      if you make multiple clips into a compound clip you can retime them as one. you do lose the ability to do anything else as individual clips though.

      the multi picture thing is because of something some people do where they break a sequence down to individual frames (i don't know why) so when you bring in files with numbered names it assumes you want them merged back together. renaming the file to not have sequential numbers should fix it. this one plagues me from time to time and it is annoying.

    As for bringing multiple images simultaneously, if they are named in sequence, by default they will stay in sequence, and you can change this by going to Media Page, Media Storage Window, Top right-hand corner three dots (...) options menu -> Change the Frame Display Mode to individual. Hope this helps.
    Or rename the files.

    Having been involved in software testing 35 years ago one thing is for sure the best testers are the ones who know what the software is supposed to do and also that there are so many possible scenarios involved that its impossible to test them all, the key is having the developer smart enough to understand the cause and affect a cure . I’ve seen the great companies, RTI in Auckland you know who I’m talking about, and the crap name withheld in Wellington to really understand the difference . If D/Resolve was smart and I’m assuming they are given the massive resources of their competitors that they will have the smarts to listen and respond to genuine problems identified by skilled end users. Love your work man :)

    You can change the speed for multiple clips on the timeline. After adjusting one clip, copy the attributes, and select the rest of the clips and paste attributes. The retime settings are at the bottom of the pop up window, and you can set it to ripple the sequence.
    For pasting multiple transitions, there's two ways to go about this. One is to set your default transition, then select the clips and add to selected edit points and clips. The other way, if you don't wan to set the default transition, is to first add the transition you want to a clip. Next, select that transition and copy it. Then, select the Trim Edit Mode (T if you're on the default shortcuts), and select the clips you want to have the transitions by clicking and dragging. In the Trim Edit mode, it'll select the in and out points of the clips you select. Then paste, and the transition will be added to all the selected points.
    If you want further control of your transform, you can add another transform tool. It's found in the Effects panel, under Open FX, Resolve FX Transform. It's a bit silly to add another transform tool to continue your position, but it's a workaround!

    If you highlight all your slowmo clips in the media pool before you drag them to the timeline then right click and select Clip attributes you can change all the clips speed in one shot.

    • @paulnordin5219
      @paulnordin5219 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That changes the clips ubiquitously, which is generally not great. A better "Timeline" specific method is to change the first clip to the speed you want (40% in this example), copy the clip (CTRL-C), then select all the other clips you want to change the speed of, and "Paste Attributes". Check the retime box, and all the clips's speeds are changed in one go.

    Also, you can speed up multiple clips, by first select them and make them a compound clip, then apply the desired speed !
    For your problem with keyframing, i dont have this one on my davinci 18 beta 2.
    If you want to move multiple clips Up or Down, just select them and press ALT + UP or DOWN
    If you want to import multiple images NOT as one, just rename them , not in an alphanumerical order !

    I have to say. I tried working with Resolve three different times over the last few years and I found it incredibly difficult to use. However in 2021 and 2022 I got back into it and have have been blown away by it. I come from Adobe and FCP (Using professionally for years) and now I have a new sense of enjoyment from editing because of Resolve. A big shout out to TH-cam mentors like Chadwick from Creative Video Tips, Darren Mostyn, Waqas Qazi, Casey Faris, Patrick Stirling, Billy Rybka and Learn Color Grading who make it fun to get into the software and see how powerful it really is. I have realized after rendering that clips were missing from my timeline and realized some of the issues you mentioned here as well. I am also getting an issue now where most of my video files don't show audio waveform in the timeline and I do a lot of my editing based on that, so I went back to Premiere (crash city) for now since I don't feel like constantly re-encoding my videos before editing amongst the other issues I began having with Resolve. I thought it was just a codec issue but can't seem to find the info out on exactly why this isn't "resolved" by now... With all that said, I do really love resolve and I will probably go back to using it once these issues are addressed.

