Come and teach that lesson in Newark NJ and in 5 min u'll find urself wrapped around in that plastic rope you have. They will chew you up! In theory these lessons are great for children who are selected by the teacher individually, otherwise it remains a utopia. You can't apply these in every class. Schools should not lie to the future music teachers and teach them unrealistic teaching repertoire because it simply will make the teacher even more disappointed, confused, vulnerable and discouraged. Schools should prepare the future music teacher with a set of strong managerial skills and a very generic but very applicable teaching repertoire that would enable the teacher to withstand most of the situations. Having taught for many years, I now appreciate the resources my school gave me; however, schools should do more and kind of avoid teaching unrealistic pedagogy. No school will buy you 30 xylophones, 30 guiros and drums. You have to prioritize the kind of teaching material that could easily be achievable on the spot such as body percussion, improvisational tools etc. Don't rely on luxury
Hello Margin - I am sorry that you have had such difficulty that has you so jaded. This lesson has been successfully presented around the world in many different classrooms. We were lucky enough to be given the use of the concert hall at the Sydney Conservatorium to make the video of the lesson. This is a lesson using the Orff Method and Orff instruments - We do not try an represent this as a general music lesson in an impoverished school. That having been said, the lessons in We're Orff have accompanying audio and audio backing tracks (you can hear a backing track in the video) and could also be taught using less expensive Orff classroom instruments with the support of the provided audio. It just takes a little imagination. And yes, we have assumed that the teacher who might use the resource has achieved a level of confidence and engagement appropriate to being able to deliver the lesson. We are not trying to pass this off as a lesson for beginning teachers. We do provide excellent resources for beginning teachers with Music Room www.bushfirepress.com/musicroom/

Where are these music rooms? Where are these kids? Great stuff...but resembles the real world for most of us not at all....just sayin' .... pretty unrealistic...
Cameron Weckerley Hello Cameron. Where is our real world? Tamara was teaching at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the time we filmed this. And this is the Verbrugghen Hall. Wasn't it great to be able to film this piece for our We're Orff series with such space and acoustic! www.bushfirepress.com/orff We would not suggest that you seek out a concert hall to present your lessons - but hey - if you get the chance - might you?
Es dificil mantener a los niños entretenidos todo el tiempo a cada segundo, si eres maestra te daras cuenta de ello, su atencion siempre varia en cada actividad. 😉
