15 lengths clear!
Have always loved Night Of Thunder's finish in 2014, brilliant Fallon
Frankel the wonder horse

The first 8 home in Sea the Stars' race ran a faster time than Frankel's winning time, in that case... What would that mean though?
