Accidentally opened Ableton while having Cubase running, which it didn't like. After that no sound. Your tip @ 0:45 solved it for me, somehow my outputs were Not Connected after opening Live. Thanks :)
I've been experiencing intermittent no sound issues in Cubase. Unless I missed it, I believe you left out one helpful tip: Download the updated drivers for your audio interface. After I updated to Windows 11, I forgot to update drivers. Hope that helps others:)
I had Cubase on eval and although this is a comprehensive video, I still can't get any sound out. I can't help thinking that it shouldn't be this difficult getting a DAW to output sound to headphones, seems kind of fundamental to me. Think I'm going to have to bale on Cubase and try another, more user friendly DAW.
It’s definitely not the most straightforward DAW, but on the other hand there’s a ton of functionality. If you would want to share specifics on your issue I’d be happy to look into it.
I’m thinking that could be a file management thing. Creating a separate folder for every project so Cubase saves all track files in that folder might be a solution, if you’re not already doing that.
Hi cuttie, thank you so much for the tutorial, i am experimenting cubase for 60 days before i decide if get it or not... But there is one thing that is bugging me out, perhaps you can give me an insight about if i am doing anything wrong with the ins and outs... unlike other modern daws, audio in cubase also stops the playback for a couple miliseconds when i load or remove a plugin, i would say this would be normal in DAWs 20 years ago, i remember old FLstudio versions did the same, but not anymore, and cubase which i normally dont use, does this... I was never expecting a software like cubase to get the audio interrupted when loading a plugin, its something that i never expected from such high reputable daw that is industry standard, so i am hopping this is not a normal thing of cubase, and perhaps you know what i am doing wrong in the settings... thank you (and yes you are really cute!)
Hi! That’s “normal” in Cubase as far as I know. I think it automatically recalculates the delay compensation as you add a plugin, whereas other DAWs wait until you stop playback. Don’t know why they chose to design it that way though.
Whats the real play button to hear what you record? when I hit the start to hear, the long line just goes over everything but I dont hear sound,but if i hit the lay button on top and then bring it to the work area and hold it down with my left button on my mouse , I can hear it ...what can I do to change that? thank you,thank you ,thank you

I think that if you make an video with your basic vocal chain, detailing the order and config settings of the plugins , will be very successful on YT, cuz, your vocals aways sounds so cristal clear, well balanced, compressed and understandable, besides that your explanations are easy to learn and always direct to the point. Had this issue, and turned out to be an obvious solution: Turn off monitoring before trying to playback! Just thought I would share in case it helps anyone else.
Hard to say what could be wrong. Maybe check their website to see if you have the latest driver? Do you have sound when you’re just using your laptop speakers?
I hope you could help me... I have signal from my Nektar Panoramat T6 but the VSTi plugins arent giving any sound. While there is signal. When i push some notes on the keuboard, I can see the signa moving up and down on the play/record panel (blue signal, Cubase 13). when the VSTi is open I can click on the vurtual keyboard from that VSTi and then the sound is there. But when pressing on my notes on my Nektar keabord...there is no signal!!! 😢 Please helppppppppppppppp Yesterday it was just working fine. I have checked preferences>>edition> enable record on MIDI track is checked on HELP ME PLEASE? :'(
Hi! That sounds very frustrating indeed. Can you try this: close Cubase, hold Cmd+Shift+Opt (or Ctrl+Shift+Alt) and open Cubase, then choose 'disable program preferences'. This temporarily resets your preferences until you reopen Cubase the normal way. Sometimes this resolves weird issues like this.
Helpful video but didn't solve my issues. I've been forced to revert to Cubase 12, as I can't get any audio in or out with 13, tried every which way. Everything is ticked which should be, and I have a fairly simple set up. Fortunately 12 is able to open projects saved in 13, but it's frustrating having paid for the upgrade to not be able to use it.
Hmmm, that’s super frustrating indeed. Driver update for your audio interface maybe? Or check if the routing on your individual tracks isn’t removed for some reason? Can’t really think of anything else at the moment.

