Yes I will remember those experiences for the rest of my life as well. Fond memories fishing and crabbing, eeling, and Jacking at night with lanterns on a moonless night!
Thanks, this was a really great video. I just modified one of my traps to work just like yours, and I'll bait it tomorrow ( in Central PA). I saw you bait with a small bluegill- hands down the most effective bait I've found for catching snappers here. But the best part about your video is seeing your young kids helping cook and eat the meat. Great stuff.
I can not explain to you guys how much I love this video!! I've watched it several times. My great grandfather was a turtle trapper and I have taken it up. I plan to hand it down to my son one day. Keep up the great videos and God bless!!!
I just built 1/2 a dozen of these designs and I have 1 major questions: HOW big is the gap between the metal turtle ramp in the front and the bungee secured net? I initially thought that it would be big enough for a turtle to poke their head through (like 2 inches or so) but looking at yours it looks like there is barely a gap between the ramp and the net. I have mine currently hovering about an inch but I don't want to make it difficult for turtles to enter, or make it too easy to find the exit. I see that the trap is about 36" long, about 16" square, and the ramp is about 8 inches long and is inclined 4".
Beautiful family! I really like your traps. I've been researching various ways of building them, but so many just rely on luck, hoping the turtle decides to use the trap for sunning and happen to fall in. Yours are much better.
Kids will long remember catching turtles with family and friends. And the fun of eating community meal they got to take part in. And their masculine dad and uncle caught for them. I grew up in city w/o turtles, but love this family vid.
I will be making some of these type traps. Enjoyed the video would have loved a short tutorial on cleaning the turtle. Do you "feed out" the turtles before you clean them ???????????
I just found one of my ducks being eaten by a snapping turtle in our pond.. He was eating it alive by the neck.. I hope that your trap works for me as I will build one tomorrow. Thank you for the vidio. it was very helpful..
awesome video !! don't listen to the haters I love catching turtles too but I just let them go . Everyone needs to stop hating if u don't like what these guys are doing don't watch it it's as easy as that
A nice video and sure looks tasty :). I'm glad you did not put in the butchering part as i have turtles as pets lol, but i'm not against regulated farming :)
only 1 to 5 percent of baby turtles survive to adulthood.that goes for the snapping turtle. many predators destroy nests eating the eggs or killing the baby turtles.catching snapping turtles and killing them puts more pressure on them to survive.killing the mature adults puts more pressure on them to survive.
you are not allowed to trap snapping turtles between the month of april and the end of june.that is when the females are nesting.you are taking turtles over the limit.hope the game warden catches you.
I love the way you're raising the youngins. It will stick with them their whole life.

good video! what are the dimensions on your traps? is that 4"x4" livestock wire? thanks
Great job! I really like the design of your trap. I use a floating Quarles trap, but I'm going to give your style trap a try.
That trap seriously needs a door at one end. reaching in to pull a snapping turtle out, doesn't look very bright
I am usually againsed these things (vegan :P) but you seem to be fishing responsibly and following the rules.
Props to you for that!
Great video. My pond is over run with turtles they eat up all my bream and other small fish. I bet I got a hundred of them!
Seem like down home people great videowhere did you get the breader box ? What size wire do you use for the taps ?
Very helpful, what's the best bait
Where did you get the containers you used to batter the turtles? That would be very useful!

I'm wanting to build a similar trap instead of using jugs all the time. Would it be possible to make a how to video on building these traps? Thanks!
great video enjoyed

I had a red-eared slider (pet shop turtle) like that as a pet for many years, I named her Margaret
picking a turtle up by the tail is like picking your dog up by the tail. it injures the spine of the turtle.
They are going to kill it anyways so...... Who cares??..... NOT ME
How does someone get hold of Mike regarding turtles, thanks.
Hey shecky308, how can I help?