      Fun fact, if you want to know whether Resolve is still processing your audio (apparently it playing isn't enough), opening Task Manager will show you Resolve just SLAMMING on that disk. For me, sometimes all I need to do is have the project open and wait a couple of minutes. If that doesn't work, the alternative would be to split your clip into bits and then trick Resolve into processing it by turning them into compound clips (you can select sole audio).

    I am not 100% sure, but lowering objects within the frame has something to do with anchoring point of the object. I guess it cannot be anchored OUTSIDE the frame. If it is anchored in the middle you can hide up to half its height. But maybe you can set anchor point in the uper corner of the object.

  • @tedstriker5991
    @tedstriker5991 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    For audio being a frame off from video, may be related to something I encountered. Lets say you have 20 clips next to each other and you want to render each one in Deliver separately. I found that if you magnetic selector to beginning of the video clip and hit "I" (input), it's fine. Magnetic select the end of the clip (between two video clips), it defaults to going to one frame after the end of the clip you want to highlight. So if you then pressed "O" (output), the last frame would be the first frame of the next clip. You have to left arrow once and then hit "O". On a deep internet dive many were saying that this is always the normal operation for editing programs. This behavior is the same on Edit and Deliver tabs. BUT, the audio editing in Fairlight never defaults to that (I think). It will not select one frame into the next audio track.
    From a forum: "There are two types of out points. Inclusive: This out point is what is being used in pretty much every NLE. With an inclusive out you mark your out point to the frame you want to include in the selection. So if you go to the next edit point and set an out you're getting a single frame of the next clip. Exclusive: This out point is marked at the cut. This kind of out point is pretty rare but it is available as a setting in some programs like Autodesk Smoke/Flame, Quantel iQ, DVS Clipster and such."
    As far as I know, DR doesn't yet offer an option to select Exclusive out points. I know there are some auto audio align features, but I've never tried them.

  • @earthpond8043
    @earthpond8043 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The multi image can be brought in separately through the media page. There is a setting you have to check in the drop down menu on the viewer, forget what it’s called, but it will bring in the images as single individual clips rather than all in one. They do this because you can actually have video that’s made with image files. Like a tiff sequence for instance.

    Coming from Avid MC my main problem on the edit page is not being able to toggle between timeline and source clip. Wondering why nobody addresses this basic issue. On Avid I can toggle to the source clip, solo monitor an audio channel, set in and out points and route the selected channel to the timeline. In DR I have to delete audio channels in the clip attributes before editing or bring all audio to the timeline and delete then unwanted audio. Or I have to create timelines for my source clips as a workaround with the restriction of copying files to the timeline instead of editing. Being able to toggle to the source clip and routing audio would make editing in DR so much easier. That’s my main issue with DR.

    the direct drag & drop to the media pool kinda sucks. They claimed it was improved some months ago but it still has dumb issues. For example if you happen to shoot cDNG for whatever reason then what drag & drop does is that it imports every single frame as a still.
    Hence, what I'm doing is that I drag & drop my media folder on the upper file browser in the Media page and then drag & drop the media within DaVinci.

    I would also highlight the resource hog DaVinci is (at least compared with Pr or AE) and what a nightmare it is to work with keyframes. As with the example you gave about linking, I find Resolve is extremely inconsistent in some aspects and that translates into lack of control, which is the main reason we use a professional NLE, we want to have control.

    Slowing down multiple clips is way easier before you put them on the timeline. Just select them in the project manager or whatever that's called, right click, find clip attributes and change from 60 fps to whatever your timeline is (I'm guessing 24 fps). There's also a keyboard shortcut for adding your default transitions on both ends of all selected clips but I don't remember what it was. It can be found in the keyboard customization settings

    I've had most of the same problems as you, so it's not you. The disappearing dragged clips thing is very annoying. Inability to adjust multiple clips simultaneously, or paste attributes into more than one clip at a time, also annoying.
    The worst is that Resolve 17 Studio just freezes periodically for no apparent reason. I have to "end task" and reopen the app at least a couple of times if I work for over an hour straight. I have to save my project after almost every action or two to ensure I don't lose work. I have 80B of RAM and a high-end Radeon GPU so that's not the problem.

