    nice job but that framing is way overkill. that thing will weigh a ton and you'll need multiple people to move it. Plus all the extra framing will limit the insulation value, you're already putting time in to insulate, might as well get the most out of it you can. I built one with 2x2's and insulated it with garage door insulation panels since that's all my home depot had, it's a rigid foam, 3/4 inch thick so i doubled it up to fill in the 1.5" gap from the 2.2 framing. worked quite well, will be adding a small heater and checking the temperatures this winter.

    Very nice sir, I am making a doghouse right now and I am definitely going to put hinges on the roof. That is a very good idea. Thank you for the video, God bless.

    Nice build. Would this insulation keep it warmer inside or some 2-3-inch-thick insulation board that has Mylar on one side? I'd put some foam or rubber to seal the top when it's down so the rising heat doesn't go up and out the roof edge. I buy brand new empty 1 gallon paint cans and mount a light bulb socket and drill several holes on the outside of the can and then install and regular old style 75 watt to 100 watt light bulb then put the lid on and it helps a bunch keeping my cats warm when they want to be outside in their insulated cat condos mad out of 2 inch foam board insulation with the Mylar pointing towards them on the inside so the heat bounces back at them. Condos are 2ft x 3ft and with 2 light bulb heaters they stay right at 75 degrees or tad more, no matter how cold it is, so they love it. That is with just a small single opening cut in it so they can get inside.

    Although I commend you on the build quality. I made this mistake before and that thing will be so damn heavy. Plus, insulation isn’t there where the studs are. Studs have like a 2-3r value. Would be best to limit studs and material (use 1x3s) and use ridged insulation with limited studs. Seal the ridgid insulation against the 1x3s and reinforce any areas you would potentially make a door or add a heater whatever. Currently working on my 4th dog house and going minimal style. No tar paper, just siding right over insulation. Will still be water tight and less on cost and labor.

      @@beboystyle620 I finished it almost now. I used 1x3s it was total about 12 of them. Then I used fortiflash I got for free on the roof then used shingles I got for free. I didn’t use siding just 1/4” plywood primed and painted with exterior paint. Corners are sealed with just plywood cut into 1” strips and used like any other wood corner on a house I used liquid nails on every joint and also joined everything with my Milwaukee finish nailer. Goes up to 3” finish nails. The dog house is 3’x5’ 2’3” on one end and 3’ at the taller even. It’s just a simple sloped roof. Doors on the taller end on the narrow side

    On second thought, after watching another video I would go minimal on framing. Yeah OSB sheets but flat nail 2X4 studs only at corners not like building a house. But the rest you did pretty good. Insulation and simple sloped roof. I’ve some leftover black felt leftover from my roof work. And studs. Maybe less than $100. I’ve worked with guys that built tool sheds simple easy cheap that took only hours.

    Does anyone know what that black paper material was? And is Fiberglas installation the only installation you can use on a dog house? Plan on building my dogs a house for the winter (atm) but really for all year around and don’t know if installation will make it to hot for them in the summer

    • @frankmontez6853

      It was black roofing felt they used it as water vapor barrier and not much else. It doesn’t insulate very well. Maybe wind barrier..

      Can use foam insulation it give a greater R value than fiberglass the kind he put on roof

  • @frankmontez6853
    @frankmontez6853 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah just looked at the 4 ft X 8 ft OSB sheets to use and they’re from about $12-14 each depending on thickness. And insulation be more lil more expensive and myself I’ve some leftover 2X 4 studs and black felt paper he used. So for me I could do it maybe cost under $100 for those 2 or 3 OSB sheets and insulation I think. Don’t need that much like a huge roll of it. But dang it’s cheaper that putting all my stuff somewhere away from my chew everything in sight pit bull.

I used to work construction and I’d pick up all kinds of leftover materials. Not anymore though. And even if they let me I don’t have a truck. Save money if I could
