Absolutely immaculate! Love how he didn't complain about any of the records before he listened to em.. ANYTHING could have some flippable ish! He even made the point of saying "I'm not gonna call it whack, just wasn't for me" ..what a dude!
This dude wasn't bullshittin, no daw, no plug ins or drumkits, just an mp a turntable and a few records and got to business. Literally made something dope from nothing.
First off it seems to me that he's in the minority of producers that actually randomly walk through the store blindfolded instead of standing in front of a particular genre and THEN putting on the blindfold. Then he got in there and went to work like he had an hour block of studio time. Didn't appear to use pre-loaded samples, everything seemed to come from the selected vinyl. On top of that, he opted out of the easy route by using a simple sound from the funk album as opposed to using it as a foundation for either track. Love his creative process. This is the type of work that I can really appreciate. Not to talk down on other artists' methods of production, but this minimalist approach is still dope to me. No computer, just an MPC, amp, monitors, vinyl, and turntable. #Respect bro.
Hey this guy didn't just walk over to the Soul and Jazz section of the store, then blind fold himself, pluck a record and act like it's "random". This guy went through store and was vulnerable to any genre. OLD SKOOL attitude, up for the challenge but he didn't rig himself to look good. Absolute props to this guy, MPC for life, YYYEAAAAAHHHHHHH BBBBBOOOOIIII!!!!!!!!!!
yeah, walking over to or close to the soul and jazz sections before the blindfold have forever been the loophole thats been exploited/used time and time again. yeah they didn't know what record they were gonna get in terms of the album or artist itself, but they knew which genre those records belonged to because soul and jazz in general are safe to sample for hip hop beatmakers/producers. they aren't up for stepping outside of that and ending up with shit like, i don't know, the residents or the stooges or mercyful fate or ryuichi sakamoto scores. just anything truly random and challenge themselves to sample from records outside of jazz/soul.
But does it really matter if they choose a genre they feel comfortable with? Random is random no matter the genre. Air quoting as if choosing without looking in a preferred genre, is not random. Some would say going to soundtracks /scores is cheating. Some would say other genres. Whatever they want to pull from man.
One of the best RRs I've seen. This guy does it right with the right attitude. Beats from scratch. Sees the gold where others may have thought it "whack." Masterful.
There's so may ways to approach making beats, but in my opinion this is the purest form done correctly! The second beat was hitting the hardest for me - dope!
So blessed to find a Rhythm Roulette with NO CUSSING! I can show this video to my elementary school students! Bless this gentleman and thanks for this series!!!
That's how it's done. The first beat already was better than 90% of what i usually see on these kind of videos.2nd beat shows you this man has great sense for interlocking rhythm and hooks.Great stuff.
Stik Figa & Chuuwee turned the second beat into a track called "Child's Play" soundcloud.com/mellomusicgroup/stik-figa-childs-play-feat-chuuwee-prod-gensu-dean
I've watched maybe 20 of these Rhythym Roulettes, maybe more, and I've been waiting for someone to SMELLLL the vinyls. I always smell the vinyls, that's how you can tell what era they are from!!!!! There is magic in that smell!
sampling and beat making has always fascinated md, taking something from a handful of records and making something completely new is just so amazing to witness. I've always secretly wanted to try and get into it but I wouldn't even know where to start haha.
Anthony Geonetta watch most of these as commented..if you have music ability or played a instrument then already got good start..remember samples from recorded artists is set in the traditional structure in a sense made in musical notation and melody..so you can be basic and just loop the sample or break it down and rebuild..just practice
Let me tell.yall something! This is what I'm talking about! Real hip hop! He got that get back! Thank you so much Rhythm roulette / Mass Appeal you guys are off the chain! Thank you Gensu Dean!!! I really needed that pick up right there!
Plug & play, that's what it is!! The 3000 & a turntable, Low Budget style!! That's what created the boom bap we continue to push & make live on!! Nice work Gensu Dean!!
Jess Bailey I know that. It's not what I meant when I said it. I use that term referring to Kev Brown & his crew. They were always using MINIMAL equipment to get the job of making tracks done. Hence Gensu Dean just using the 3000 & a turntable, not that it's a low budget machine. I'm very well aware of the machines used in the boom bap golden era. I'm a 70's baby & came up immersed in hip hop. So with that said, I hope YOU understand what I truly meant!✌️
OMG!! This dude is a real Producer with some real talent and skills!! Wow!!!!!!!!!! and the track he produced is straight fire!! Just Thinking out loud!!!
retropickups2000 I'm guessing you meant to ask me " isn't it the same thing?" .. so my answer is yes. it is the same thing but it's borrrriinnggggg as hell
Absolutely immaculate! Love how he didn't complain about any of the records before he listened to em.. ANYTHING could have some flippable ish! He even made the point of saying "I'm not gonna call it whack, just wasn't for me" ..what a dude!