    These look like problems with the Windows version of Resolve. Thankfully, I work on a Mac and don't experience these "problems". Your issue with moving clips around a timeline seems to be workable if you expand the timeline view vertically - making the viewport smaller - which would give you more room to place clips above your existing clips. The rest of your issues - not flaws - seem to be your insistence on going against Resolve's workflow. Every program has their own workflow.

    • @CharlieVN
      @CharlieVN 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      davinci has some real issues, mac or pc that are unrelated to workflow. it's so good that users will make due and deal with the workaround. the transform thing is a bit subjective, but certainly not intuitive, not going deep into that more complex subject.

    • @AllThingsFilm1
      @AllThingsFilm1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CharlieVN Real issues? Like what? If you’re going to make claims, give examples. I’ve been using Resolve since v14.2. I understand it’s workflow. The only issues I have involve using tools I don’t use that often. So, I study the tool and figure out how to use it. Like any other program. Again, give examples of the “real issues”. Don’t just say it.

    At five minutes where two stills were combining into a clip. That’s because it’s treating them as animation frames. It’s actually a feature because if you render individual frames out of an animation program they typically come in sequential order so da Vinci will automatically convert them into a clip. Thankfully there’s a way to shut it off. I’m away from my computer right now so I couldn’t tell you exactly what that is but Google it it’s not difficult to find.

    Thanks for pointing rhese things out. Maybe they will listen to you.
    Although in generel its a powerful program it seems to have those weird "Child Illnesses".
    E.g. I use Strg and alt as scroll and narrowing the timeline modifiers in Studio One. And I am so used to it. Davinci has them too but flipped... why cant i f**king change these modifier.
    Please tell me if there is an option to switch them and I was just too dumb to find it.
    Furthermore... I usually use 2 Screens and I woukd even use 3... if davinci would has a freely floating windows configuration possibility.
    I usually drag in my clips and position them on the timeline and then??? Why can I not hide that stupid folder box... and use my screenspace for the timeline and monitor window and effects only! The way I want it! Not like davinci wants it. Its so stupid!
    PLEASE davinci... Look how Presonus STUDIO ONE is constructed... everything drag and drop and configurable windows! That how it is done.
    While I am at it. Please give me a high contrast white with black outlines color theme... and ideally make it freely configurable. When I am not locked in a cellar with almost no light except the monitor... its so hard to see things clearly. Could be changed so easily! Make it configurable.
    Sometimes it really feels like they have never cut a video and just construct the program. And also... until i found out they use ripple delete on "del" button and delete on backspace button!!! OMG. It was soooo annoying. Why even change a habit like delete that we are all used to for the last 20 years and is very clear and straightforward "namely just delete" to a weird ripple delete that could in fact be useful, but is not user intuitive.
    I sooo much hope they see your video and my comment and change these things... I cant believe I am the only one with these problems.
    Because it IS in fact a powerful, amazing program... if there werent these child illnesses...
    Thanks,
    Peter

    Editing... I started as an audio engineer, leaned all I could hands on, & reading manuals. Have you ever tried to read a ROLAND manual? Hell on earth. Took me years to learn all the finesse'. Now with visual editing, I can do it, but I hate it, so I've found an editor, now editing is not such a problem for me. :) ADD: not to mention editing in 4k... the cost of a computer to do that editing with the needed immense computing power. Truly get an editor, they're cheap due our big old world, guaranteed to know more about editing than you do, & they can knock it out quick to order. When you add up the expense of keeping up with advancements; letting someone else go to that expense is worth utilizing. & then there's the expense of time... look at how much time you're wasting, is that time worth money to you? How much?
