    Caveat emptor. Bought this set too. Only ever used the small paring knife so far. Noticed eventually the coating started to chip off the blade. Didn't think much about it until I cut into a stick of butter one day and was appalled to see the coating slough off onto the pat of butter. Notified Cuisinart. Never heard a thing. No response. Crickets.

      Ours are still like new and they get used every day. I see comments from others with similar problems and wonder if they had a bad batch. Costco should take them back with no questions. Thanks for watching.

      That same thing happened to me. I was mortified to think had I not noticed my guests would have been eating bits of teflon coating. I also was cutting through butter.

    Hey Red, That's a great set of knives. We were at Costco last Monday and bought the same set. We love them! On TH-cam just now and saw your video about the knife set.The easy way to open package is to score the perforations on the back first, makes it easy to open! Keep the great videos coming✌🏻️

    Was at Costco yesterday and saw those, same price I think.
    I was thinking of buying a set, but I don't have room. lol

      I had a drawer full of old knives that I tossed to fit these in. For the price they are decent knives. Just so many temptations in Costco. Thanks for watching.

      Every time I go to Costco or BJ's, it's like Christmas shopping. lol
      I bought a $15 set with the wooden block about 15 years ago, and they are still good.
      Came with 6-steak knives, plus a bunch of others.

    The coating on similar knives I purchased at another retailer wore off. I also wondered where it went, tossed the ones I bought. I’ll be interested to see how this set works out for you.

      I never had a coated knife before so I am wondering about that also. That coating really keeps stuff from sticking so I am hoping it lasts. Thanks for watching.

    I would have picked the same knife you did. It looked like the tomato slices only had one side, nice and thin! LOL The long bladed one and serrated may be better for uncooked meats. I've had a professional knife set for over 35 years, lucky me, a gift. Looks like you won the lottery on these. Nice to see you back also.

      Any knife set that cuts straight with my left hand is a great find. Time will tell how they hold up. They all cut great but the Santoku knife is the most comfortable for me. Have a couple rainy days now that are giving me a chance to catch up on the backlog of videos I have lined up. Thanks for watching.

    I've used a fine diamond stone to sharpen and remove nicks from ceramic knives. I think most chipping is from handling, but I also worried about bits ending up in our food. So I don't like them, went back to steel.

    • @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
      @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like the ceramic because they are light but as you say where did the chips go. For the price l decided to try this set and hope the coating lasts. Thanks for watching.

      Costco dropped the price to $9.00 and sold them out. This is an old discontinued set and definitely not worth $38. Thanks for watching .

    I guess my wife and I will have to go to Costco this weekend and buy the set. You swayed us to buy the Nordicware cookie sheets at Costco too. My wife made your maple syrup walnut biscotti again yesterday. It must be the tenth time since we saw you and your wife making them.
    About to watch your Fall cleanup 2018 next.

      If you need some new knives they are a good low cost set. We use those cookie sheets all the time and the wife wants another set the next time they are on sale. You had more biscotti then me. Just about everything my wife baked in the last couple months had zucchini in it. I am going to ask for a batch tomorrow. Thanks for watching.

    I bought 2 of these about 8 months ago and they started showing their awful quality about 6 weeks ago. The black coating started chipping away into my food. I noticed it when I was cutting butter. This is not cool to me. It's truly sad because they were awesome and my favorite knives, but you can't have black paint or metal flaking off into your food.

    • @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
      @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We use ours every day and they are still like new. We don't put them in the dishwasher because I read the detergents can damage coatings like that. Return them to Costco as it seems yours are defective. Thanks for watching.

    I think the non stick coatings are applied for aesthetics reasons. Onions and celery were sticking to the knifes.

      That is not sticking in my book. When you get a smooth cut with moisture it's a vacuum bond that happens with any flat bladed knife.

    • @corneliusevazan1284
      @corneliusevazan1284 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have you come into a situation that the coating helped repel what you were cutting? Is it worth it in your opinion to pay extra for coated knives?

    • @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
      @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's more of a gimmick that really doesn't make a better knife. It helps some when cutting sticky things like fruitcakes but is not worth paying extra for.

  • @usmi225

    My wife and I found and picked up the Cuisinart knives today October 7th at Costco for same price. Boy, you're not the only one that had a hard time getting them out of packing box. We just washed all knives including sheaths/plastic holders. I think we will let the plastic holders air dry before putting knives in. What did you do? Did you wash holders as well?

      They dry quick plus being stainless they shouldn't be affected by moisture. We just soaked the covers in hot soapy water and rinsed them. Costco has some great deals. Thanks for watching.

    Well I hope the knives work out for you, but for my money I would rather have Cutco knifes. 100% lifetime free sharpening and/or replacement of every product they sell. We got our set when we married 45 yrs ago and still going strong. And there made in the USA (in New York state as a matter of fact)

      My sister has a set of Cutco knives that cost $1,000.00 and I hate them. They are not comfortable to use handles and most are ground to one side making it hard to get a perfect cut when you are left handed. I keep telling her to toss them and buy a good set but she continues going to those Cutco parties and buying more. This set works good for me so far and for 13 bucks I don't care how long it lasts.Thanks for watching.

      I used to be a chef and had cutco knives in the late 80s-late 90s. I loved them and at the time my dad was a master chef and he had hinkles. He swore by those and i enjoyed them. But of all knives i used professionally, cutco were the best and most all the chefs except the sous chef used cutco. These look like a decent set of home knives. Ill be watching to see if they last.. look nice as well.
