I’m Welsh, I come from a village 15 miles from where Ren is from, on the island of Anglesey. Welsh is fairly widely spoken still, and there is a push for more people to speak it, to keep the language alive.

This one really touched my son. He has an autoimmune disease and was 33 when he was diagnosed seven years ago. He's in constant pain and has really bad side effects from the medication. He doesnt let it get the better of him and is going to continue to work as long as he's able. He said it struck a note with him, hes a big Ren fan. Thanks for the reaction guys.

Ren brings me so much solace, to understand someone out there understands how much pain can hold you in the darkness. But I was able to climb out of the depths of hell bc Ren inspired me to find the light in the darkness. No matter how bad thing get sometimes I now look for the good. ❤❤❤

BP and Don are my favorite team of Ren reactors. They often quarrel like an old married couple, but the mutual affection still shows. Expect the unexpected, from Don curating the media he ingests, to BP reading the book of Job looking for answers for Ren (I was really touched by that). Thanks for existing, guys.

Ironically, I was 33 when I injured my back for the first time. Now almost 15 years later, I would absolutely go back and choose to live without it. Pain absolutely broke me, and I have had to suffer through a nightmarish agony of pain and torture. Yes, I have become stronger due to the pain, stronger than I ever thought possible. But I was always this strong, and just didn't know it. Living with the knowledge that I will live in life-altering pain every day for the rest of my life, until the day I die. I will never do anything to hasten it along, but I will be glad to see death when my time comes. Death became an old friend years ago, because then the pain will finally stop. Sorry if this is too much truth for some, but just had to speak on an issue so deeply personal to me.

The pain ren has is so much more but I feel all the pain we live in life, be it physical or emotional is what shapes us and that's why he says what he does. Pain is the author that directs you life, the teacher that compounds you're lessons and what you were birthed from (mother. Seems she had a tonne of pain)

This song is at the same level as Hi Ren! I truly enjoy every beautiful word! Also the switch-ups and wordplay/rhyme schemes are master class! 😊😊😊

I think the inherent metaphysical question of whether it's better to become a generational musical talent through his suffering or a healthy pop star is so succinctly expressed in the "Sinner man, sinner man, irony could kill a man, Pain makes money when the music lands". This is an incredibly powerful piece of music to me.

  • @reactivereplays5666

I have heard this song over 70 times now. I STILL bob and weave to the beat every time!
"Bones are the home where the devil rests" (Lymes disease attacked his bones).
"I watched him tie a rope and jump". He cried, begged, pleaded, and eventually gave up on and curse his god/god's (they were dead to him). He then, bowed to his new god (his disease) and begged for mercy.....
His bed was both a "tomb" and a "womb"; that births new problems and ailments... Also, "Lucky number 13; just my luck". 13th plays into the song in a few ways I have seen explained but cannot recall. Something about 13 years and side note the album was released on Friday Oct. 13th ("Friday the 13th").

Irish, Manx, and Scots are Goidelic languages i.e. Gaelic. Breton, Cornish & Welsh are Brythonic languages. All 6 have a common "root" as a Celtic language but evolved in a different way, primarily how they made the "kw" sound. Breton, Cornish & Welsh adopted a "p" sound and they became known as P Celt. Irish, Manx and Scots kept their "q" sound and became known as Q Celt (Sorry I wrote this before I heard Don say part of it)

Pain is a perception. By default, we have no comparative except personal experience. Same problem as my Blue may not be your Blue. Try to relate to another's perception, and we only have to go by their expressions to obtain a sense of it. Ren's art is his expression, and thus, the feel of the music, those deep brass tone hits, the dichotomy of a singing violin, the lyrics, the cadence, the critique of religious faith as compared to the moral lessons that faith contains. These are the conflicts of perception. It is up to you to try to empathize and gain understanding of the message, which (ironically), is your own perception as you experience Ren's art, the expression of his pain.

    Had to google:
"Goidelic languages or Gaelic languages, a linguistic group that is one of the two branches of the Insular Celtic languages, including:
Primitive Irish or Archaic Irish, the oldest known form of the Goidelic (Gaëlic) languages
Old Irish or Old Gaelic, used c. AD 600-900
Middle Irish or Middle Gaelic, used c. AD 900-1200
Irish language (Gaeilge), including Classical Modern Irish and Early Modern Irish, c. 1200-1600)
Gaelic type, a typeface used in Ireland
Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig), historically sometimes called Erse in Scots and English
Canadian Gaelic (Gàidhlig Chanada or A' Ghàidhlig Chanadach), a dialect of Scottish Gaelic spoken in the Canadian Maritime region
Manx language (Gaelg or Gailck), Gaelic language with Norse elements"
So he wasn't so off, though didn't know exactly what it was.