Not sure why it does that. Saving your configuration as a preset could save you some time, but you'd still have to go into the settings. If you name your preset 'default' it SHOULD take it as a default automatically, but that doesn't work for everyone it seems.
Nice well explained video. Modern rec programs all suck. After Cool Edit 2 they became overly complicated bug riddled horrors. You shouldn't need TH-cam videos to use basic inputs unless the progress is rubbish in the first place.
@@alicebyno it's insane. Pro Tools/ Cubase are awesome for mixing but for basic editing they are dreadful. That I have to edit on a 27 year old program because nothing current can do multitrack editing without a 12 step process is sad considering the advancement in technology and programming. The emphasis on PLUGINS has removed much of the functionality of editing as a noise gate and compressor hide most crud. Enough of my whinge. Have a glorious day and keep up the good work for us frustrated audio types 😁
@@zigzag8949 I have no clue what you are talking about I just jumped from Cubase 5 to 13 Pro and now use half the plugins than before due to things like the ‘Vocal Chain’ and editing is so much more streamlined and the GUI is better so really I am confused at the statement ALSO 20 something years old software probably has a rubbish audio engine and say this because playing my older projects on this latest software has literally improved the sound quality without me even doing anything, so yeah, my few cents on the topic
@@dubzcompany8183 was more ranting about the lack of modern editing control on a single track not using a generic edit option. I do use modern for mixing only as it does sound better be it sonically flat and squashed. Yes modern edit is streamlined but it gives limited options with preset parameters. Yes the modern programs all sound better due to plugins and mass compression but it removes ALL the dynamics. Someone whispering on a song should not have the same volume as a crash cymbal but tada! I edit audio and video on a daily basis. Video programs have advanced while audio has stagnated for decades. Audio Plugins have existed for nearly 30 years. A bit of new code here and there but no actual advancement. Same mics and same instrument. Video has gone from 720p to 4k. Music is still released at 44.1k/16bit to the public. Using a 96bit recording is great but it still ends up 16bit at the end.

Hi! Something I didn’t mention in the video is the orange monitor button that’s under every track name. That should be turned off during playback. Hard to tell what else it could be. Maybe temporarily delete your preferences (I explain how to do that in my video ‘Cubase stopped working’)
@@alicebyno Hey, thanks for getting back so quickly, had to delete the project, no idea what happened, but it stopped sounding altogether, luckily I was able to copy and paste the work into a new project but it was definitely touch and go for a minute. Before it happened, I was trying to set up a new output separate from my DI box and had these W-King Bluetooth speakers connected to give my ears a break from headphones, but it didn't seem to know they were there. When I swapped back to headphones, that's when I couldn't hear anything anymore.
@@Hari-Harmonies When you plug your headphones directly into your computer it shows an extra headphone output in the menu you see at 1:07 in this video. After your headphones have been unplugged you have to check the box in front of it. Maybe that could be it.
@@alicebyno thank you for the advice, I'm using a DI box, I had to get rid of the project altogether and copy the work onto another, seems to be fine now so must be something I did on that project in particular 🤷♂️
What audio drivers are you using for Cubase as well as the other players? Does it help when you check 'release driver when application is in background' in Studio > Studio setup > Audio system?
Can you try starting Cubase in safe mode (hold cmd/ctrl + shift + opt/alt while opening Cubase) and choose ‘disable program preferences’? This temporarily disables user preferences. Then open the editor again, and if it works properly you know that the problem is somewhere in your preferences. For now I don’t know which setting it could be.
I loaded a project added a new mic track and discovered no signal from the audio interface even though everything works fine in other projects. This older project won't accept signal inputs from my audio interface. The recorded tracks play fine but I am unable to add a new track and hear audio and no signor through the monitor either.
I had a similar problem once. In my case the issue was in the names of the ports in studio setup (you see them when you click on your interface). Somehow between projects the naming got changed which caused me to choose the wrong ports in audio connections.
@@alicebyno It's a weird glitch because I tested other tracks routed to channels 3 and 4 on the interface and the input signals worked. I decided to make a new project where everything worked and then imported the tracks from the older project and that resolved my issues with no sound signal inputs. Somehow things get lost in translation over time I guess.
ㅠ^ㅠ I can't solve my hearing problem. I can hear the sound in other platform, but not just in cubase. My ASIO Driver is 'Generic Low Latency ASIO Driver'. I did all the settings you told. But there's a problem. I can't find this 'Generic Low Latency ASIO Driver' in input ports. It only exists in output ports.

Hmm, kinda hard to figure out what’s going on without seeing it. Is it saving backups (.bak files)? Do you see the ‘save as’ window?

Iv done everything yet still no sound , how do I get to hear the sound in my headphones , im using EVO4 and its been a nightmare.

I’ve actually been experiencing more glitches since the latest version as well. Hopefully it’s not going downhill from here.

When cubase is open, other players do not work. Do you have a solution, please?

My problem in cubase 13 is when i open window editor, the track being solo, its not like this in cubase 12
Does it keep doing that after you click/disable the S button, close the editor and reopen it?

@@alicebyno technology isn't perfect so sometimes a glitch cannot be fixed , you have to replace or refresh the system or project like a reboot
How to connect Cubase to bluetooth headphones
In Studio > Studio Setup I would select built-in audio as driver. And then in your computer’s audio/sound settings choose your headphones as output.
Watching this video for bout the 6th time doing all the checks! Not sure why I dont hear anything on my playback..
It could be the orange speaker button that’s under the track names. That’s for monitoring. It should be off during playback.

Does your audio interface have dedicated ASIO drivers? If so, you’ll be better off installing those.
