I did price out everything and I was reassured that I was getting a great deal by several others. This was supposed to be a bumper to bumper build. I GOT RIPPED OFF!! AS MANY OTHERS. Everyone's nightmare :( out of curiosity why not just get a new truck or find one with the work already done? My first vehicle was a Taco, I could see doing it for sentimental reasons.

That Taco story is almost the same as what happened to me. In my case, I'm disabled and I spent the last of my savings trying to build my jeep to have some camping/overlanding adventures before I'm no longer able. That was two years and $30k ago and I still can't overland my jeep because the suspension and electrical is crap. The worst part is, prior to becoming disabled I could have done the work myself. Now I'm driving a half finished overland rig that can't overland and even if I wanted to try to fix it myself I no longer have anywhere to do it. Kudos to you guys for helping that Taco owner out!

That's a really useful idea! I used to lift equipment up to the second level at work that never would have gone up a stairway. It really simplified the job.
This may be a dumb question but I have to ask did you have the thickness of the concrete checked for the lifts to make sure its thick enough to hold vehicles?
I was wondering about this too. At work, we had a hoist engineered for us, relying on print specs that stated we had a 6-inch reinforced concrete floor. Installation revealed that it was only about 4-1/2 to 5 in thick. We could have poured a large footing or installed a heavy steel plate to spread the load, chose instead to derate the hoist.
Nothing beyond regular 4" is actually needed. It's a common misconception. Most concrete is 5000 psi, or pounds per square inch. So the average car even at 5000lbs spread over the large bases of the lift is NO Problem

Just a suggestion, if I'm not too late, build a removable handrail where the old staircase was so you can use the forklift to place box pallets or crates upstairs.
If you get a change to go to the Yellowstone, and Teton national parks area, go on the road to Cave Falls, it is nice. And go on the Grassy Lake road, if it is open. There are nice views on that road, as well as the forest road 266, pinochle peak, near Felt Idaho on Hwy 32.
Weld on a steel safety hoop or two in case the drive shaft does snap. Just leave enough space for full articulation that way no pole vaulting or having it come up thru the floor...

You should keep that gap on the loft in the garage so you can fork things up there if need be. What if you put a catch strap around the driveshaft to catch it in the event it fails?
New Jeep's Name! I just picked up a new (to me) awesome 97 Wrangler that is in pristine condition and Flame Red (PF4) with a Black Top. Getting a Trektop NX once it is available, currently on backorder through Quadratec. I saw the Stepchild in this vlog and the name just came to me. My little firecracker Jeep is now called JUNIOR.

Driveshaft Loop is what you need. Had them on DRAG cars . Shop is looking good.

Run a limiting strap under drive shaft to keep from dropping all the way into the dirt if a failure happens.

Also too. Pretty sure you usually want to be at least 6 inches away from an expansion joint when mounting the lifts. Plus pad thickness requirements

We’re definitely gonna make a gate, but probably on the other side, so the lift isn’t in the way of the forklift

Chris should fabricate a Boom for the fork truck (Google it). They are very handy in shops.
If you use 3/8 NF thread 12 point nuts on your driveshaft ubolts, you can then use a 7/16th ratcheting wrench to tighten them.
You should keep that gap on the loft in the garage so you can fork things up there if need be. What if you put a catch strap around the driveshaft to catch it in the event it fails?

Seal the concrete, inside and out, and do it now. The oil and tire marks will wash right away. But they won’t if you don’t!
