I watched (and done) a lot of popcorn ceilings and drywall videos, but this is the first garden hose in the house I've ever seen. That's bold! I usually use water (sometimes hot) in a garden sprayer.

My little brothers ran the garden hose in the house and soaked my grandpa when he was sitting in his lazy boy listening to his radio

It's so cool to see how far you guys have come! I watch all of your Dream Garage videos now and I searched for how to get rid of textured ceilings and this video came up!

Wow, I have seen so many "how to remove popcorn ceiling" videos over the years because of the job I do, this is the most realistic (using water to removed painted ceiling), efficient (taping the putty knife to the ole with clamps) and effective (using garden hose instead of garden water sprayer or airless paint sprayer) video I have ever seen!
Great job (better than 95% of the videos I have seen on TH-cam!!!)...

I scraped most of a three bedroom house's ceiling of its popcorn today, wetting it using a little hand spray bottle, maybe ten ounces.
This guy: "turn the hose on, Martha! Ah, that mist setting on the nozzle isn't doing it for me, switching it to flat setting." (hoses down the whole room in fifteen seconds) "That's pretty good."
    Lessons learned.

Only time I ever textured, I just thinned the drywall mud and applied with a textured paint roller. Much easier and a lot less mess.

Where I am up north we _never_ texture. It's just not anything that people ever want. They will often pay to remove texture from decades ago like this. Sure makes things harder from what I can tell it hides a lot of stuff that we don't get the luxury of hiding.

Huh, the 'ol garden hose on the ceiling trick. Love your channel and am a huge fan, but I just might be able to offer a tip to you and your viewers.. I've done a ton of popcorn ceiling removal. My trick is to get a five-gallon bucket of hot water, slip a five-gallon screen on there, use a really thick roller nap (1 1/2) is my favorite, and simply dip the roller into the hot water as you would if it was filled with paint instead of water, let it soak the nap well, screen off a little excess, then simply paint the ceiling with the hot water. I like this method better than the garden hose method only because it's easier and way less messy. Then I follow up with your method of scraping it off the same way you do. It works super well, it goes very fast and it just works better for me. 😉

Tackless tack strips reminds me of clipless pedals on bicycles that you actually clip into! Clipless refers to the absence of big old toeclips aka rattraps on the pedals.

Cordless drill can handle mixing mud just so ya know. I literally used a milwaukee m12 hammer drill the other day to do it, same stuff too the premixed box, dumped into a 5gal and thinned a tad with water.

My only criticism so far is that I'd like to see longer views, slower views of the final product. You pan so fast for so few seconds we couldn't see the texture at all. On the shower/tub installs and the fireplace stone too... give us a nice slow view and/or post in some photographs/still shots. Thanks.

You can always use a paint sprayer for your water application so you don’t have so much excess it’s a bit more regulated

Hi guys , I leave in Ottawa Canada . I read those comments yes it's the first time I see a garden hose to wet the ceiling Haha it's ok if you cover the whole room. I have a job and used the 3/4 paint roller with water and it works great NO mass on the walls or floor . So I highly recommended to try the paint roller guys and but don't push on the ceiling when you roll. good luck guys.

I did a whole coastal condo, last summer. Not fun. I used a garden sprayer. I saw another TH-camr that said he want do jobs with painted popcorn and would charge 8 to 10 times as much as unpainted, if he did. I concur. I am doing my house soon. Might TH-cam it. Good info, studs.

For wallpaper just use a bucket of water and a car wash sponge. Keep scrubbing and the paper will roll off and not damage anything.

@@lufia1624 yeah I know it sounds crazy but I was just about to do a whole kitchen and dinning room area and I bought alot of fancy chemicals and tools for the job but then an experienced handyman caught me before I started it and recommended this method So I did it. It was alot of wax on wax off Danielson from the karate kid but it worked without scraping and gouging the wall needing further repairs. I even washed of the old glue residue before I sealed.

I have never understood why American houses have textured walls and ceilings ?, in Australia we only had popcorn ceilings in very old apartments, otherwise all houses are perfectly smooth walls and ceilings

    • @StudPack
      @StudPack  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Purely economics. A flat smooth wall is the most difficult (costly) to achieve. Texture hides a lot of sins and popcorn doesn't even need paint. Thanks for the comments Zane and I'll make sure to put Jordan on the tools more:)

couldn't you attach a shop vac hose underneath the scrapper to prevent most of the texture from falling on the floor?

No asbestos hopefully! If it was built after mid 80s, you should be okay. When in doubt, test it.

Oh man, that looks like an awful job to spray texture! And it must be horribly heavy to do too!
Why does anyone want texture these days? They're so hard to clean! I hate the textured walls in my house. I'd never even consider it as an option.