Yes, but he does deal with the what-ifs through his music, a lot. We all have to process that somehow, bc that kind of reflection for a human is not just wishful thinking, it's assessing your own performance to see if there was something you could have done better, so to keep it in mind for the eventual next time...
He does it in music, so we can relate to that in our own ways

Welsh is Languague in the celtic language alongside Gaelic (Ireland) and Gaelic (pronounced differently Scottish) Cornish (cornwall) and Breton (Brittany, France. Many of those language are very small or nearly extinct. Welsh was succesfully revived in Wales, and I think a lot of western Ireland speaks Gaelic. I’ve suffered from chronic illness for the last 3 years. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease because of a genetic mutation that causes me to get persistent infections, particularly in my chest. Living with nearly constant pain is something that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. I know that I have to tough through it because I have to work, make a living, create a life, etc. But damn does it make things exhausting sometimes. So yes, pain is necessary for growth, but even the concept of whether or not that growth is worth it comes into question at times.

Great point. Music has a way of being able to affect our mood. We can decide which music we feel like listening to and put it on. Alternately, we could be in a certain mood and a song comes to us in some random way and can then completely alter our mood or even intensify the mood we are in, etc. That's the amazing power of music.

If you felt unimaginable pain for a longer time your whole life gets head over heels. Your status quo changes. The view of your world changes. Many people become spiritual after that experience. Your vision and senses become very sharp. You see many connections between causes and events. I think that is why ren became like he is today.

For the U.K. being such a small place (can fit it into Texas 2.8times) it has many languages. Being from Scotland we have 3 languages Scottish Gaelic, Old Scott’s and English. The one pain that I felt that was the worst was childbirth, twice! Since then other pains plague me, but nothing nearly as close as childbirth. Thankfully it is normally short lived, and for some stupid reason, most women barely remember it. 2nd worse pain I get periodically are cluster tension headaches, sort of like migraines, and last a long time. So yes Ren I did have pain. I still have pain but it's different now.

Gaelic is the language of Ireland and Scottish Gaelic is from Scotland. Welsh is all together different. For context, the British pretty beat languages out these countries, especially the Scottish after the uprising in 1745 after Culloden.

I respect everyone’s choices and perspective, but I will never understand those who distance themselves from others’ pain simply to avoid facing their own, choosing instead to surround themselves only with lighthearted and entertaining things. I understand that everyone has their own way of approaching art and deeper themes, but don’t you think that if you can’t process certain types of pain, it’s because you also distance yourself from others’ experiences, losing the chance to use them as guidance to face your own?
I love Ren in all his facets - playful, romantic, dark, sad, depressive, a storyteller. That’s why it surprises me when someone says, “Great song, but I prefer him when he’s having fun.” It’s like taking a painting and removing part of it just because we don’t like it, destroying the original message. If someone wants to constantly have fun, I’m happy for them, but I don’t believe that we humans are here just to entertain ourselves. If that were the case - especially considering the less healthy forms of entertainment - we’d probably be extinct by now.

to clarify, Gaelic is the language of the Gaels, typically when people talk about it they are usually referring to Irish Gaelic, although Scottish Gaelic also exists, and Manx (Isle of Mann) is also in the Gaelic family
Gaelic itself is a branch of the Celtic language group which also contains the Brittonic languages: Breton (from Brittany, the peninsula on the northwest of France) Cornish (from Cornwall the peninsula on the south-west corner of Briton) and Welsh. The rest of the Celtic language group, Gaulish (i.e. the language of the Gauls), is dead, wiped out by Rome and the Franks.
The brittonic languages are not why "they were always beefing"; England beefs with it's neighbors because it was colonized by the Romans, then the Angles, then the Saxons (hey notice those last two it might be where Anglo-Saxon comes from). if you look at a map of where Celtic languages exist today it mostly coincides with places that avoided colonization from the Romans and the Germans. this includes Brittany, France much like Britain was colonized by Romans and then the Franks (another German group)

BP, why were you being harsh to Don? Sheesh. Don, it's ok to not have a dictionary answer to a question, BP is being unnecessarily harsh. You knew that Gaelic was a language and you associated it with the same region. You knew a little, even if you couldn't verbalize it at the time.

Would he even be the artist we know as Ren if he hasn't had the pain?
I loved how greed got the most attention. As an atheist, I don't even believe in the concept of sin. Greed is a trait, an action, a goal (for capitalists) , and very possibly the cause of all human ills.
I don't understand how any of these can be considered "deadly" sins except greed. Greed informs envy and gluttony, and sloth and wrath, and even lust. But lust doesn't forster greed. Sloth doesn't foster wrath.
I just love how Greed got the most attention in this song.
