The way he compares the music with a person is truly unique
It's like music is life or something
it's so effective. this is one of the most simultaneously educational and hilarious things ive seen in a long time
Also oddly helpful and coherent... The man knows what he's doing fr
@@TheChopstixman it’s amazing
Glad to have reassurance to what I'm studying on

*When you wake up and listen to your mix you cooked up at 2am*
Lol!! Had many of those moments :D
Also me when i drank beer when producing instead of smoking weed haha
@@cosmo5179 broooooo ahahahah
Especially if you worked with a bad headset and didn't have time to work on effects and WQ. LOL
thanks dude you really made me laugh
To the people that say, “wow this would be great with some actual information”, take a step back and realize that he’s being ambiguous on purpose. It’s really all about creating flow and removing elements purposefully. Like any good artist, he uses metaphors so you can apply it to yourself, whoever you are.
this man gets it
Hasn't reception been universally positive? I haven't seen anyone say there was no information
I think his videos are quite genius, especially compared to many other tutorials out there. He doesn't just say "use something that sounds like this", he always abstracts and gives you a way to think about what you're adding. Derek's love for books needs to carry over from childhood to adulthood, because otherwise the transition is too sudden - the song has a completely different personality if you don't carry over parts in transition. This man's method of explaining things is really engaging, funny, and the metaphors get you to actually think about what you're doing rather than following commands from an internet man.
@@yousuckatproducing Step on my toes.
@@yousuckatproducing lmao true
Thanks for saving my music, and maybe my life too.
Reports of my untimely demise have been exaggerated.
Lots of love.
Derek
you're welcome Derek. You were always a good son to me.
...

"Oh, he really loves his books"
So proud of Derek

Well I'm sure glad I stayed up till 5am

Geeze, the transition between making Derek a human drummer boy, an iphone replaced boy, to a fully growing adult with hair, and self realizing himself in a good transition means he really is maturing in his adventures.
It makes sense that beats in South Africa, or maybe around different parts of the world will set the tone for the remainder of Derek's life. All his lonely time became his "me" time. Brilliant consistency as always. Your intro caught me off guard, it made me laugh pretty hard. It actually reminds me a bit of Eric Andre with his randomness.
My beats have been improving every new lesson that comes out. I'm gaining confidence as a producer, goodness! It helps, every time. Welp, time to go back to my basement! Thanks again.
thanks for watching Zhu
white noise is like a first experience of drinking vodka with your uncle Boris...
And then he starts the ww2 stories which his grandpa used to tell him
Wow he really fuckin loves those books
What I love about this channel is that, not only is it hilarious, but if you search "You suck at producing" followed by anything specific you want to learn there is a tutorial for it.
After binge watching the entire Ysap playlist to this point, (about halfway so far) it was really great to share this experience with you. I thoroughly enjoyed your feedback on the submissions and I learned even more. I'm sorry didn't watch the previous livestreams, after watching this, I'll probably rewind watch previous shows.
More importantly for me though, it was good to just see the more serious and more natural side of you. I've only been just mixing loops in a shitty phone app for a year and I'm convinced more than ever that the start of my journey into actual production, which is technically less than a month now, is on the right track.
Other than teaching myself a little bit of theory to just scrape by, I've learned more from you in the last 18 hours than I have from other people that I've also recently discovered here on TH-cam over the last three or four weeks.
I really look forward to sticking with this community once I decide on a DAW package, get a beat pad (I'm a Drummer) and a MIDI keyboard.
I can't wait to break free from my cell phone app and laptop in order to expand my hardware options and learn music on a much more serious production level.
If this message hits your eyes, thanks for taking the time to read.
I appreciate everything I've experienced so far.
HAHAHAHAHAHAH 12 Seconds into this and i'm already laughing like there is no tomorrow
Dude, never stop doing this videos, gracias capo, aprendo y me divierto
I love this series, as a teen learning how to use Ableton, it's super helpful!

Underbelly, this track is sick! I like how you changed it up for this video. Keep em coming man!
This was the first video I watched off your channel, and you had my laughing and learning
What a legend
Adults "…getting tattoos and piercings just to feel something" is a great line.
Brazilian here, the 1 year gap at south america killed me HAHAHAHAHAH it's so true, I was fortunate enough to make a reasonable amount of international friends this way, keep coming gringos!
The smile on my face as soon as I found this channel for the first time xD! I love his approach so much
This channel has helped me so much over the years.

Genius.
dude, those are brazilian funk samples hahaha thats so funny is my hometown music, love it!
You are the best teach ever.
Derek is a millennial not used to adult life coming at a reasonable time. He is used to having his adult life postponed indefinitely. ROFL
Naseem Max Mansoor Too relatable..
I am just discovering your child, erm channel and I'm here for the ride baby!
Awesome tips! Nice metaphor too!
Did you ever release this track? I'd love to hear a full version of it

Might be the best Underbelly intro of all time
this is golden
there's a nice indepth article online called The Advanced Guide to Tension and Energy in Electronic Music, its mostly geared towards EDM but many of the concepts are fairly universal, might be of interest to some here
Would love to meet this man one day
Best tuto of my life
Love the baile funk samples.
Also....coulda showed people how to high cut filter (not on all tracks) and bring back the frequencies slowly after Derek's trip to South America.