Downn Syndrome the way it should be. On the 3000, no less.
This is the minimal raw shit for sure.
pretty much how we were taught
Right!
TRUTH!

You know a OG is at work when he first putting his own drum set together.

Facts but let’s be honest 9th wonders was still fire

OK Mass Appeal, this one instantly goes down as one of my favs!!! Straight old school, LOVED IT!!!
One of the best RRs I've seen. This guy does it right with the right attitude. Beats from scratch. Sees the gold where others may have thought it "whack." Masterful.

you already know what school he represents by his style of cooking alone. Respect
I always get amazed when I see people use an MPC the way he does. He got the technique down to a tee.
His energy was awesome. He must live a blessed life
So blessed to find a Rhythm Roulette with NO CUSSING! I can show this video to my elementary school students! Bless this gentleman and thanks for this series!!!
Perfect motivation for a snow day in NYC
That's how it's done, much respect. Enjoyed watching him work.
It's always cool seeing folks chop on the old mpc's.
Epitome of what rhythm roulette should be. A sampler and some records. Fire track.

Big Fan of Gensu and to see him get it in was amazing and inspiring.
I love how he says his name, "I'm the Grand Incredible Gensu Dean."
instantly liked. real producers, this what y'all should be showing all the time
That's how it's done. The first beat already was better than 90% of what i usually see on these kind of videos.2nd beat shows you this man has great sense for interlocking rhythm and hooks.Great stuff.
Another dope rhythm roulette, *Thank you Mass Appeal!*
Stik Figa & Chuuwee turned the second beat into a track called "Child's Play"
soundcloud.com/mellomusicgroup/stik-figa-childs-play-feat-chuuwee-prod-gensu-dean
Mello Music Group is killing it. L'Orange, Lando Chill, Mr Lif, Quelle Chris

Apollo's super sick too, great roster
its not the prettiest episode but its one of the BEST. This dude is the truth. WOW amazing work!
Q-Tip on Rhythm Roulette . Make it happen
I've watched maybe 20 of these Rhythym Roulettes, maybe more, and I've been waiting for someone to SMELLLL the vinyls. I always smell the vinyls, that's how you can tell what era they are from!!!!! There is magic in that smell!

Anthony Geonetta with a random record. You can make fire out of anything, trust me on that. If you've got soul in you, you can do this.
Anthony Geonetta a good start is these videos lol look at some of the techniques of sampling and what people make out of the simplest sounds
Anthony Geonetta watch most of these as commented..if you have music ability or played a instrument then already got good start..remember samples from recorded artists
is set in the traditional structure in a sense made in musical notation and melody..so you can be basic and just loop the sample or break it down and rebuild..just practice
you got to love the producer that goes anywhere in the store versus straight to soul/funk
salute
This is what it is. One of the best ones for sure.
Going through Gensu's discography for the next 7 seasons of my life
Let me tell.yall something!
Sinosure mpc3000 is not low budget lmao

retropickups2000 I'm guessing you meant to ask me " isn't it the same thing?" .. so my answer is yes. it is the same thing but it's borrrriinnggggg as hell
retropickups2000 It's actually better watching a producer just using his machine and turntable then watching someone just click the damn mouse.
It's not the tools you use it's what you build
all samples & drums from the records = real rhythm roulette
Yo Gensu killed it.Keep the culture alive!
OMG that second beat tho!!!
This is one of my favorites that first beat came together real fast with just a turntable and MPC.
Now this is beat making , so Simple and fresh. Organic to the Core ! Love it!!! :)
