I agree, excess heat will cause your curls to loosen. but sometimes (not every time) curl patterns can change even if you’ve never used heat on your hair. it can be caused by stress, the environment/climate you live in, or puberty (obviously not the problem for these girls). but yeah I agree with you.

Who’s going to tell her the fact that she is flat ironing herchild’s hair every 3 weeks, which is causing her curls to be loosen. When I was growing up, there was no one to teach me how to take care of my natural hair, so there is no excuse for these new moms.

    • @onedollarbleach6891
      @onedollarbleach6891 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@kaylag3099 Well not the follicle my bad, but the strand itself will get damaged. Everything is a chemical so heat could technically be considered as such. Either ways It damages the hair bc heat is drying so if ur doing it as often as the mom is to the little girl ur literally drying out ur hair and breaking the hydrogen bonds within the strand. The strand thinning is a direct cause of susceptibility to breakage and split ends because the shaft is now weaker

If her curl pattern has changed ever since getting her hair flat ironed every few weeks... It's probably heat damage. Although the hairstyle is beautiful, you might want to try to incorporate heatless styles sometimes to preserve the integrity of their hair. It might not be bone straight but still beautiful! ☺️

    • @whoohw1394

I agree! My hair is a different curl pattern and I think it’s really hard to manage. Many times I consider a relaxer or cutting it, but when I finish and my curls are poppin and locking I can’t help but fall in love haha! My mom did her best and would take me starting in like 6-7th grade to get my hair flat ironed. I loved my hair but it took me at a couple years to get my curls back in a stable place! I would definitely be careful with the heat but they have beautiful hair! I would love to see their curls in action.

However, I think we as African Americans should recognize that it’s okay if we want to experiment with different hairstyles and do what works for us as an individual. I'm biracial & when I was their age my mom didn't know what to do to my hair. They would flat iron & relax my hair so it was easier to manage/comb. In middle school & high school all I wanted was straight hair because in a predominantly white area, all the kids had straight hair. At one point I was tired of my mom flat ironing my hair every morning before school. In middle school I told her I'd try to comb my hair myself. I'd just put it in ponytails & gel it down. Eventually my my natural hair grew out & I loved it, but my family would tell me I can't wear my hair like that... I had loved my natural hair so much, that I wore it to school to show off to my friends how pretty my curls were & they all asked me what happened to my hair & why isn't it straight anymore. Eventually I got pressured into relaxing it...Once I left HS I let my hair grow out & clipped off the relaxed ends. I must say that was the best decision I ever made. I love my hair & growing up, I wish I had people that told me nothing was wrong with my hair, and I should appreciate & embrace my natural hair, because I didn't need straight hair to be "beautiful" or be acceptable...sorry for the rant, but yeah, let your daughters (who are gorgeous btw) know that nothing is wrong with their natural hair & flat ironing their hair every three weeks can damage their hair, which is evident from the loosening of the curl patterns

Just a suggestion but to prevent possible heat damage maybe get the stylist to stretch your daughters hair via a roller set? You get a similar result but your using indirect heat from the dryer rather than direct heat from the hair straightener. If you wrap the hair well at night it should last just as long as the other method.
When my hair gets a bit longer that’s what I’ll be planning to do, as my hair being stretched out works out better for my hair and my overall lifestyle.

Please make sure she is using a heat protector on her hair, even if you have to bring your own. If her hair pattern is getting looser it is because her hair is occurring heat damage. She should be able to retain her curl pattern without causing damage to the hair. Heat damage doesnt only cause the hair to be looser, it can cause even more damaging results in the long run.

Speaking from a woman who has curly hair and straightened my hair all the time. My curls became loose and then parts of my hair became straight because it was heat damaged.
Looking at baby girls hair it is beautiful and healthy and looks very manageable. You may want to learn from the stylist how to care for it or get protective styles that last 3 weeks instead of the straightening.
Signed, a curly girl who wishes she never damaged her curls. (I had to do the big chop a few years ago and start over)

    Precious So Pretty!!!
Yes her curl pattern is loosening up from heat & getting hair straightened with the irons.
    &
If you are taking them to get straightening done (which is pretty) make sure to get some great product for their curly hair (when wearing hair natural). Carols daughter (called milk) will bring out the pretty curls in her hair.

U should embrace her curl pattern rather than give it heat damage to make it more manageable for you. Shes too little to be taken to a hair school salon letting people who are learning do her hair rather a professional who knows how to deal and manage her hair texture

Please make sure they don’t damage her hair to make it manageable because my hair is like 3c and my mom is Hispanic with 2c/3a curls and she got my hair straightened a lot as a child and Dominicans snuck a texturizer into my hair! My mom didn’t really do much too it because it was “unmanageable” now as an teenager im trying to get my pretty curl pattern back so I have to do big chops to remove the damage! My hair thinned out and everything but the curls are coming back slowly but surely! I want a curly fro which I’m getting their but it’s hard because my hair is still trying to thicken up

I did the big chop in 2006 and in 2010 I begin flat ironing it regularly. It was so long (past my bra strap) and healthy. After 3 months I realized I had applied too much heat to my natural hair and my curl pattern never reverted back. I had all these random straight pieces mixed with wavy curls and tight spirals. It was a disaster. I finally bit the bullet and cut off all the damaged hair over time. I finally took the time to learn how to care for my hair and now it’s near my belly button when it’s flat ironed only twice a year 😊 Good luck to your girls on their natural hair journey.

Instead of blow drying have them do a roller set. Ince that's done, no straightening is needed before curling. They can reinforce the curls with the curling iron or flat irons on a low setting. Pin the curls up and let her sit under the hood dryer for a "cold shot". The cold shot will lock in the curls to make them last longer.

If your heat training you can actually apply heat every two weeks. There's nothing wrong with it if you know what your doing . It's better than getting a relaxer.

Between washings if you can try finger curling her hair to see if you can bring some of those curls back and ask her to brush her hair out with the conditioner in it and rinse her conditioner out with cool water ! This is what saved my curls . And I’m also a cosmetology graduate❤️

It’s either the hot comb or a perm, mom needs something that is manageable. Some women just don’t want to deal with textured hair. Yes, with the proper routine it’s easy, but you have to realize that she has two girls and herself to care for. I can tell you, I would personally just do braids with added hair towards the ends instead of heat, however, mom found something that works for her and her household. The most important thing is that her children are well taken cared of.

When my daughter was little. I would wash her hair every week and do a pretty style in cornrolls. Her hair was well down her back. She cried for a perm in junior high. She started adding color after that. Hair now stays just below shoulder length. Too much heat and chemicals. When I was a girl, we only got our hair pressed for special occasions, easter, christmas, etc. Your daughters have a head full of beautiful hair. I would protect it at all costs. That's my two cents. ❤💚❤

Every 3 weeks will damage her natural curl pattern. Unless that is what you want to do, you will have to cut back the flatiron. She can do roller sets too and maybe even tap crinkled roots

Looking at it it I can Definitely see it is heat damage. It may be more manageable now but it will come a time where the curl will be so inconsistent and won't look right unless straightened.

I hope they not putting chemicals in the shampoo. Curl patterns should not go loose and all the heat isn't good. You will notice a difference in her new growth hair texture once you stop taking her.
