    Both sound awesome but I like more the AA rock crash.

      It's a great classic sounding rock type crash. I try not to use it much as I seem to break the aa rock crashes fast for some reason.

    Very nice review
    I personally use only Sabian AA , AAX or HHX I find they marry nicely matched up together.
    My hats have Rivets in the bottom hat cymbal which creates massive sizzle effect the volume is also much louder with rivets .
    Good video.

      Doubt you could even get Stagg SH set at that price.

    I've used the 18" Xplosion along with the 18" / 19" / 20" AAX Metals and they compliment each other well. Used the metals on the RHS of the kit and they are awesome. Also used the 19" Xplosions and they also work well on the RHS of the kit. My first full setup back in the late 90's was a 17" Rock crash with a 19" & 18" AAX Metals on the kit. I picked up the rock crash purely because Vinnie Paul used them! Met Vinnie Paul back on the Vulgar Tour in Notts as well - RIP Vinnie.

      Yes, the passing of V.P was a huge hit for me. Hands down my biggest drum hero. When I heard vulgar display of power when it came out the drumming blew my mind.
      A one of a kind drummer.
      The rock crashes are awesome but nowadays they seem to crack around the bell pretty quickly for me. I've had to stop using them, which is a shame. I've brought that up with Sabian, as they never used to break so easily.
      The xplosion and metals are made for each other. Essential if your a sabian player in the heavier end of the market.

    Great demo, unsure on the explosion but now clarified with a darker sound, sounds great. Aa good but a bit to high pitch for me maybe better for more pop style music. Good job.

    I play a lot of punk rock/rock (mainly play green day and blink-182), with that in mind, what would be the best pairing with the AAX 18'' x-plosion in your opinion?

    • @heavydrumsinc4816
      @heavydrumsinc4816  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good looking question! Sounds obvious, but for that situation.......another xplosion crash, 17" or 19". Maybe an hhx xplosion or an evolution crash. I used a 19" aax metal crash with my explosion. But that maybe tooooo loud etc for whst you need?

      @@heavydrumsinc4816 thanks for the quick response! :) I was kind of thinking the 16" version of the aax Xplosion but do you think the 17/19 version of it would be better? Also, If you had to chose one over the other would you go with the darker hhx to compliment my current one or the 16/17/19 aax?

    • @heavydrumsinc4816
      @heavydrumsinc4816  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@scottstephens2995 for me i prefer the aax. The 16" would totally work too. If it's faster punk stuff def 16" or 17". Personally I'd choose a 17" with the 18". I like pitching relatively close.

    What stands are you using with the cymbals? I can see they are Pearls. I've recently started to use the Pearl Boom stands with the counterweight and I find that the cymbals sound slightly better and are more controlled when crash riding them. Just wondering if you've used them at all?

    • @heavydrumsinc4816
      @heavydrumsinc4816  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes these are Pearl advanced stands. With counter weight. I couldn't feature using stands without counterweights now. And yes, I definitely think cymbals sound slightly better on them. It's like the counterweight provides more for the sound to travel through. Plus its stable as can be.
      Thanks for watching buddy!

    • @innercry
      @innercry 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@heavydrumsinc4816 I've added a few of these stands to the collection for gigging and to the rack for all crashes and the ride. I bought these mainly for positioning until I found that they helped the cymbals perform better. Don't appear to be able to get the rack version anymore which is a shame as I was planning to swap out for china's as well.

    I've noticed that the AAX Xplosion is med thin (or extra thin if it's a fast one). Are they still viable for metal playing, or should I look into other ones?

    • @heavydrumsinc4816
      @heavydrumsinc4816  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes don't hesitate. They are "medium thin" by sabians rating but they are pretty robust. AA rocks are medium heavy and they don't last as well as the explosion by a long way. And that was in my metal playing. There's a theory that thinner cymbals flex better than heavy cymbals so carry the forceful hits better for longer.
